Right on!
I suggest to anyone who hasn’t used Ubroadcast before to start getting familiar with it at least 30 minutes before the show…I’m sure most are smarter than me, but I still took at least that long just to find where the chat room was.
It looks like MHR will have a better chance at expanding on this platform, but there are many features that have yet to be added which will be added in the future.

I do have one question for Jack.
Ask him if he is looking forward to learning from two of the NFL’s best CB’s and also if he is looking forward to one day taking over the starting position. ;)
I like the tough, awkward questions.

Why...
would I ask a rookie DB about playing with Champ Bailey??? That’s just D-U-M-B!

For Jack
Feel free to shorten the questions.
“Mr. Williams, first, congratulations on coming on board the Broncos organization. You are surrounded by quality coaches and players and Denver is a great city. I’m sure you’ll love it here!
Some fans (myself included), see a team that has two of the best corners in the league in Champ and Bly, as well as excellent CBs in depth who could start for most other teams in Paymah and Foxworth. I also saw a lot of needs I wanted to see addressed in the draft, and when your name was called I was surprised because CB was the furthest thing from my mind. The other thing I was concerned about was reading on a couple of sites that your strengths and weaknesses might make you appropriate for a zone oriented team.
Shanahan picked you, and I trust Shanahan. So can you tell me:
1) Do you think there was a specific need on the team that you were brought in for, or do you think you were the best available player on the board, and
2) Do you think you will be a good fit in man coverage, and where do you see yourself contributing?
Best of luck to you! We’re pulling for all of our rookies to have a great and injury free season, and to help the team shine. Thanks for giving us some of your valuable time!

Nah.
I’ve been really down on the guy (Williams) with my opinions, but he’s a Bronco and I’m wishing him the best. Besides, I don’t want him to beat me up, so I really sugar coated my questions. : )
Besides, the kid is no idiot. I imagine his answers would be:
Q – Is he is looking forward to one day taking over the starting position?
A – “Well, no one can repace Champ or Bly. They’re the best and I really look forward to learning all they can. If the day comes that one of those men hands the keys to the car over to me I’ll try to fill their shoes the best that I can.”
Q -ask him if he has ever worn a dress.
A – “No sir. Did one of your people really ask that lame question?”
Ok, Zap. You got me there. It was just a little lame. : )
(Now I’m cracking myself up!)

Oh Boy!! Hoosierteacher actually hits on an interesting point here.........
He states…..
“Some fans (myself included), see a team that has two of the best corners in the league in Champ and Bly, as well as excellent CBs in depth who could start for most other teams in Paymah and Foxworth.”
I have no doubt that the Donkeys do in fact have a good set of corners, but the best in the league? As a member of the Raider Nation I beg to differ. Nnamdi Asomugha, and DeAngelo Hall are very young and entering the prime of their careers at ages 26 and 24 respectively. Champ and Bly are 29 and 30, and while still very good corners, are approaching the ‘veteran’ stages of their careers where there physical skills will begin to diminish. There is that chance that they could be lucky, and have the longevity of a Darrel Green, but that chance is slim.
Nnamdi is really the best man corner in the league. Teams only threw the ball in his direction 32 times last season, (I could not find the # completed, but its lower than 10 according to an article on Bleacher Report) and thats playing almost 100% man coverage against other teams #1 receiver. Hall, a good #1 in his own right, will get to play against the other teams #2, and he will get to play nearly 100% man coverages, where he flourishes.
The Corner position in Oakland is like no other in the NFL! The Raiders demand the finest level of play from their corners, and that means no zone help. It is the definition of an island, the CBs own little world where he must dominate of be dominated. That is why many of the best CBs and DBs in NFL history come from the Raiders. The best want to come to Oakland to see if they can be great. The cream rises to the top in Oakland, and if you don’t work out, even if you would be starting #1 or #2 elsewhere (Fabian Washington), then you are gone.
Its going to be very interesting to see which duo comes out on top, but my money is on the newly united Hall and Aso.
The Raiders also seem to have the upper hand at the S position. Gibril Wilson’s addition at SS allows Huff to move to his natural position at FS, and bolsters our run defense as Gibril has more tackles than any safety since entering the league. Again, these two are very young and entering the prime of their careers. Lynch is getting old, and beyond this its a question mark.
Not only will the Raider have the better CB tandem, but they will have a better all around Defensive Backfield as well.
Then you have to consider the Raiders LBs. Kirk Morrison and Thomas Howard are two of the best LBs in coverage in the NFL as represented by their ridiculous INT #s last season. When you put all this together, it spells trouble for opposing QBs next year, and it will all begin with a spanking of the Donkeys on Monday Night Football.
Tick Tock Tick Tock!! The season is fast approaching…..

2007: 4-12, 2006:2-14, 2005:4-12, 2004:5-11 (good year!), 2003:4-12.
I would imagine there would eventually be some talent there picking in the top 5 every year for half a decade!
Denver won more games in a rebuilding year last year than the Raiderettes won the last 2 years.

I don't know
I think I’ll be a realist and be willing to give the argument to him for the time being…AT LEAST from the secondary standpoint. The cornerback issue is certainly debatable, and the key focus is probably the D-Hall vs. D-Bly debate. The Raiders’ stats in coverage and the secondary the past few years don’t lie. Now, if they had a solid QB, we’d have a different situation on our hands. Oakland did beat Denver last season, and while I think they should improve this season, I don’t know if I’d go as far as saying the Raiders have that much of an advantage…look at the two offenses.
Denver has Cutler, while Oakland has…some “lazy” dude from LSU. Denver’s also got much more depth at the wide receiver position (Marshall, Jackson, Two possible slot threats – Royal and Stokely, and receivers that used to start/ play slot that might not even make the team – Colbert and Parker). The Raiders did bring in Javon Walker, but they also lost Porter, so Curry’s still the number two.
Also, BOTH teams had a horrendous time stopping the run last season and had a tough time with their push on the front lines. I’ll have to see how things play out in the pre-season before I award any clear cut advantage to any team on the basis of anything other than that I’m a Denver fan.

Phantom...
“Oakland (sic) did beat Denver last season”
oakland split the record with Denver, winning one game and losing one. One needs to then look at the rest of the season record for the tie break. Denver’s record was higher.
And also, please don’t use the pre-season as an indicator. Most teams aren’t trying to win these games. They are used to test out personnel to see who mkes the team and who starts.
Use records as indicators. If oakland finishes behind Denver in the league standings as they have for nearly a quarter of a decade, then you’ll once again know who the better team is.

I was referring to
using it as an indicator in terms of my feelings about each team THIS SEASON. I meant that before I was going to make a “prediction” or assumption about which team was better I wanted to check on the progress of these two teams during the off-season and follow the news around the teams in the pre-season as well.
Obviously, records will decide who the better team is after the fact, but I was simply referring to who I like going INTO next season PRIOR to next season. I don’t put any stock in the pre-season myself, but I was referring to the injuries that could happen and the player developments. Hope that clarifies it. I don’t want to use last season’s record as the best and only indicator (although it’s all we have) prior to the season, because both teams have made a great deal of additions. I was only speaking about predicting and not “knowing” who the better team is going in.

Phantom........
Three questions…....
1. Why do you think J Money is lazy? I ask this in all seriousness, because I can only think of two reasons that would give you that impression. First would be the early off-season report that J Money was 3 bills. This was quickly refuted as nonsense as J Money is in the best shape of his career, Kiffs words, and was working out at the Alameda Facility all off season. The second possibility is much more devious in nature, and is associated with racist stereotypes. Specifically, that J Money is African American, from the South, and a “Big Boi” with a souther drawl. I hope that your reasoning is not based in the second possibility as that would be sad. Racist stereotypes should never be used to judge a mans work ethic. You see, many outside of Colorado believe in the stereotype that most Denver fans are hicks, or red necks. I have been to Colorado (love the skiing by the way, Breckenridge is awesome!) and don;t believe this is the case, but comments like yours about J Money being lazy can be construed in that fashion. So again, I hope your comments are rooted in the first possibility, as that would be a simple mistake based in Raider rumor, which would be understandable.
2. Does Denver really have more depth at WR? If Javon stays healthy, then I would call it a draw at this point, with the possibility for the Raiders to fall off, or overtake Denver in this category. If Javon becomes injured, then the argument would have to go in the favor of Denver, however if he stays healthy, with the addition of Carter as a 3rd WR, and the eventual emergence of Run DMC playing some WR, the Raiders have a potentially awesome WR core with great depth.
3. Both teams did have trouble sopping the run, there can be no doubt, but the Raiders O-Line was vastly improved. I don;t know which side of the ball you were referring to when you stated “Both teams [...] had a tough time with their push on the front lines”, but if referring to the Raiders O_line I would have to argue otherwise. The Raiders cut their sacks in half last season, and were 6th in the league in rushing. For the first time in 5 seasons the Raiders will have a second year under one O-Line coach, Tom Cable (one of the best in the game and team MVP for 2007), and are bound to get even better this season. Add Run DMC into the mix and it could be a huge rushing year for the Raiders.
These are serious questions, so I hope you, or others, don;t complain that I am a Troll, as I am just responding to your comments. Sometimes my statements may be harsh or from a Raider perspective, but that should only inspire more conversation.

Watch your step.

Weight has been the issue when discussing your QB. Bringing up an issue that no one at this site brought up, and then playing defense against it is called using a “straw man argument”. I advice you to avoid injecting race into any comments at this site. Additionaly, most of the members of this site are not living in (or even from) Colorado, so the equaly reprehensible comments about white “hicks and red necks” is also out of bounds.
If you don’t want complaints that you are a troll, don’t accuse any member of this site of racism again unless you are prepared to back it up.

Wow!!
This was a simple question, and at no time did I accuse Phantom of Racism. I asked a simple question, and he cleared it up for me below. Why can;t people have an honest, open conversation. You also cut my quote off at the perfect point to misconstrue my statement, as I continue to state that I like Colorado and that the people are not like this. Its a stereotype, and false.
As far as J Money is concerned, the same is true. I have herd small minded individuals criticize him for stereotypical racist reasons. Not on this site, but I have still herd it. Phantom was clear in pointing out his reasons for his statement, and it was the first possibility that I stated, thus no harm as it is a common misunderstanding based in false Raider rumors. Whats New?
I certainly do not see the reason for the warning, as I did not accuse anyone of racism, I simply asked a question, and it has been answered thoughtfully below. I will always speak my mind, and I do not believe I have broken any rules with my comment.

Try this on for size: Don’t spend a paragraph accusing someone of being racist, and then add a cute little disclaimer so that you can disregard the entire rant.
Don’t play innocent. Phantom may not be aware that you were previously banned by this site for this kind of behavior some months ago. Now you’ve changed your identity and come back without permission. During your most recent log-in you were asked to comply with the site’s standards before continuing. This is awfuly generous on our parts. I suggest you follow the lead of other guests (including many fine, trash talking raiders fans) and follow the rules of the house you are in. Hilarious!
I did not change my identity. I have always been OakFoSho. When the upgrade happened this blog, S&BP, Golden State of Mind, and Athletics Nation all showed up in my blog list. I was already a member of the other SB Nation blogs long before I came back here recently, so when I showed up it recognized me. If this is the same account I don’t know, as I don’t remember if this site was part of SB Nation before the upgrade, but in no way did I return under a changed identity. Thats just hilarious. I have not been here for months prior to a few days ago, and again, when I showed up it just recognized me.
Again, I did not accuse Phantom of being a racist. I ask him a question, he had no problem with it, and answered in in a thoughtful manner clearing up any misunderstanding. Four comments below this one, you accuse me of needing a lesson in reading comprehension. It appears you need to practice what you preach.

You are aware you were banned and you still chose to post here several months later without contact the site administrator first. Outside of your foolish comments against one of our members (and a couple of dishonest defenses of same) you seem to have grown up a bit in some of your comments elsewhere on the site.
If you want to enjoy this site, I encourage you to stop a losing argument about your history with MHR and continue making an effort at trying to trash talk like the grown up raider fans here do. It’s a fine line that other raider fans know how to walk with respect.

I have always signed my comments OakFoSho......
on every blog I have ever visited. Again, when I came back to this site, I was automatically recognized as OakFoSho, as that was, and is my name on other SB Nation Blogs. Thus, I was not given the chance to sign in as Sneaky275, because I was already a member of three other SB Nation blogs. There was no reason to go back to an old handle.
Also, until you told me a couple days ago, I was unaware that I had been banned before. I left a final comment ending previous discussions, and then I left, and did not return (as I stated in that comment I would do). Only recently did I return. You can go back and check the last comment I posted as Sneaky275, and you will see this is true.
I have never tried to hide my identity or get around any bans, cause I could care less. If someone wants to ban me, they will, but I have given no reason for such action. You, in fact have been far more disrespectful than I with your comments about my supposed age. Here a tip buddy, and a good life lesson….
Respect is earned! You have to give respect to get respect.
I would think as a coach you would know this. You see, Phantom has earned my respect, as he can have an honest and open discussion without sinking to the level many of your comments delve to, and I appreciate him for that. If you chose to view this conversation in terms of winning and losing, thats your preference, but thats also a hard way to live life. Good luck with that, older man…..ROFL.
I’m 25 by the way, and just finished my MBA thesis a week ago, and will graduate on Sunday, (Happy Happy Joy Joy!!) so the age comments are hilarious. Why not try and keep the discussion on the facts, rather than sinking into ridiculous, baseless personal attack. Thanks buddy….

Thanks for the admission...
...even if it has to be dressed in paragraphs of excuses. We both know that you were notified (even Saint at S&BP was consulted on the decision). The only reason you are back is because of the switch to 2.0.
But let’s not bore everyone here. You and I are both aware of what happened, and your short memory is not a bannable offense at any rate. If you weren’t aware of being banned (and we both know better), you would have shown your true colors presently by not abiding by the ban, as well as failing to contact the chief editor of the site to verify his ban and properly ask permission to return. I recall that you even dared our staff to ban you, and you wrote that no technlogy could keep you off our site. Nice talk. Do you still stand by those remarks? That’s not a rhetorical question. It’s also not a statement (on your part) made by a mature mind. It is why your inexperience and relative immaturity combined probably got you banned in the first place.
Now that that’s out of the way, move on with any football related remarks you would like to make. I won’t hold your youth and inexperience against you. You don’t accuse our members of racism, lying (which finally got you banned), and you don’t make physical threats then play it off as joking (our members didn’t agree with your sense of humor, and took your comments seriously). If you think the rules are one sided, that’s ok. They’re not rules written to please you, they’re here to keep our site clean. If you don’t like the rules, you are welcome to take yourself to a site that believes in your kind of behavior. Our members have worked hard to build this site, and it is our house. If you are going to pee on the carpet, do it at your own team’s site.
You are still here at the grace of our chief editor, and a few of us have already discussed the thin ice you are on. It may surprise you to know it, but I was the only staff member who didn’t vote for your banning (and I sent my vote to the site editor before I was notified of others thoughts/votes). Don’t blow it. Move on to football. I would really enjoy having you as a thoughtful representative of your team (like so many others from other sites). Or stay here and argue. It will go a long way towards demonstrating if you’ve learned anything about being a guest.

Saint never talked to me......
I know the reality of my own actions, and I don’t need someone to tell me the reasons I do anything. I had no clue I was banned. Again, I left a final comment and left, only returning recently. I could care less if you believe this, cause I’m not trying to ‘win’ the discussion like you are obsessed with doing. It’s really rather funny. Sad, but funny.
All anyone has to do to avoid a ban is use a different e-mail, and a new IP. It’s really quite simple actually. I have not done this here, as it was automatically done for me when I recently returned, as I was already a member of other SB Nation blogs. Thus, an admission? Naw, just the reality as I have repeatedly stated.
Again, I could care less what you think of me, and my age is well represented in my comments. It is your choice to sink to ever lower levels with your comments. Its also not my fault if you cant take a joke or occasional sarcasm, or if you misinterpret a simple question like the one I asked Phantom. Rather that is your problem, good luck with that, cause I will not change.
Again, if someone wants to ban me they will, but I have not done anything worthy of such an action. Please don’t use the threat of banning me to try and scare me away from a simple debate. If you don’t want this conversation to go further then don’t respond, because I cannot stand by while someone attacks me personally and threatens me with sanctions. I was not the one to delve into topics away from football, you were. Again, someone needs to practice what they preach.

Hey man, I feel where you're coming from
This discussion between teams is always great.
First of all, I am certainly not one to stereotype. I have a few African American friends myself and I also happen to love other African American (Young) QBs like Troy Smith. I was basing my statement on all the “rumors” about the weight. A lot of people with their own shows have called Jamarcus lazy in the past, but that doesn’t necessarily mean its true. A while ago he did come in with a large weight, but hopefully for you guys he’s slimmed down a bit. I have some friends that are Raiders fans and I really like Nnamdi at corner, so I’m not one to completely blast other teams just for the sake of doing so. My comment was on an issue of weight and not anywhere in the vicinity of race at all. Heck, I’m lazy myself.
Second of all, when I was referring to depth, I was talking about who the Broncos brought in this off-season (Keary Colbert has played number two in Carolina and Samie Parker has played the slot in KC). Both of those guys are expected to compete for FOURTH and FIFTH spots or maybe even make the team at all. Now Oakland has good wide receivers, yes, but I was just feeling that the Broncos had more of them right now. Think of Oakland’s crowded RB depth chart (at least while Rhodes was there), that’s somewhat similar to what Denver has from a WR standpoint.
Finally, when I was talking about the LINES, I wasn’t talking about the O-Lines at all. I believe both the Raiders and the Broncos were in the bottom five in the NFL at stopping the run last season, and you admitted that. It would’ve been silly for me to rip the Oakland O-Line that’s starting to improve. The passing game is where they’re going to have to make some real strides this season. The Broncos have a lot of youth coming in on that offensive line, so I didn’t necessarily want to dive into an argument there…I was just making a statement about the D-Lines and their similarities. Hopefully that cleared it up.
Again, I respect the fact that you can have some informed discussion with opposing fans on forums. Also, I hope I cleared up any misconceptions you may have had previously while reading my post. I stay away from stereotyping, particularly racial stereotyping, and was only referring to the weight issues. When I saw little Troy Smith and Jamarcus standing next to each other while doing an interview at the BCS National Championship this year, I had to wonder a little. You’re certainly not a troll, and I hope you understand where I was coming from when I posted and that I further clarified my thoughts a bit. Thanks again. Seriously, J-Money has more talent than I ever could throwing the football, but I just think the Raiders need to be just a little bit more sure at the QB position before I give them the edge of a Cutler lead Broncos’ team (Cutler’s shown more maturity at the position, and that could also be because Jamarcus really hasn’t seen much time under center in Oakland so hasn’t had time to build up that experience just yet).
Thanks.
by phantom818 on May 6, 2008 8:36 PM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
It is as I expected.......
The rumors regarding J Moneys weight are greatly exaggerated, as he has been working hard all off season, never approached 290 let alone 300, and is supposedly in the best shape of his career.
I can see your argument regarding WRs. I am excited about the Raiders WR core because finally Javon, Carter, and Run DMC (eventually) will provide that down the field big play ability that J Money’s cannon for an arm requires, and that Porter never provided. He was good, but not a #1.
I an also see where you are coming from as far as the D-Lines are concerned. The Raiders are counting on Kelly to live up to the his potential at the 3 tech DT, and Sands to return to form. Burgess will be Burgess, and the RE, whomever that may be, will benefit as a result. Stopping the run has been an issue, but with the corners the Raiders no posses, Gibril will be in the box all season long to help alleviate that problem.
Cutler has proven his worth, and I certainly like him more than the loud mouth in SD. You have to give Cutler the nod at this point, but in a year or two, I believe J Money will have developed into a monster. I mean, how do you tackle him? He is bigger than most DE in todays league. Its going to be fun to watch. I don;t think there has been anyone with his skill set, or his size in my lifetime, or ever at the QB position. Hopefully it will work out.
Thank you for your response, and for clearing up my questions. I am highly defensive about my teams QB cause he takes a lot of pointless heat, and he has yet to really start his career as the Raiders full time QB.

Very True.
The guy has hardly played a decent number of snaps! :)
We shall see what he is made of this coming season I guess.

Negative!!
We will see on Opening Night!!! Monday Night on National TV BABY!! We won’t need the whole season, just 60 minutes of MNF to see what the kid is really made of. Win or lose, J Money will show his heart and his character, or he will fold. I highly doubt the second will happen. Now, he may make rookie mistakes, thats a given, but we will get to see who he really is character wise non the less, and all it will take is Monday Night vs. the Donkeys!
I cant wait! Go Raiders!

Reading comprehension my friend.
I wrote that Denver has two of the best corners in the League. Does that exclude the raiders? Of course not. Going through my archives you will find that I’ve written good things about both oakland corners. I would certainly say that oakland also has two of the best corners in the League. Every comment that compliments my team (especially on my team’s site) isn’t somehow an attack on your team. There is a major difference between “two of the best” and “the two best”.
If you want to argue particulars, Champ and Lynch are frequent pro-bowlers and both are locks for the Hall of Fame. I agree that Lynch is slowing, and will likely be in the box for run support. I also agree that the Gibril pick-up was a good one for oak (I was hoping DEN would try to sign him). On the other hand, Hamza did a great job when he stepped in last year, and Denver signed one of SD’s recent starting safeties as well. Either way, Denver had a rare losing season last year (only the second in Shanahan’s career with Denver), so I hope our elite defensive backs can contribute this year. oakland (as is normaly the case) starts well behind Denver, and has much more room for improvement.
Both defensive backfields should be pretty fierce.

Regardless....
Its a good argument, and a conversation that is worth having, especially concidering the two teams will go at in in week one.

Hall is not an elite CB
I would not have risked all that money for the mouth that is Hall. Steve Smith loved playimng against, errr I mean beating Hall everytime they played. But he will fit in with Oakland. I cant wait to see how many games he costs the Raiders this year. For the record I would take Foxworth, Paymah, or anybody before I would want that cancer Hall on my team. Just remember a tiger cant change his stripes

Hall IS elite, much like Walker IS elite. :)

To be fair...
...and I know this is controversial and open to disagreement between sharp fans, I would consider Hall to be elite. He has all of the skill traits required to be a true cover corner, and his natural talents are great. He has some issues (so he’ll fit in oak), and his natural talent hasn’t fully matured into where he can end up in terms of execution. But even at the expense of passing on a swipe at the raiders, I think Hall is a solid pick-up. He has the ability to be much better than he is.
We’ll see if oakland can afford to keep him if the cap cuts start rolling in in a couple of years. We’ll also see if he develops, or gets ruined by negative influences.

I was joking. ;)
I envy Hall’s skills, but I don’t envy his mouth. In that I compared him to Walker.

Why did the Broncos have to draft all the guys I liked?
Williams was another of my favorites.
I just mention Lichtensteiger here too so I don’t have to whine in the next story that mentions him.

Questions
Feel free to edit as necessary, Guru:
1. It has been well-documented that the Broncos have had some issues in the return game. Are you looking forward to competing for a spot returning kick-offs?
2. At the NFL level, much is made regarding a CB’s physical gifts (height and wingspan), and in my uneducated opinion, it seems to be the biggest difference between CBs selected in the first round and CBs selected later, while leaping ability, timing, and toughness can be overlooked in favor of taller players. In your opinion, are these three things more important than height and reach in one-on-one coverage situations?
3. In your opinion, what is the biggest difference between coverage in the college game and in the NFL?
4. What’s your take on the Broncos organization as a whole? Have you ever visited Colorado before?
5. What kinds of activities do you like to pursue when you’re not on the football field?
6. What did you major in at Kent State? What was your favorite class? Do you have goals and/or dreams about a life after football yet, or is it a little too soon to think about it?

WOW!
I’m clearly no raiders fan River, but that is an incredible pic you’ve got there. That’s one to be proud of for sure!
I also see that JAX went ahead with Groves. I thought another team would jump you guys for him for the value he has at OLB, but you guys got him for a DE and should have a great pass rush going on down there. Please do what you can to slow down or stop INDY. (Heads up – Rhodes just signed back to INDY at RB).
Thanks also for the very kind words over at Big Cat Country. Please drop me a line if I can help in any way in the future.
