Lamont Jordon sticks it to Al Davis!
From the SF Chronicle (Courtesy, Yahoo Sports):
So, former Oakland Raiders running back LaMont Jordan got his wish — his release Friday — and signed with the New England Patriots. End of story, right? Wrong.
Keels said there was never a deal in place regarding Jordan going to the Patriots and that, once Jordan was released, it was Jordan's decision to go to New England. In the end, does any of this matter? Of course not. Jordan was free to sign anywhere he wanted, and was even granted permission to shop his services with a trade in mind while still on the Raiders roster. From the sounds of it, Jordan is going to get a serious chance to make the Patriots roster.
The reason? Davis felt burned by the Randy Moss trade last year, with the Patriots getting a record-setting season out of the wide receiver and the Raiders getting little-used draft pick John Bowie. They say Davis does not want to see Jordan experience a similiar renaissance that comes back and bites the Raiders, particularly when the Patriots visit The Coliseum on Dec. 14.
It seems Raiders owner Al Davis is none too happy about his signing with New England, according to two sources — one close to the team, another within the league. According to them, Davis told Jordan's agent, Alvin Keels, that he would only release Jordan if he didn't go to one of two teams. Team No. 1: the Denver Broncos, for the obvious reasons. Team No. 2: The New England Patriots, who Jordan signed with Saturday.
It just makes your heart smile, huh?
Of note is that the article mentions that the Broncos were supposed to be off the table too. No surprise there. What is surprising is that Davis doesn't understand why players have a "renaissance" when they leave the black hole. At any rate, I'll be cheering for Jordan in one game this year.

BURN.
That is awesome. LaMont Jordan just easily became one of my ten favorite current players, not including anyone on the Broncos, of course.

You know what is ironic....
we send many of our ex-players TO the Faders. Is this done by Davis on purpose just to aggrivate us? I’ve never understood why alot of our old players end up over there….

That's funny!
We didn’t need him, otherwise if it was LaMont’s goal to stick it to Al, he would have come here for a look at least. I think him sticking it to Al is just a bonus though. I don’t like the patsies, but they do have a good team, with a good chance to get back to the Superbowl – that probably drove his decision more.

Raider Fan
I’m glad we he is no longer a Raider. He was hurt too often. Plus Warren Sapp was quoted as saying Lamont Jordan was “the worst offseason running back I’ve been around he was out of shape and couldn’t keep it going.” I say good luck to the Pats with him because he has back issues.

Even better!
that he gets to stick it to Davis AND the pats.

Al
will have the last laugh when Jordan misses most of the season due to his bad back. I don’t expect him to have a Randy Moss awakening.

I don't
think he’ll be able to laugh too much with his bad back and all. As far as the Raiders are concerned we will be alright. Kiffin is moving us in the right direction.

i wouldnt say
the right direction, when your HC cant even fire his assistants its gonna be more of the same. The faders are in such turmoil. One person needs to be in charge of the team on the field and hsi staff. Al wont let that happen. Until that does and the faders quit overpaying for scrubs the faders wont change. But all the fader fans cant see the forrest thru the trees

Yes
I can see the forest thru the trees. I can also see how much of an impact Kiffin has made with this team. He has improved this offense alot. He is bringing a new attitude to the Raiders. You’re right a coach should be able to fire his assistants but he can’t control that. As Kiffin stated earlier this week ,”I go about and control what I can control and get us as good as we can get with what I can control.”

I agree with you Raider76
I actually like Kiffen, and think he’s a good coach (if Al Davis would just stay out of the way). But Al just can’t let his people run things.
FWIW, over at S&BP, I believe many of the commentators believe that the story about Al wanting to fire Kiffen was a media “conspiracy”.
Thanks for the terrific comments. Your posts are respectful and thought out, and I know many of us appreciate hearing from the other side.

Not a conspiracy
I can believe Al tried to fire Kiffin but Kiffin is young and hardheaded and refused to sign the resignation letter. Thank you and I appreciate the hospitality here at MHR.

do you have to sign a resignation letter to be fired?
What ? if al wanted to fire him he could-he would still have to pay his salary though—Big Deal . lol Did al and kiffin have the “old evil eye stare down” and kiffin won . I do like kiffin as a coach , I just dont like al as a owner .
