The Greatest Broncos Of All Time....By The Numbers - #5

Mhrgoat_-_5_medium

The Candidates:

Brad Daluiso, K -- 1992

Well, so much for any discussion.  Couldn't Miles take #5??  Anyway, I'll take the easy way out and go with the only guy to officially wear #5 as a Bronco.  Of course, I have to have the required pic of Big Brad --

Daluiso had already been on no fewer than 4 NFL rosters(Packers, Falcons, Bills and Cowboys) before Dan Reeves brought him to Denver to be the kick-off specialist.  That experiment lasted only one season as Reeves was sent packing after the 1992 season.  Daluiso went East with Reeves, joining the coach in New York with the Giants.  Fortunately for Brad, his career in NY lasted longer than the coach.

After heading to New York, Daluiso wore #3, and ended up having a decent career by NFL standards, playing 8 seasons for the Giants.

Brad Daluiso retired in 2000 as the Giants all-time most accurate kicker, and is the 2nd all-time leading scorer in the team’s history.  In addition, he was a four time NFC Player of the Week, 1994 Special Teams Player of the Year and three year Team Captain (1997-1999).  Brad played in Super Bowl XXVI with the Buffalo Bills and Super Bowl XXXV with the New York Giants.  In 2003, Brad was recognized as one of the ten most revolutionary special team’s players in the history of professional football (The Star Ledger. September 10, 2003).

Up next, the thrills continue with #6!

#6, #7, and #8 promise to be much more interesting...
9, #10, and #11 don’t look very promising…hopefully there are some old timers in that group that I don’t know about that were pretty good. :)

David Treadwell makes me angry still to this day...

I wish him the best in life, but his name is a bad word in my household.

Is it the Buffalo game?

I will remember him missing all those FG’s. But I did win a lot of money at the bar I was in here @ Coronado. Denver +12. Easy money and lots of beer, I needed them after the close loss. I feel/felt so bad for Steve Sewell who fumbled the ball after Atwater recovered the onsides kick. I still say to this day it wasnt a fumble

hmm.

Maybe we should move through some of these numbers quickly?

If this be Hell, let us make the most of it!

Guess who else wore number 5?

Craig Morton is wearing #5 for a photograph that Topps Cards put on their football trading card and released late summer 1977. This is the “mexican” card number 27 in the series.

This photo was probably taken in training camp when he first arrived in Denver. I’m wondering if Craig Morton wore the #5 in preseason in 1977.

I put the image as my avatar so you can see it. I couldn’t find a non-commercial web link. You can get a closer look at it if you do a web search for Craig Morton topps 1977

Nice Find!

Just so everyone knows, I am using the 2007 Denver Broncos Media Guide to get the “official” list of names and numbers. Since Morton is not listed as a player that officially wore #5 my guess would be he did not. Still,.he might be the better option since #7 is a bit pre-occupied.

Thats awewsome

I read in Orange Madness he was not going to use 14 like in Dallas or the 15 in NY. So he decided to cut the losses in half (so to speak) and use #7. I dont know when he finally chose it. But a great find no matter what. Just because I think we give him the honorary #5 over Brad. =) Not to step on TSG’s toes

We are coming up

with some pretty creative solutions to some of these number quandaries. Morton for Cinco!!
