BREAKING NEWS: Javon Walker Hospitalized

Not that I have anything other than what the mainstream news is reporting, but it appears Javon Walker has been hospitalized with a broken orbital bone after being found unconscious on the street at 7:30 this morning. Police said he sustained significant injuries and was the apparent victim of a robbery.

Reports have him at various clubs spraying people with Dom Perignon until around 6:30am. Nobody deserves this... no matter how dubious their behavior.

I am sure there are more details to come, but this sounds serious. I am guessing we don't see much of Javon in the AFC West this year.

Well said...

Nobody does deserve this. Javon has had a rough couple of years and my heart goes out to him.

I hope he is okay!

Our prayers go out for him.

He’s been in the wrong place at the wrong time tragically twice. I hope instead of this costing his life, he will realize again how fragile life is, and become a person that makes a positive difference in many lives.

screw the clown

was he “making it rain with champagne?” pathetic, i can’t back this guy anymore, he is lost. another talent wasted on ego. this guy is becoming a joke, and he’s now on the right team for it

foolish thing to do, considering that spraying people with champayne is what caused the gang bangers to

go after dwill’s limo…

Yeah

A tragic bookend…

As I wrote, though, no matter how ludicrous the behavior, nobody deserves to be left for dead on the side of the road…

by jonahsilas on Jun 16, 2008 10:52 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

It may just be me...

...but nobody invites being left unconscience with a broken orbital on the side of a street. If you get sprayed with champaign you get up and walk away, or call the authorities. If you go tactical on someone you don’t leave them half dead on the street, you call an ambulance.

Whether Javon was being a jerk or not, we should keep a couple of things in mind. Reports are calling this a probable robbery, which means someone probably took his wallet. Also, he was abandoned in the shape he was in, so that’s much more serious than just a “fight”. He was attacked.

Let’s all remember that we suffered senseless violence ourselves, and we should join the Oakland fans in hoping for Javon’s recovery and swift justice against the perp(s).

Right HT............

I hope he is OK and as I said in the fanshot comments, I will be praying for him. That being said, if partying is how you deal with things and partying and late nights are a common behavior in your life, these things tend to happen. It is a lifestyle that invites trouble, I just hope that after twice being put in near death situations helps him to realize he needs to make better decisions about living life and how he does it. Your right though, nobody deserves to be left for dead and I hope the lowlifes responsible are punished.

The player who thinks he can and the player who knows he can are two different players, which one are you???

Invite might be the wrong word

But when reports say you were throwing $15K of champagne around at 6:30am, nothing good can come of it. He gets no blame in my book, but perhaps a modicum of responsibility (to keep himself out of these

Is that how I would respond, personally, to someone spraying champagne on me? No – but I also am not the type that is hanging around LV clubs at 6:30am… And definitely the people who do find this to be acceptable behavior belong behind bars.

I do hope Javon comes out of this okay. As I have said, nobody deserves this, even if they send an engraved invitation.

by jonahsilas on Jun 17, 2008 10:18 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I see you point a little better now, and you're right.

I don’t understand why these athletes go to these parties at ridiculous hours and mess with all of the alcohol. It certainly is risky behavior.

Well, I guess maybe I do understand. Take a young man, add more money that he’s been brought up to appreciate or understant, add in some good looking women and some drinking (which are two things we learn to like, but aren’t always taught how to deal with in moderation), and add a pinch of youthful “immortality”, and you’ve got the potential for trouble.

Maybe invited would be the right way to put it, as long as we don’t mean “asked for it”. It’s a subtle difference, and I see (and agree with) what you mean.

No.......

I never meant he was asking for it. I am a former partyer myself and it just seems that trouble comes with the lifestyle. It took me several years to learn that. Thank God I did or I’d prolly be dead by now. The thing is when you do these things the people you are around tend to be the less savory lot and trouble is more likely to find you. I’ve lived it first hand, so it saddens me to see these young athletes get into the habit of it because it usually takes drastic circumstances to get them to realize how dangerous it can be. I wouldn’t wish what happened to Javon on anyone and absolutely did not mean to imply that he asked for it in any way.

This is one of those situations that goes way beyond football rivalries. May God be with him. May he recover quickly and fully and may justice be served.

maybe

it wasn’t B-marsh that started that incident in the first place. I mean walker was right next to D-Will in the limo. Maybe they were targeting Walker instead of D-Will.

I mean the creep wore D-Will’s blood soaked shirt all day long and even posed in it. What kind of creep does that?

Michael Fabiano really knows nothing about football outside of regression analysis and stat extrapolation. If it doesn’t have to do with fantasy football, his opinion is worthless.

by kwool79 on Jun 17, 2008 9:15 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Maybe not.

It doesn’t matter who started it. The real bad guy isn’t Walker, Marsh, DWill, or anyone except for the dirty piece of trash that decided to use a gun. I blame the shooter, no matter what else happened that night. Let’s keep the hate focused on the killer(s).

Jackie Kennedy wore her bloodspattered dress for a full day and evening when her husband (President Kennedy) was assasinated. It wasn’t disrespect, it was shock. Walker took the killing hard in my opinion. Let’s not blame the folks getting shot at.

I hope he recovers fully

and that the thug(s) who did this pay in full. I want to see us beat him on the field, not see him beaten up and left for dead in an alley. I’d like to see the scum that attacked Javon, and the scum that killed D-Will, kept off the streets permanently.

What's he doing in Vegas?

Keep a low profile Javon. Good grief. Can’t you wait till after your career is over to live it up in Vegas? Seriously, you make millions. Brings the girls, drinks, friends etc to your crib and safeguard yourself from these kinds of mishaps. Have fun, just take the necessary precautions.

I was looking forward to him getting some on the field not on the street.

Myself, I would have made a lifestyle change after the limo tragedy.

Glad Shanny cut him

Sorry folks but I have no sympathy. I believe there is a lot more here than what is being reported as a simple robbery. He is responsible for his actions, and his actions are what has him in this predicament.

He was at the “Tryst” nightclub at Wynns Hotel. The same place he was seen when the rest of the Broncos were at D.Wills funeral.

I don’t believe he was just walking along. Somebody picked him up, beat him up and dumped him there. He was found half way between the two clubs that he was seen at, about a mile from each one. True that I would prefer to see him beat up on the field, but I have no sympathy.

What a shame

My heart hurts for those who love him. Bad decisions hurt more than just himself. Too bad. Thoughts and prayer to the Walker family. I too believe there is more to come on this story. But afterall, if you believe in God, he is still our brother. Wayward or not. Nobody deserves this.

Wouldnt you

Not put yourself in that position? I mean reports on the events that led to Dwill’s tragic murder was spraying of champagne? He was there. Yet he goes and puts himself in a postion for something similar again. I feel bad for up to a point. But when will these athletes ever learn they are not bullet proof? They piss somebody off, and then the athlete gets hammered or whatever, the is a target. I hope he is ok, and the coward gets caught and does serious time. But sometimes we as people do not need to put ourselves in these positions.

by broncfanstuckinsd on Jun 17, 2008 11:31 AM MDT reply actions   0 recs

I look at it like this.

If a woman is dressed to kill and by herself in a bad area at night, she might be responsible for being “stupid”. She is not, in any way at all, responsible for what happens to her if she is attacked. The attacker (in her case) should be imprisoned or even executed (in my opinion), but the victim (no matter how foolish or perhaps naive) should not receive our scorn.

Walker may or may not have been “stupid”. We just don’t know the facts. Here is what we do know. We know that he was beaten badly and (according to reports) probably robbed. The authorities investigating the facts know everything we know and much, much more. Let’s let them do their jobs.

As for me, I don’t care if the victim of a crime of violence is “stupid”, a jerk, a raider, a raider fan, an ex-Bronco with an axe to grind, or whatever. All I know is that someone out there was evil enough to attack someone (who cares if champagne was involved or not) and to beat someone badly enough to break an orbital bone and evil enough to leave the guy for dead. That’s called pure evil in my book.

I don’t fault Walker, I fault the attacker. I also look at the night of Williams’ murder the same way. The only person(s) to blame was the evil doer(s) who pulled the trigger(s). No one asked anyone to be shot at or viciously attacked.

Is Walker living a risky lifestyle? Maybe. And maybe he’ll pay the price for it someday. But I feel too much hate for violent criminals to be focused on what puts people in the position to be victims. If I had been there, and seen Walker getting bludgeoned to near death by some criminal piece of trash, I would have put on my blue and orange cape (figuratively) and stood side by side with “raider Walker” and done all I could to help him.

PS

I wouldn’t put myself in Walker’s position, but then again, I was young and foolish once. On the other hand, I would never put myself in the position of beating a man and leaving him on the side of the road, nor would I shoot at a vehicle full of people unless it was a function of military, law enforcement, or self defense neccessity.

I guess what i am trying to say is

Why even put yourself out like that. I am only questioning his judgement. I am sorry he hurt. In this day and age simple things like spraying Champagne can lead to a confortation. Just too many times we have read where this has happened. I am not condoning what happened. But he has to know he is a bigger target than you and I are. He is an athlete. Like it or not they stand out and are marked. Its sad we live in a time like this. I know what its like to be out there and a target. Everytime our ship would go into a port overseas we were always told to be on the buddy system. Being an American is a foreign port makes us stand out. I cant tell you how many times standing duty as a MP we had difuse situations or help the person who was just rolled. Maybe I look it from a different prespective and wish he would have had some people with him.

Hope this makes sense

I agree 100%, HT

It’s one thing to tell someone who’s behaving foolishly that they’re asking for it, if you’re hoping to dissuade them from making a costly mistake. But if you pull a told-you-so after the fact you’re just piling on and copping an attitude. Victims don’t need to be told they were foolish after they’ve already paid the price. If I comfort a crying child who’s just touched a hot stove, that won’t prevent him from learning not to touch hot stoves. At that point he doesn’t need me to tell him he shouldn’t have done that. He already knows. If that’s all I have to offer it shows I care less about him than about being right.

It would be nice if we could walk the streets whenever we felt like it, it pisses me off that we can’t because of the cowardly lowlifes that are to unscrupled to be positive members of society.

You both are so right

Yes – the violent offender is the worst kind of debased human – incapable of even a modicum of human compassion. Evil is right, HT. To me, it is mostly sad that people, so many people, get to that point….

OTOH – broncfan acknowledges that in this mean cold world we live in, you have to take some responsibility for the situations you put yourself in.

For example, I have traveled extensively in the developing world. To many people there, I look like I am made of money – my passport is worth on the black market more than most of them will make in their entire lives. And so I do not go wandering around town alone at night in those cities. That is called being cautious, and smart. Is it my fault that I was born a white American? No – but that doesn’t mean I walk into the street waving greenbacks.

To some $%#$@ in LV, Walker looked like money, and he is paying the price. Even if it is no fault of your own, doing what you need to do to not end up with a cracked skull in a hospital seems like it is worth the trouble…

by jonahsilas on Jun 17, 2008 7:34 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

I know what your saying and agree 100%

But now he is claiming he was KTFO in his room around 0530 then dumped. Now to me I dont believe him. If I am not mistaken there a tons of security camera’s in casinos. Now if this does turn out to be true, its sad. But a few questions come to mind. Why would you answer your hotel room door at 0530. Wouldnt you look thru the peep hole? If you did not know them call security? Call me skeptical, but I am not buying it. The Vega$ police are saying this is not random either

by broncfanstuckinsd on Jun 18, 2008 11:43 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Definitely fishy

The moving his body thing is just rediculous. This is a fairly immense human being – you don’t just move his knocked out bleeding body through a high end vegas hotel. Unless said hotel is on a set in Hollywood and you are filming Oceans 18!

And yes, Vegas is probably the most surveilled city in America. An image or two will show up sooner or later.

The sketchy story makes me think he is more culpable than it seems at first blush. If he really did nothing wrong, he wouldn’t be making up fairy tales…

I'm no Psychologist...

It almost seems to me (from his actions) as if he was inviting this attack. Maybe he is still feeling guilty from the D-Will attack (for whatever reason) even though he should no that night was clearly not his fault. He knows but he sounds like a man who is really hurting.

Walker Update

I was hesitant to include this. I don’t say that it is or isn’t true. It’s what is being reported, you’ll see or here about it soon and we’re all old enough to filter for ourselves. Criminals are human scum. Personal responsibility can bite us all, and we all do make mistakes. That said:

WALKER SPEAKS, MAKES NO SENSE

Posted by Mike Florio on June 17, 2008, 10:45 p.m.
Raiders receiver Javon Walker has given an exclusive interview to TheDirty.com, a web site that gathered notoriety over the past few months for, among other things, the publication of photographs of NFL players in compromising positions.
Here’s Walker’s claim: "I was just back at my room and at about 5:30 in the morning, I got a knock at the door, I opened it and 3 guys with guns were there, they cracked me in the head a few times knocking me unconscious. They then robbed me of everything I had– my watch– money– everything! Somehow they got me to the car and dropped me off in the street. That’s what happened."

Our reaction? Perhaps they need to check out Walker’s brain function a little more closely. Because whatever it was that cracked his orbital bone also might have functioned as the equivalent of a lobotomy.

Think about it. Three gun-wielding thugs walk through the lobby and, somehow knowing the number of Walker’s room, show up there, knock on the door, and pistol whip him when he opens it. Then, after ransacking the room, they drag his unconscious body out of the hotel without being detected and leave it in the street.
