Who else...
is hoping that Selvin Young truly becomes the "beast" he says he feels like right now. I think Shanny lit a fire under him when he said at the end of the year that Young could not handle the work load of a work horse back. Young seems very driven. Came back to OTAs with more muscle and strength. Hes now getting 5 reps at 360...thats pretty strong (that equates to a max of 405)...and on top of that hes come in more confident and ready to go even so far as to state hes aiming for 2000 yards this year...(bold statement coming from a good humble person..which says alot about how he feels) ....I dont know maybe its just wishful thinkin for the year and now that Travis is out of the way if Selvin is in the backfield we got a lil bit more speed there.....man i cant wait for the season to get going...this is ridiculous!!!

I think everyone hopes Selvin (need a nickname here) Young
emerges as a pro-bowl caliber back. I think his playing time/performance comes down to three things:
1. secures the rock (no fumbles, dude!)
2. becomes a consistent inside-the-20 runner (we can’t afford another Fred Taylor between the 20’s RB. No slight to Taylor, but he’s the perfect example of the back who excels btw the 20’s but isn’t as much of a factor inside the 20 yd line).
3. withstands Torain et al coming after his job on a weekly basis. There’s something to be said for handling the #1 RB role, especially in Denver where you’re replaceable. He’s saying and DOING all the right things now; let’s hope it continues.
RIP Travis Henry. You provided me with my fantasy football team with a new name each week last year. For that, I thank you!

Let's Pretend
Just for fun, let’s pretend that Clady turns out to be a great run blocker, and with Nalen and Hamilton back we have a better line than last year. Then we put a bigger, stronger Selvin in the mix. Then let’s say that this bigger stronger Selvin manages 5.5 yards per carry—might be a stretch but benching 360 lbs. should make for a great stiff-arm.
Now let’s imagine this bigger stronger Selvin staying healthy, sharing reps with Pitman and Train, and still managing 23 pops a game. Let’s see. That would be 5.5 X 16 X 23.
For this to happen, however, we have to pretend that our defense can control the tempo of the game. If our defense does not improve we will spend too much time passing the ball playing catch-up.
Personally I would love to see Selvin go 23 X 5.5 X 16, but its more likely we’ll see Cutler throw for 4500 yrds.
I like the equation...
although I’m more concerned about our RB (if that’s Young even better) scoring TDs, converting 3rd and short for first down, and securing the rock. It was so frustrating last season having our RBs score only 9 TDs total. Nine! That’s terrible considering we ranked 9th overall in average yards per game (122.3). Again, we need our backs to run to glory more often than that. 1,500-1,800 yard seasons are great, but I want TDs. I’m confident that our improved offensive line will yield an even stronger running attack, but if we don’t double our TD production by our RBs, then I’ll be disappointed.
I wish Woody Paige was our coach!

I think this is the best feature of Selvin Young. He’s a terrific open field runner. He needs more carries to get shots at the goal line.
