Sportscenter

Tonight, after PTI ended ESPN ran a teaser for Sportscenter.  After touching on the NBA draft they cut to a clip of Jay Cutler and ask “Who’s going to have a breakout year in the AFC west?”  They follow up with a more negative question (I can’t remember exactly what) and show a clip from Phil Rivers.  I couldn’t believe it, love for Denver on ESPN?

So after sitting through news that the Astros released Chacon and more NBA draft analysis they finally go to Mort and our own Tom Jackson.

Jackson goes says that he thought last year would be a breakout year for Cutler but now he thinks it will be 2008.  He also notes Denver has question marks rushing the passer and at RB.  (I actually think the pass rush will be fine, stopping the run will be a bigger concern.)

Then Mort jumps in and says that even though the Chargers are saying he is fine, there are some issues with Phil River’s health and the RB depth behind LT is also questionable.

I know it’s Tom Jackson but…

Is the national media ready to embrace the Broncos again?

When Elway finally won a Superbowl sympathy for him and the team went away and was replaced by content for Mike Shanahan being called a genius and the blocking tactics of their offensive line.

With one losing season are the Broncos loveable underdogs again?

I thought I’d never see the day.

I have to admit, I was pretty happy when ESPN let the contract expire for Shanahan critic Sean Salisbury.  I don’t know if Mike failed to call his agent back when he was a player or what but “steak” never failed to take a shot at Shanny every chance he got.

I may be crazy but I think ESPN is going MHR right before our eyes.

Brick

Do you remember the bar that had the prize of throwing a brick at the TV when Cosell was on?

I would have been like eight years old!

I wasn’t going to bars until I was at least 13.

But it sounds fun.

Don't get too excited

They’re probably just doing this piece as a “token” piece so that ESPN can say “Hey, we’re not biased against the Broncos”. If you see a non-Bronco commentator saying this, then I will take notice.

Michael Fabiano really knows nothing about football outside of regression analysis and stat extrapolation. If it doesn’t have to do with fantasy football, his opinion is worthless.

Maybe.

But I haven’t heard anything negative about San Diego Since John Butler died.

Aww

You got me so excited, I rad to the TV with glee and beamed as I put on ESPN. And I got NBA Draft. So I happily flipped to ESPN2. WNBA Basketball. ESPNU: College Baseball highlights. ESPN8 The Ocho: Dirtbike Pole Vaulting.

Then, after I had exhausted every viable link to SporsCenter, I dejectedly walked back to the computer, thinking this had all been a clever ruse painted around my eyes and you all were trying to trick me.

Then I looked at the post date. Probably should have done that sooner. Well, maybe I’ll catch it in the morning before work.

Make that

“ran to the TV” and “post time” I re-read that comment and it didn’t even make sense. lol. Guess that’s what that big button that says PREVIEW is for.

on the radar

when we make the playoffs, they are going to have to talk about us. until then, we will have to earn it. tom j. has always been very supportive of us, though, and i’m glad we have a few other ex-broncos out there in tv land now(stinky, davis, sharpe). but i get all in need watching the games and reading mhr. who needs ‘em, anyway?

Nah

When we make the playoffs they’ll say we were lucky, or they’ll talk more about the other team.

Or they'll do what they did in 2005

and call us “the best team no one’s talking about” and then not talk about us.

I loved the fact

That NOBODY gave the Broncos a chance against the Pats that year, and lo and beold they lost to a team that had Plummer as the QB. =)

I am disappointed in TJ

I say screw ESPN. Mort, that fraud Jeremy Green and Clayton and the rest of those NE/Dallas lovers go straight to hades dont pass go and dont collect $200. I am so over ESPN, the thing that sucks there is no other sports news show.

Let's Hope They Don't Respect us.

I hope they don’t respect us. I have a good feeling about this year. I think we are so far under the radar, that even after we start out 2-0, the mainline media will talk (and write) more about players on the teams we beat. ...than us.
