Why ESPN is Stupid
A few weeks of family in town/vacationing in Yellowstone kept me away from the inter-tubes, but I return just in time to see a quick break down of the Broncos Training Camp:
• What John Clayton says: The Broncos train at their headquarters near a suburban airport. What's amazing is the amount of parking spaces available, which is important because Broncos fans flock to the summer practices. There are plenty of workers there to funnel the cars to a lot within walking distances of the facility. Places to eat are located more than a mile away, which is appropriate. Broncos practices are all about football. Coach Mike Shanahan wants it that way.
• What to do besides training camp: The peaceful, scenic area is home to a number of recreational parks, as well as Pirates Cove, a family aquatic center. Englewood Golf Course offers visitors an opportunity to work on their swing when not attending practice, while the CityCenter Englewood Amphitheatre will play host to free outdoor concerts as part of the Sounds of Summer series. Another point of interest is Merrill Engineering Laboratories – where, if you aren't already aware, the world's first electronic dynamic wheel-balancing system was invented in 1945.
Very cool that they provide alternative activities. But...wait a second. Pirates Cove? Englewood Golf Course, CityCenter Englewood Amphitheatre? Merrill Engineering Laboratories? Yes, they are all in Englewood, as is Dove Valley. But Englewood, CO is an odd place that stretches between Santa Fe and Arapahoe. Most of the "attractions" listed in the article are on the OTHER SIDE of Englewood, and no where close to Dove Valley!
I do believe someone at ESPN just Googled Englewood, grabbed a few tidbits, and left it at that. Stupid.

Fact is...
Dove Valley is kind of in the middle of nowhere. You just about have to go that far to find things of interest. It is right by the Denver Tech Center with a bunch of bars and restaraunts that will be happy to serve you a beer for seven dollars and a sandwhich for twenty.

I wouldn't go that far
I lived a few miles from Dove Valley after grad school. Sure, it wasn’t exactly in the most exciting part of town, but there are a few bars in the area. My point is more of this: if things such as Pirate Cove or a municipal golf course are what they want to list, there are similar activities MUCH closer…and if the person who wrote that paragraph had done a little research, it would have been very obvious.
Trying to think of what is closer off the top of my head:
Family Fun Center (Avalanche do their training camp there), with a driving range and golf course next door
Indigo Joe’s sports bar (not great, but close!)
“Chinese” Theater at Arapahoe and Parker
Southlands are a bit of a drive, but still closer than anything else mentioned
As mentioned, the Tech Center is still closer (if over-priced)
A bunch of other restaurants and bars along Arapahoe
So, yeah, there are things to do. I was just upset at the complete lack of effort put into the write-up. I’d be curious if other camps got the same treatment.

Oh, man, the world's first electronic dynamic wheel-balancing system was invented there in 1945?!
Really? I have GOT to book a vacation there!!
Why do I live in Kansas City?

I KNOW!!!
Oh, wait, it isn’t that exciting. Nevermind. :o)
Begs the question: was the writer just this desperate (deadline up in 10 minutes, and he/she needed a few random things) or is it a joke meant to show how sad the cow-town of Englewood is?
