Broncos Sign WR Taylor Jacobs, Place Edell Sheppard on IR
The Denver Broncos on Saturday signed free-agent wide receiver Taylor Jacobs, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The Broncos also on Saturday placed wide receiver Edell Shepherd on their reserve/injured list. Shepherd, a fifth-year player who joined the Broncos as a free agent on March 6, suffered a left knee injury during Friday morning's practice.
Jacobs (6-foot-1 210 pounds), a sixth-year player, finished the 2007 season on Denver's roster after the club signed him on Nov. 6 and competed in its offseason program before he was released on June 13. He also has played for San Francisco (2006-07) and Washington (2003-05), which selected him in the second round (44th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft from the University of Florida.
In 56 career games (7 starts), Jacobs has totaled 37 receptions for 387 yards (10.4 avg.) with two touchdowns. He also owns 10 career special-teams tackles and three kickoff returns for 35 yards.
During the 2007 season, Jacobs saw time in 10 games, including six with the Broncos. He finished the year with three catches for 40 yards (13.3 avg.) with one touchdown and five special-teams stops.
A first-team All-Southeastern Conference pick and a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award (nation's best receiver) as a senior at Florida, Jacobs attended Florida A&M High School in Tallahassee, Fla. He was born on May 30, 1981.
Jacobs will wear jersey No. 9 for the Broncos.

I hate to see anybody go down
with a season-ending injury. I am not so sure Sheppard or Jacobs are just training camp fodder. They are both pretty accomplished, experienced players. Good luck Edell. I hope to see you next year.
