I really want to know if
You guys think Rod Smith is hall of fame worthy
He has more receptions and Touchdowns thank Micheal Irvin
He was Undrafted, didnt even go to a division 1 college(southern missouri state)
He has two superbowl rings
He is a 3-time pro-bowler and a 2-time first teamer
So even though Rod isnt a big name guy he has fought threw injuries and came from no where. He has the stats that the big guys put up and is an inspirtation to the small name players.

With a few exceptions
HOF is traditionally given to players who show longevity and dominance, or innovation, at their position. Rod has done this, playing so long, through injuries, overcoming so much. He’s certainly the most dominant undrafted WR in NFL history, however….
He’ll get overlooked just as quickly and easily as the many other Broncos who certainly deserve to be there as well, but never will. He’s definately earned it, but won’t make the cut.

I see a flaw there
WR is different. There has been only one dominate WR, Rice. Look Art Monk just got in. He never lead the NFL in receptions or yards. So Anything is possible. His undrafted status plus 12 seasons active are a bonus for him.

Rod Smith - HOF?
Unfortunately, I think not. I want him to make it as much as the next person, but I just don’t see it happening. He is definitely a Hall of Famer in Broncos fans eyes and I think it will stay that way. I keep thinking of Art Monk and how long it has taken him to get in and how much debate was tied to him getting in. I also think the fact that he was not drafted, hurts his cause rather than helps it.

Maybe
He should have smoked crack and been an ingrate like Irvin, on second thought he will be in the Ring of Fame which IMO is better than the HOF

I beg to differ...
While I still think it will be a long tough sell to get Rod in the hof -
I think his undrafted status will help him. This is a great PR story for the NFL. Gives hope to every undrafted player to fight on. I can’t think of anything as inspirational as Rod’s career and would only be all the more if he were in the hof.
If I worked in the upper ranks at the NFL – I would lobby for Rod and then sell that PR story like the emotional Olympic athlete’s commercials. It would go along way because it is a true story of real heroism. An Athlete that isn’t out of reach for the fan base. A role model for future players. An Athlete that never quit… and rose to the top. An Athlete that did not forget how he became one of the best… and then gave it back to younger players.
Rod Smith lived the American dream … with true blue collar work ethic. What is a better story than this. Sure you can have your bad attitude WR with their “its all about the bling bling” – “it all about me -screw my team” mentalities in there as well…. but lets give the fans a hof member that we can celebrate as a man and not just a player.
I beg the NFL Brass and the hof selection committee to think this through. Who do they want their children to grow up like. Rod Smith? Or one of the other selfish WR’s. Do this for the fans.
Rod to the hof!

Rod
Yellowstonebronco, I hope you are right as far as his undrafted status helping him. He was a great player, and I think he should be discussed, but I his chances for getting in are probably about 50-50.

I can see that
I see your point and hope you are right. It used to be all I wanted was a Denver Superbowl victory. I got that and said, OK, now I can die happy. Then all I wanted was Johnny in the Hall. Of course that eventually happened. Now I have been saying since last year, Please let Rod Smith make it in to the Hall of Fame. If that happens, all will be right with the world.
Best wishes on the Hall Rod.

I must agree with Yellowstone
But first Rod has to retire to start his 5 year clock. Being the most prolific undrafted Wr in the NFL’s history is a HUGE plus. It may outweigh the fact he played in Denver. He has had 2 100 reception seasons in 2001 had lead the NFL with 113. In 2000 he lead the NFL in yards with over 1600. He is only the 6th player in NFL history with over 100 receptions against 3 or more team (AFC West) . Plus his 152 yards on 5 receptions in SB 33 is the 4th highest in SB History

Rod Smith
is perhaps my favorite Bronco of all time. That’s right, IMO he is right up there with Elway and Floyd Little. Unfortunately, I doubt he will make it. BornOrange and orangeblood stated the situation well. Good Post RodSmithrox, thanks.

R. Smith classy, talented
but saddly he wont get into the HOF, not because he doesn’t deserve it, but because Denver players are never considered for the HOF. Not sure who we ticked off, but for some reason several of our players who should be in the HOF are NOT!! Rod should be going to the HOF, just like T. Davis should, I believe its the quality of the time you spend, not the quantity!
