I feelings have changed concerning Javon Walker...
after reading this article on espn....
He obviously hasnt taken the time to grieve...the fact that he went to vegas first during the funeral of D-Wills and secondly during the opening of teh foundation for D-Wills says ALOT. His coping mechanism of going to Vegas is probably not a good one. I do feel for him greatly. I have never experienced what he did with a close friend dying in your arms and I'm sure that I would never ever forget it. In the article close friends even stated that he said said he doesnt think he would ever get over what happened. It really does hurt my heart to hear that. I am one person whom has personally talked down about Javons actions after the season was over. I feel now that his actions are a fasade....acting brash and cocky doesnt allow him to grieve in public.
I hope and pray that he does get the counseling he is considering now that he was defiant against before and I hope everything turns out well for him.
RIP D-Wills

There is no doubt he cares greatly for DWill...
but my angst with him is his lack of team spirit and his all about me attitude that I cannot get past.

Bill Williamson
is a gelatinous tub of goo. Everything he writes is horseshit.
Michael Fabiano really knows nothing about football outside of regression analysis and stat extrapolation. If it doesn’t have to do with fantasy football, his opinion is worthless.
True,
...but maybe put just a little too strongly.

have you noticed
that kwool seems to keep things bottled up? He doesn’t come out and tell us what he really feels.

He has issues
But they revolve around him. Sure maybe he hasnt grieved for D-Will but when given the opportunity to get help he has refused. Too me thats selfish on his part. He is to self destruct. for tha I feel for him. But he has to look into the mirror and come to grips with himself first. God only helps those who helps themselves.

You Are Somewhat Right
I feel terrible for him. D-Wil was a friend and he died in his arms and that is a terrible thing. But the truth is he can’t grieve forver. There is a point where you need to move on with your life and stop acting childish.
I disagree
Many people grieve until they are dead, and some just drink until they are dead to avoid having to grieve. But I agree with you, he does need to grow up and begin a healthy grieving process, otherwise he has nowhere to go but down. I’ve been stuck in a similar cycle, and it is draining. I hope for his sake that Sherman can get him to open up, otherwise this will just keep eating away at him.
I felt a strong connection to Javon after the shooting, and his vegas trips do not change that for me, I don’t think that they were the right choices, but I still understand why he kept running away.
That said, I am counting the days until John Lynch pops him coming across the middle (75). But as a person, I hope he can find peace with his past.
What a rotten first post, anyways, I’ve been reading MHR for a few months now, and am so thankful that there is an alternative to the DP.
Not a rotten first post at all.
The subject may be rotten, but you stated your position well. One of my "day" jobs is as a licensed Grief Recovery Counselor. Walkers’ partying and Vegas trips are most likely what are known as STERBs or Short Term Emotional Relief Behaviors. I certainly don’t know but I would hazard a guess that Walker has more than one grief issue. Many comments below, including those by davecheffy, make good points.
Thanks for the comment.

he cares not, folks
is “making it rain’ a new form of therapy for depression, even after it lead to the death of your teammate? is running to vegas on every important event regarding the so-called “friend” that died in your arms the right thing to do? listen, i am embarassed that i am the guy that was sticking up for walker, here and elsewhere, at the end of last season. of course, that was before all of this other vegas stuff came out, but i already did the ‘it isn’t his fault, he’s been through alot, etc.” thing. he is supposed to be a man. he bashes the broncos, saying it is personal, and then goes out and gets his face kicked in partying like it’s 1999. doing the exact same stupid thing, again. i was wrong, this guy is a loser. he gave us 1 great year. bottom line. now he is on oakland, and he is going to show us what we’re missing. fine. i can’t wait to see it. i think the part about him caring alot is the real facade. i do not see any evidence to the contrary. he spilled more money in champagne than he donated to the teen center. compare him to foxworth, and you tell me who cares. foxy has more class in his pinky than this guy will ever have. you would think d-will died in HIS arms. please. my feelings regarding walker have changed also. i know this is harsh, but when i hear he was posing for pictures in his blood-stained shirt, that draws my ire. rest in peace d-will
I mostly agree
I know it’s harsh to not have sympathy on someone who is a victim of a crime, but my main gripe with the situation is that if spraying champagne on a crowd is likely the cause of your teammate’s and good friend’s death, you do NOT go out and spend 15k on Don and spray it on another crowd (allegedly, but mostly validated by online pix). That, in my mind, is the equivalent of him pissing on DWill’s (RIP) grave. Disrespect on a high high level. =/
It’s apparent that he’s got issues, but that doesn’t preclude me from not liking the guy. I do hope he does seek out help and gets his act together …
Lastly, I agree on Foxy… btw, did anyone post and share with everyone the story about how Foxworth has contributed to the center and community since DWill’s death??? It’s a touching and uplifting story to say the least…
IMO
You can have sympathy for the situation (both mentally and physically) that Javon Walker is in, but still be critical of the way he has responded to events over the past 1.5 years. In that respect, I thought Bill Williamson did an excellent job in the piece: he portrayed Javon as a person, but still made the point that help has been offered…but Javon hasn’t yet made use of it.
Pride is a dangerous thing, and I can only imagine the pride/ego/determination of an NFL wide receiver. To break down, ask for help…that is a sign of weakness, and you can’t show weakness. It seems like a mental trap for Javon: he NEEDS to get this off himself (going to party in Vegas only prevents you from dealing with the effects; it doesn’t remove them.) But he is conditioned to be strong and invincible.
I feel badly for Javon, simply because I hate to see anyone waste talent and a life this way. And whereas we can see someone going up to Brandon Marshall, slapping him upside the head, and telling him to get his head on straight…you can’t do that to Javon. It would only push the mental issues further in, when they need to come out.

Ok
I can understand having grief for someone who died in your arms, I can even understand not knowing how to properly grieve. What I cant understand is how you go out and disrespect everything the person stood for, which in this case is the team. That would be like a soldier going out and pissing in the barracks because his buddy dies in his arms in Iraq! This just doesn’t cut it for me. There are friends family clergy and counselors to help with this!
Until Terrell Davis makes it into the Hall of Fame, I refuse to acknowledge the existence of such a place other than the Ring of Fame at Mile High!
Davis to the Hall!
just to correct you...
he donated $30,000 to the center…pretty sure the amount on the bottles wasnt that high…also he didnt pose for pics in the blood stained shirt…paparazzi took pics of him in the shirt as he was entering the broncos headquaters….
your right though…hes a grown man and needs be held accountable for his actions…
it was...
it was reported he spent 15k on champagne at tryst AND at the hard rock . also, i highly doubt this was the only weekend he ever did this. i think it would be safe to say he doubled his donation on champagne in the last year or so. 30k is chump change to this guy, anyway
as far as the pics, i do not have any more facts on them. i’ll take your info on that as correct. but i did read the word “posed”, and i have a problem with that if it is true. personally, i would have taken the pictures from the guy if he took them without my permission after my friend just got blown away. but that’s me, not javon
Man
I wish I had 15K to blow at a nightclub. He will be broke when he is cut by the faders after another dismal season. Its too bad. He needs to take stock in whats really important in his life
