John-Jake-n-Jay Question of the Day
How many years will it take until Jay Cutler makes the pro-bowl?
This is a tough question to answer, mainly due to the fact that the AFC quarterbacks so competitive and flat out amazing. Lets first look at who he is competing with before I tell you the answer to this question.
We have to assume that either Brady and Manning are going to be in the Pro-Bowl every year for the next 5 years, not both but either one (lets hope that they both don't consistently make it the next 5 years). So there goes 1 of the 3 spots.
The other qb's in the AFC that Cutty will be competing against are Carson Palmer, Big Ben, and even though I hate to say this but Phillip Rivers, So lets assume that at least one of these players will make for the next five years. So there goes another spot for the Pro-Bowl. 2 of 3 spots taken.
We now have to come to the sleeper picks that have shown some spark and potential in their careers, Derek Anderson, David Garrard. As of right now, I think Cutty belongs in this catagory.
So with this being Cutty's 3rd year, he is going to fall just short of this years pro bowl. And looking at flat out potential and skill of the AFC quarterbacks, Cutty is going to fall shy once again of the pro bowl two years down the road. However 3 seasons from now, Cutty will be fully matured and will be a consistent visitor to Hawaii. Bottom line is that it will take Cutty 3 more seasons before he makes the Pro-Bowl.

I would say another couple of years and some national attention....
Cutler will get there at some point. It may be as an alternate to start with.
btw….how does my new sig look?

I'll be a little more bold.
Cutler’s blood-sugar woes is going to be a great, ‘up close and personal’ story. It wouldn’t surprise me if it is brought as a major story in all prime-time games, and at least mentioned in every game. This will give Cutler a ton of national exposure as well as many sympathy votes for pro-bowl selections. The next ‘when’ depends on wins.
Everyone knows I am an idiot that spends way to much time in, ‘la-la-feel-good-land,’ but I really believe that if this team can meld quickly and we start the season 2 and 0 (knocking off the Chargers in week two) we are on our way to a 13-3 season.
If this happens Cutler is in the Pro-Bowl this year.

MIKE I AGREE
I don’t think that it is a mater of time for JC to produce, but a mater of WHEN the team comes together, all at the same time. The look of the team right now, granted the preseason has not started yet, is such that it has me beleiving that this year is going to surprise a lot of people! lets hope so!

metal I think the meld and when they come together has happened .....yet still in progress..
I really like the character of this team. Not since ‘95 or ‘96 have I been so happy with so many new-comers. I am really happy with what I think our team is about to do.

Yep...nice question bad answer
He is WAY above the class of Garrard and Rivers…..putting him with those guys is insulting.
I look at who I would swap Cutler with now from the WHOLE NFL and I only come up with Peyton and Schmucko Brady….he will be the No 3 ranked QB in the AFC and will establish himself as a Top 5 QB this year.
Good points Mike Clark and Metal Man…..Cutler shined lasst year with no RB, a torn up WR Corps and HORRENDOUS O Line….what will he do now he has some time and WAY better offensive options.
Peace!

not to mention
type 1 diabetes—the loss of 30 + lbs. and strength , and a horrible defense who could not get Cutler the ball.

Watch out!
Our beloved Denver Broncos are going to be much better than people think this year because of 1 reason and 1 reason only. Outstanding Quarterback play!

Could be this year
This question hinges on two things: does BMar stay out of trouble and suspension, and does TShef stay healthy. If they both do then Cutler will make the Pro Bowl this year as the 3rd QB behind Manning and Brady. If they do not, then I think Cutler will struggle a little bit. Cutler has all the tools to be a great QB, he just needs his best play makers on the field.

Its this year
Look at this: Since Shanny has become a OC and HC and had his offenses established in SF and denver the following has happened in year 3 the following QBs all made the pro bowl in year 3:
Steve Young also was SB MVP, NFL MVP
Elway and won a SB
Griese and had 102.2 QB rating
Plummer his only pro bowl and AFC title game
I think JC this year and who knows what else

Good stuff
and I am with you that he will be a pro bowl QB, but do you think he will actually go? This is all for fun of course, since Peyton could blow out a knee and Brady could be permanently damaged in the psyche from the SB, but the list keeps going of media darlings and voting base that does not go Cutler’s way.
I will say that I think the media is starting to take a shine to Cutler… so perhaps anything could happen :)

If I was him
And after celebrating a SB title I would skip it. =) But then again him playing in that game could do a lot for diabetes awarness. Especially for Juvy diabetes. I think he is the perfect guy to be the spokesman for JDF. A QB in the NFL. Cant get more high profile than that

Two to three years.
Though he’ll be pro-bowl caliber this year. The defense needs a little time (and a couple more key people), and the new OL (after Nalen and Hamilton’s departures) will need to gell.

I'm not saying he won't be great this year or next.
The real issue is, does he get the recognition to surpass Manning or Brady to get to the pro-bowl. I wrote that he’ll be pro-bowl caliber this year, but for him to get in the bowl he’ll be up against media coverage.

Remember
There are 3 pro bowl QB’s each season. Not too mention Brady and/or manning could be voted in and decide not to play and then a QB is selected to replace them, Plus if phylis can make the probowl I know JC can

I'll bet you a large A&W rootbeer that he makes it this year.
I just think the diabetes story is going to put Cutler’s name at for for-front of every game this year.
