John-Jake-n-Jay: Jason Taylor Traded to Redskins!!!!
ESPN reports that Jason Taylor traded to Redskins for a 2nd and 6th round pick in 2010 NFL Draft! Article below found on ESPN.com
After losing defensive end Phillip Daniels for the season, the Washington Redskins moved quickly to fill the void.

Taylor Made For Consistency

The Redskins will be getting a pass rusher who always puts up numbers. Jason Taylor has had more than 11 sacks in each of the last three seasons. Here's the list of players that were active in 2007 who have the most seasons with at least 10 sacks.
| Player | 10+ sack seasons | Status |
| Simeon Rice | 8 | Free agent |
| Jason Taylor | 6 | Traded |
| Michael Strahan | 6 | Retired |
The Redskins acquired Jason Taylor from the Miami Dolphins.
The Dolphins will receive a second-round pick in 2009 and a sixth-rounder in 2010.
According to ESPN.com's John Clayton, Taylor told the Redskins he did not need to renegotiate and was willing to play for the final two years of his contract. He is scheduled to make $8.1 million this season. With around $9 million of cap room, the Redskins were able to work the trade quickly.
The Dolphins had been waiting for an opportunity to trade Taylor, who asked to be moved to a playoff contender at the beginning of the offseason. Before the draft, the Dolphins were asking for a first-round draft choice. They lowered the demand later to a second-rounder.
Taylor didn't win over Miami executive vice president of football operations Bill Parcells by missing all of the team's offseason work while competing in ABC's "Dancing With The Stars."
"We're fortunate there was a guy that caliber on the market when somebody got hurt," Washington executive vice president Vinny Cerrato said. "Normally, in most years, there's not a guy of that caliber on the market."
The 33-year-old Taylor has played 11 NFL seasons and he's started every game each of the past eight years.
He had 11 sacks during the 2007 season, giving him 117 over his career.
"His play speaks for itself. I think it's easy to talk about Jason Taylor. He's got statistics and everything else to back up everything that he's done," Cerrato said.
Taylor has said he planned to play only one more season.
But Cerrato said: "I'm 100 percent positive he'll play longer than one year."
Daniels, a starter, was hurt on the initial play of 7-on-7 offense vs. defense drills on Sunday. He stayed down on the turf for several minutes before being taken away on a cart, a towel draped over his head. He's expected to have surgery Friday.
"Not a good way to start, at all," middle linebacker London Fletcher said. "It's a big blow to our defense. Phil was a tremendous leader, excellent at playing the run, and was going to be our third-down attack guy. With him going down, it's like we're replacing two guys."
ESPN.com's John Clayton first reported Daniels' season-ending injury and the fact that the Redskins were pursuing Taylor.
Cerrato said Taylor is expected to report to Redskins training camp on Monday.
The Redskins also lost another defensive end, reserve Alex Buzbee, to a season-ending injury during their afternoon practice. Buzbee ruptured his Achilles tendon.
"With Phillip gone, and now Buzbee gone, there's a hole there," head coach Jim Zorn said. "And Phillip has created a big hole."
Day 1 of Zorn's training camp debut as an NFL head coach also included this sight: Cornerback Fred Smoot threw off his left shoe and clearly was in pain after wideout Santana Moss landed on him during the afternoon practice. It turned out Smoot sprained his ankle and is expected to only miss a week or less.
"I love sprained ankles now, because we know that's just a few days' deal," Zorn said, cracking a smile.
He was more serious while speaking about the loss of Daniels, who has played 12 seasons in the NFL with Washington, Chicago and Seattle. His 59 career sacks rank 17th among active players.
"The hard part is he was so ready, and he did everything that he could possibly do to not just have a great training camp but an excellent football season," Zorn said. "And now he's got a new challenge before him, and of course we have a new challenge before us."
The Redskins began training camp with Erasmus James sidelined. He's a former first-round pick who has had serious knee injuries, and Zorn said he doesn't expect James to be able to begin practicing until next month.
WOW!!!! I think that both teams got good value for what they received. The Redskins needed a explosive pass rusher, and Miami is rebuilding and just recieved two draft picks, one of which is a second rounder. Also, Jason is on the old side, so I would say that a 2nd and 6th pick is fair for what they gave up.

2nd next year and a 6th after that seems steep
for a player that only has one or two years left. Although, if it gets Washington to the Playoffs, and allows them to make some noise while they are there, it’s a worthy investment.

Only if it pays out with a ring...
Otherwise it’s a wasted move for Washington.

Remember ,
Washington traded Champ Bailey for Clinton Portis – they probably will be on-the-short-end-of-the-stick here 2 . Taylor says he is only playing 1 more year , if so , that seems a little high.

Well
He wont play the Broncos this year. I think thats a good deal for both teams. Wash gets a rush guy, and he told the Skins he will fufill his contract. Miami gets a 2nd next year and a 6th in 2010 for a dancer. Parcells will look like a genius now. He was lucky Daniels got hurt. I wouldnt have given more than a 3rd for an old rushing LB/DE

I have to say
that I get a little nostalgic thinking about screwing the redskins over in a trade. (sniff)
Its good to see that another team is filling in for us this year, though.

I still say Champ got robbed!!
I still have a bitter taste in my mouth from when Champ got beaten out by this guy for DPOTY. He was a steal for the Skins though.

GTA: Denver
I’m referring of course to Grand Theft Award.
I don’t think a corner will ever be awarded DPOY in the modern era unless the player is well on his way to a superbowl when the award is handed out. I can understand that defensive line is a degree of importance greater than the defensive backfield, but this is an individual award that should be based on mastery of one’s position. The year Champ got passed over he demonstrated a playing level so elite that I think it may have been the best single season put together by a corner at least since deion, possibly longer.

Listen up!!!
People please! Stop saying we got over on the Skins in the Bailey/Portis trade. The trade was a win-win. I would take Champ over Portis any day also, but if you ask most Skins fans, they frikin LOVE Clinton Portis. Trust me. I live in Redskins country. I was just talking to a friend the other day who is a Skins fan. He says that Clinton Portis is the heart and soul of that team. I love having Champ. Love it! But here is a what if for you. What if that trade never happened? What if we had given Portis that extension? What if he was still a Denver Bronco? Don’t you think half of these blogs would be about how great Portis is? Holy bleep. Think of the numbers he would have put up by now. If we still had Portis, do you think ESPN would have rated us 29 in the RB department? I’m sorry but I just had to vent. Clinton Portis is a freakin stud and the trade was a win for Denver and a win for Washington.

I think most fans are referring
to the 3way lelie trade that netted TJ Duckett for the redskins. But for the ones that aren’t you are absolutely correct that neither team regrets acquiring Champ and Portis. Great fits for both teams.
I think part of the angst about Broncos-Redskins trades also comes from the number of rumored trades that have cropped up since the Duckett disaster, and all of them have been onesided and decidedly Snyder-esque, i.e. bad in the long term for the Redskins. Of course none of them ended up being true, but I think they add to the notion that the Denver frontoffice has it out for the Redskins.
I believe the latest was a 3 way trade involving the Lions that sent the #2 in 2007 draft to Denver, sent Bly and the Redskins old 3rd rounder to Washington, and sent the Redskins 1st rounder to Detroit….

Washington almost traded for John Elway in 1991!
Glad that never happened!

i disagree
I think Denver won the trade. Sure Wash is happy with Portis, but he is a bit injury prone and has come nowhere to equaling his 5.5. yard per carry average since leaving Denver. Plus Denver got Champ and Bell who eventually ends up being Dre Bly. It is 100 times easier in this league to get a good to great running back than it is to get 8 time (consecutively) Pro Bowl shut down corner. I dont think Portis is a stud. Denver has routinely had a better average and yards gained since Portis left, than the Skins. If Portis is such the real deal why hasnt the Broncos running game ever missed a beat. I will even go 1 step further since he left Denver running backs has had as many 1000 yard rushing seasons as Portis. RB’s are overvalued.

Champ vs. Portis
I would take Champ over Portis any day also, but if you ask most Skins fans, they frikin LOVE Clinton Portis.
No one wants to admit that they came in second on a deal, and Portis does have talent, but the Broncos obviously got the better of the trade. Portis averaged 5.5 yds his two years with the Broncos. In the four years since he’s averaged 3.8, 4.3, 4.1, 3.9. Bailey is widely considered to be the best CB in the league. Is Portis considered to be the best RB? He was good in the Broncos’ system but has never had the kind of dominating season Champ had in 2006. And, because DBs don’t get beat up so much and thus have longer careers, Denver will get more good years out of Bailey than Washington will get out of Portis. Portis is a very good back, but very good backs come into the league every year. How often does a Champ Bailey come along? Perhaps the feeling of some Denver fans that we took the Skins to the cleaners is overstating it, but I think we clearly came out ahead.
