Report: Marshall Gets 4 Games
104.3 the Fan is reporting from Dove Valley that wide receiver Brandon Marshall suspended for 4 games. This is a huge blow to the Broncos, and in my opinion it makes the first 4 games of the season tough wins. This really sucks because I wanted to be at full strength for the Faders, and SD. He has been by far one of the best players in camp. Suck. So when do the Broncos start practicing without Marshall in the starting lineup? Thoughts…

According to 104.3...
a source “close to the situation” says Marshall will get “around 4 games”; but an official announcement will most likely not come until early next week.

Please...
Don’t write stuff like that down until your 100% sure, my heart stopped when I read that. I know he will get some type of suspension, but after reading about how you can do a hit an run and get no suspension, I am still keeping my fingers crossed!

Are you serious?
The radio reported a 4 game suspension, so I reported it and stated the source. Then they backed off of it and said "around 4 games", its not like I am making stuff up.

Word to the Wise
Anytime you see "REPORT" in front of the title it means it is being stated but is not confirmed….
And to back it up a bit, that is the feeling around camp…

TSG makes an excellent point.
I never majored in journalism, but did master in political science. Reading and disecting news reports are a crucial part of studying politics, and there are key terms in media usage that people should be aware of. Guru is correct (and by implication, so is Chi-Town).
The term “report” or “reports” means that information has been gathered about a situation. The veracity of that information is not assured. Had the title not preceeded by report, one of the editorial staff would have edited the posts title to correct the error.
I too was startled by the title, just as I would be if a report came out of Korea that the North had invaded. However, reports are indications, not hard news.

Not official
The Broncos say they have received no word on that front.

I would think an announcement is coming shortly
Commish’s office just suspended Chris Henry for 4 games following his 5th arrest. Gotta figure BMarsh’s decision should be coming up shortly….hoping it’s 2 games or less.

Reports and Reporters!
Thats the problem with these “reports” and reporters. They all want to be the first to break a story, so they make stuff up. Then it starts a fury of people wanting to confirm it. So then the team and coaches are further distracted with multiple questions, before anything official is ever released. Anyone angry with Marshall for hurting the Broncos, should be just as angry with the local Denver media, who disrupt the Broncos unnecessarily so.
If Marshall is suspended, it will be interesting to see if he and his lawyer appeal. Logic says he should. Depending on the detail and timetable of the appeal, it might delay things long enough to allow him to play the first two games, which would be better.

you said it!
Crap like this is so irritating. Cant the denver media leave this alone until there is an actual statement from Goddell? I dont know about all of you but I am so sick and tired of the media just looking for crap to spread. I get the “if it bleeds it leads” bs. It just makes me so friggin po’s

Now that I think about it....
Maybe the Fan confused this afternoon’s Chris Henry punishment announcement as Marshall’s punishment. Could be why they backed off. Who knows…..just wait for the official announcment while we continue to see the team come together at training camp.

that makes more sense...
and since it is Henry’s 2nd offense im surprised he only got another 4 game suspension! He was suspended last year as well.
by SoCalBroncos on Jul 31, 2008 4:35 PM MDT reply actions 0 recs
If Chris Henery only got four games
then B-Marsh better not be getting any more than 2, maybe even none, just probation and a warning.

exactly
And if M Lynch walks from his hit and run with no consequences, then anything over a 2 game suspension is just pure Goodell vendetta (see Travis Henry).
The commish has a score to settle.
Michael Fabiano really knows nothing about football outside of regression analysis and stat extrapolation. If it doesn’t have to do with fantasy football, his opinion is worthless.

I really believe
the commissioner is above vendetta. Let’s just hope Marshall has grown up and seen the light.

Henry and Lynch (M)
If Henry got 4 games and M. Lynch, who was drunk and hit a woman, then left the scene (I haven’t heard any dispute on the facts, regardless of the plea entered and the agreement on punishment), Marshall should get between a warning and a game suspended. But my concern has always been that there are no strict guidelines for this, so it’s pretty much up to Goodell, yes?

I am hoping
That his meeting with the Rog was a one more time and you will be suspended. Well thats my hope.
But we will see. I feel I am probably wrong, but I can hope. . .

I am also in this mode...hope hope hope...
I’m hoping that Rod’s presents at the meeting, and his reputation as a pure class act, helps Goodell handle this as a, “One more time and it won’t be a warning!” For some reason I (keep in mind that I am still in the la-la-land-of-pre-season-feel-goods) think Goodell is going to give Brandon one more chance.

I think we can all thank Brett Favre...
...for the decision taking so long. Originaly they said we should hear this past Monday or early this week. Now it sounds like they’re saying early next week. GOOD GRIEF!!!
by UnarmingMermaid on Jul 31, 2008 4:46 PM MDT reply actions 0 recs
it is up to Goodell.
but i’m hoping since Rod went with Marshall, he hopefully convinced Goodell to give him a stiff warning and no suspension…...(I HOPE)

Where there is smoke, there is fire
Be ready for a suspension in the neighborhood of 4 games guys. There is too much consistency with the reports, so ready yourselves for the worst.
And keep in mind, that in the long term, regardless of what is happening with other players, Marshall will probably benefit from being forced to take his future seriously.

However...
If the Broncs can get off to a solid start without BMarsh, imagine how much confidence they’ll have when Marshall is back in the lineup. I think the only game in the first four that I feel significantly worse about is the SD game without Marshall. I think the other three are still very winable…in fact, I still expect to win those games. Also, this could provide the opportunity for a coming out party for any number of talented receivers on the roster. Hey…there has to be some sort of upside here!

If or when we see a suspension...
I plan to have a story up about what the Broncos can do to mitigate the issue. Marshall is terrific, and we definately want him on the field. But there are several factors that can mitigate his absence, including how we match up with the first four teams that we play.
Our depth is awesome, our TEs are deep enough and skilled enough to pull coverage, and the game planning options we have are varied and solid. With the talent we have spread around the offense, one player won’t destroy the team.
I also agree with Styg. We can all love Marshall, but this is the cost of having a player who puts himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, and this is early enough in his career (and the season) to give him a fighting chance to decide to be more careful. I’m ok with whatever happens, but I’m pulling for Marshall to get past this and be a successful player and a successful man.

No cost yet
There is not cost, as of yet. Even if he is suspended, in the long run it could be a help (and thus a blessing) to both him and the Broncos.
I believe between Colbert, Jackson, Stokely, and Royal we got the WRs to cover for him. I even think Shanny will spread out Jackson for the big man catches Marshall makes.
At this point, this horse story has been so badly beaten dead, its like, “Whatever. Ain’t no big thing.” Like TSG has said, the facts being reported has prepared us for the worst.

Hey buddy!
You did your job. A station made a report, and you reported it. You made this clear by preceeding the title with “Report:”, and you named the source and what you had been told. You didn’t mislead, you only reported. You did fine.

I blame theat radio station
I am sure they were bombarded with calls wanting more info. Again this just adds to my disdain of the media. They are starting to get lazy, err… . . I mean even more so

Hey you guys!
I think we’ll know tomorrow, but I think Brandon is going to get, “the next time slap-on the wrist.” There must be a reason why Rod went as Brandon’s escort….this is not normal. Rod must have been there to ensure Goodell that Brandon will take the right road from here on out. I think Rod Smith has found a challenge greater than the NFL…....helping Brandon grow.

Guru reports from camp...
that the word floating around is four games. There might be something to that, but I kind of think he’ll get two games. Let’s hope you’re right!

there could be no better role model
than Rod for Marshall. if Marshall has any sense he will take as many pages as possible out of Rod Smith’s book.
