Can Selvin Young become "The Man" in Denver?
The following quote from Selvin Young is very telling to me. In spite of his somewhat cocky remarks about 2000 yards, he was quite obviously motivated by Mike Shanahan's challenge. Young seems determined to prove people wrong about him, HT included ;), and he wants to be "The Man". The most glaring question mark about Young is whether he can handle the full load. The answer to this question can only come during the season...as it stands now, Selvin Young IS the starter.
"It's a whole different mind-set when you're running No. 1 and getting those reps. I don't want to be a guy who goes in, then has to come out a couple of plays. I'm pretty sure a bunch of people are saying I can only carry the ball 10 or 15 times a game. I don't feel that way at all. I'm doing everything necessary to reach my goals. Why not go for things you believe in?"

lol hey
what a coincidence…I posted the same link to the same article and the same quote
btw how do you feel on the subject? Are you comfortable with him being the starter? I mean, with the quote I posted from that article, he was talking about being “a beast.”
What do you think? I know Guru’s given the guy tough love, but hey, what’s so bad about that? Prove it to me baby!

I just realzed that, I posted a comment about it in your fanshot. lol
I think he has to prove it. If he is starting in Oakland on the first game then it is obvious that Shanny thinks he earned the job. I think Young’s taking Shanny’s challenge to heart speaks volumes to the guys heart. I would love for him to be a “beast”, but I won’t be calling him that until he makes it through a full season and wows us with his “skill”. lol
I sure hope he is speaking prophetically though!

I know you love the guy. Like I said once before somewhere, I don’t think HT is referring to lack of ability on Selvin’s part, but TYPE of ability. Selvin is a guy who will come in a and bust you up for 20-50yrds when a power back like Henry or Pittman has made the defense close in on the middle. Again I like the guy and think he COULD do the job, i just dont think that is his style.

Well he wants to prove everyone wrong and I see no problem with letting him try...
He seems like a pretty determined dude, let’s see how his body holds up over an entire season.

That would be the key element there
i am all for going with him as a #1 but my optimism is outweighed by a few things so I have a wait and see but dont be surprised one way or the other attitude!

Agreed Jon.
I also think that we have programmed players to say, “Get me off the bench”, and “Put me in” and “I’m an everydown guy”. Coaches love this attitude, and parents push kids to say it. But any coach that has dealt with the attitude during a game gets pretty annoyed pretty quick. It’s not about “everydown” but about what combination of players, and what combination over the course of the game keeps the other side reeling and guessing and keeps your side rested, with multiple players gaining skills.

Hey on a different note, what would you think as a D Cord. if you saw a 2 TE 3RB set? We have people to do it this year Im wondering how effective it would be?

I don't know if he is the man...
...but I like his attitude and hope he can back it up.
