NFL Suspends Mike Anderson
I stumbled across this today when looking for some Horse Tracks articles. There wasn't much else going on but It needed to be reported. See here
Mike Anderson was the best story in football in 2000, a 27-year-old rookie and Marine Corps veteran who came out of nowhere to rush for 1,487 yards and win the league's rookie of the year award with the Denver Broncos.
Anderson spent five more seasons with the Broncos and then the last two with the Baltimore Ravens, but he never matched that level of success, and he's not currently under contract to any NFL team. And now no team could play him in 2008, even if they wanted to.
Howard Balzer of Sports XChange is reporting (via PFT) that Anderson has been suspended for one year, apparently for a violation of the league's substance-abuse policy. He was previously suspended four games in 2003 for a violation of the substance-abuse policy.
Realistically, this suspension means his career is over no one is going to sign a 35-year-old running back coming off a yearlong suspension. It's a disappointing end for a career that had such a great beginning.
What a sad way to end a career! He was a critical player for the Broncos after TD's knee injuries. Thanks for your service in the USMC and the Broncos. Please get some help!

That really is a shame.
I miss the way Mike ran for us. He had so much heart, and a great second and third effort. He wasn’t the most talented player, but he certainly left the most out on the field. It’s too bad he had to go out like this. I wish him the best of luck and hope he can get clean and have a healthy, productive life outside of football.
Why do I live in Kansas City?
Another one bites the dust...
When will they learn? I love ya Mike – but why?

I wish him the best.
This is very disappointing. Mike gave it his all for the Broncos and he ran very hard for the time he was with the team. He was one of my favorite RBs since TD and I was bummed when I found out that he was no longer a Bronco. He definatly gave it his all.
Too dang bad...
I loved Mike. I hate to see him go out like this. I guess because of his late start he was trying to defeat age and hold on to a few more years.

Bummer to see another veteran, especially a fellow Marine go down.
One of our traditions in the Corps was to never leave a fallen comrade, so I will be rooting for him to straighten his life out.
I can't add much.
I loved having him as a Bronco. I’m sorry he’s gotten himself into trouble again. Was it marijuana again?
If this be Hell, let us make the most of it!
Hmm, I must have forgotten to click on "POST".
Gol darned infernal contraptions!
I tried to say earlier I can’t add much but I loved having Mike on our team and I feel bad for him. He gave us a lot of good memories. Does any one know what the “banned substance” was?
If this be Hell, let us make the most of it!
