So Long Mr. Gold...
Ian Gold at Kickoff (via lensbs)

Linebacker Ian Gold, a mainstay for the Denver Broncos for all of the decade (except for the year he played with the Buccaneers) has decided to retire from the NFL, according to Adam Schefter of NFL Network.
"When people hear I’m retiring, they’re going to be like, ‘Ian who?. But I’m all right with that," Gold said. "I’ve had some people say to me, ‘You’re retiring?’, and they think it’s crazy," Gold said. "But it’s not. It’s time to move on. I’m not pulling a Brett Favre. I’m getting out of the game with my health and my youth."
Gold tore an ACL during the 2003 season, the final year of his rookie contract. He signed as a free agent with the Bucs, started 13 games there in 2004, and then re-signed with the Broncos in 2005.
He started 16 games for Denver in 2005, 15 games in 2006, and 14 games in 2007. Gold qualified for the Pro Bowl in 2001, his second NFL season.
I tip my hat to Ian Gold. Though his performance was less than stellar last season, I was happy to root for him during his two stints with the team and wish him the best.<!-- TOKEN_1216917744383_TOKEN -->

Ian who?
Had to do it. I will always remember him blocking the punt against the raiders on MNF in 2000. But his time was done. One of the best LB’s units in the NFL for a time

I saw that play at the old stadium.
You could hear the “ka-thump” of Lechler’s punt into Ian Gold. I thought the stadium was going to fall into itself. I couldn’t speak for a week.

I like to think fondly of
Ian Gold and Al Wilson for that matter as the Broncos who served the team/organization well as we transitioned from the Elway Era to the Cutler Era. It was fun to watch them play.
I wish Woody Paige was our coach!

was a better tackler than Ian Gold.
Michael Fabiano really knows nothing about football outside of regression analysis and stat extrapolation. If it doesn’t have to do with fantasy football, his opinion is worthless.

That tells you how good Ian Gold was.

why all the hate
for Gold? He must have been somewhat good player. He lasted from 2000 until 2007. Last year had a bad season but so did the entire defense.

I don't get it either.
Except for last year, he was a beast!
