How come one of our rivals...
does not include the Cleveland Browns.
We played and beat them in the AFC championship 3 different times in a 3 years with 2 of them being historic games 86' and 87'. I know the must still hate us...John Elway and Co. I know that they are now the Baltimore Ravens whom we dont have too much success against... but now that Cleveland has the Browns again and they are good again i would love to have another rival added on whom would at least challenge us in a game.
I do believe that they are on our schedule this year....think the Old Dawg Pound has forgotten about us. Hopefully not...I like rivalries.....I know that the Old Browns still hate Elway and Co....
"We would have won 3 superbowls if it werent for the Broncos...the NFC didnt have anything on us...we just had to beat (the Broncos) and I would have 3 rings right now...the whole atmosphere here in Cleveland would be different if it had happened" - cant recall the name but I believe he was a DB for the Browns during those years.
By the way I love it when NFL Films replays old historic Broncos' Games...I always get like an (dont know how to describe it) an Awe feeling inside...dont know but I love it.....I heart the DENVER BRONCOS....my goodness I heart this SITE!!!

When they were replaying the game....
I saw a young slim fit Dennis Smith and it made me smile I hearted him too….of course STEVE ATWATER was my ALLTIME FAVORITE bronco and when it was him and D. Smith in the backfield together it was great…..I also caught a glimspe of T-Bone (Tyrone Braxton) he must have played like 15 years and was still productive in the late 90’s.

I think its
Because the Broncos own them. Denver hasnt lost to Cleveland since 1990. I think the Broncos are 16-5 and 3-0 in the playoffs against them. I think T-Bone was drafted by the Broncos in 1987.

Braxton has been productive
to this day. If you ever catch him on Fox Sports Rocky Mountain, he is still rocking the orange and blue.

The Problem with Cleveland is it is not really Cleveland
Cleveland went somewhere and something new became Cleveland. I almost wish ‘life-time’ contracts were still a part of sports teams. It would be so easy to know your team if this was true. The Cleveland we fought went somewhere…can’t hate the new Browns until we build a history. Cleveland went somewhere…I’ll hate them.

Right
The Browns we fought and owned are now the Baltimore Ravens. I don’t know why they didn’t stay our rival, especially after the Shannon Sharpe trade and when they beat us in the 2000 wildcard.

Not too me
See technically the Ravens are an expansion team. But too me they are not the Browns. I cant stand the Ravens. Especially Lewis and that @#$%^! Brian Billick (I know he is gone now). Plus to me Modell moved a team that had been in cleveland since 1946. Modell is clown also

I still feel ill...
when I think of the Sharpe drop. Now, when Shannon goes into the Hall, Elway will still be the only, ‘Bronco-entire-career’ in the Hall. What a shame.

So who can we develop a new rivalry with (outside of the division)
Based on the Broncos v Browns formula we need a good/great QB, coach, and city. I think the following are viable:
1. Brady/Bellicheat/New England (I think this one is prime now that we’re getting our house back in order)
2. Romo/Tubby/Dallas (could be if we somehow met them in the Super Bowl)
3. Big Ben/Dude from House/Pittsburgh (we’re more likely to play them often and typically have great games against them. Plus, Stillers fans are annoying)
4. Schaub/Kubiak/Houston (I think it’d would be great to develop some bad blood against Broncos South)
5. V-Young/Fisher/Tennessee (this one kind of works if Young can keep up with Cutler’s development. Draft class QB rivalries are always fun)
I wish Woody Paige was our coach!

I like how you didn't put Playboy Leinart in there.
I agree that Jay and Vince are exponentially better than that piece of trash, and his team is not worthy of consideration to be our rival. I’d also love to hate New England even more.

It was a conscious decision...
he’s done nothing to warrant it. Even though Vince isn’t as good as Cutler, at least he wins games.

Peyton and the Colts
The biggest non division rival has to be the Colts, haven’t we lost like 20 playoff games to them in the last 8 years.
When I think about the most painful plays of the past 10 years I count every play in the two Chargers games this last year, the 3 straight passes to Reggie Wayne while D-Will was held in a zone above his route, along with TD’s ACL pop, McCaffrey’s leg break, and Al’s neck when he hit Warren. So to me the Broncos biggest non division rivals are the Colts and injuries.

it would help
If the Broncos could beat Manning in a meaningful game first. I dont view anyone outside the AFC West a rival.

Kubiak?
Hard person (and therefore his team) to hate. I have this ‘hope-the-best-unless-it-hurts-us’ relationship, similar to the one I developed living in San Diego for a few years.
Dallas?
Despite the fact that Jerry is a ‘Darth-act’ in the making—I still remember Dandy Don Meredith and Bob Hayes. I can’t hate Dallas.
Tennesse?
Vince Young will be a really great athelete until someone takes out his knees. He will never be a great QB. I’m not worried about Tennesse.
New England?
Classless Bellicheat. I don’t really hate New England…but I could.
Pittsburgh?
I hate Pittsburgh. I really really hate the steelers. Goes back to ‘77 when Joe Green, after the play, placed his fist in one of our players gutt and took him down. I hate the steelers with a righteous hate. I even root for the faiders when they play Pittsburgh.
My vote Pittsburg. Let’s all hate Pittsburgh!

I could agree to that
Screw Mean Joe. I hated his Coke commerical. How could a thug like that who punched Paul Howard get a commercial? Plus I havent gotten over them beating the Broncos in 2005 title game.
Plus who can forget Terry Bradshaw talking crap about Elway in 1990 b4 the Super Bowl (#24)? Then that dude apologized before Denver won #33. Cuz Bradshaw was giving out the Lombardi and Rozelle throphies and Elway was gonna get them. (of course his apology was b4 the game. Still to this day i DONT like him)

A man willing to play back-up,
be there when he is needed, possibley one of the better QB’s in the league, and do it for us. Hard Man to hate, easy man to love, always hope the best.
Unless its against us.

Exactly!
I weren’t around when he played for us, but i have a feeling that he could have made it as a starter somewhere else – and still he didn’t.
I even have trouble hating him, when we play them – i actually like Kyle Shanahan too.

Kubes was the best as a back-up.
I’m not sure how well he would have done as a starter. However, he has proven he has the smarts and that is the primary ingredient to a winner. His athletic tools may have been average though.
If this be Hell, let us make the most of it!

Peyton is so
classy in this age of players being ME , ME , ME . Peyton works long and hard to be where he is today ( my opinion – the best quarterback in the league by far who will break all records while being very humble about it ) Peyton is a great role model for kids so if we can lets find another team easier to dislike – it probably wont be hard to find – just look for trouble makers, crybabies( rivers ) , or whiners and we have found a team to hate and be our rivals
by okiebroncosfan on Jul 9, 2008 10:01 AM MDT reply actions 0 recs
I hear you
I begrudgingly agree that Peyton, the QB who has our number, is a good person and a great football player, but I still want to beat the Colts just as much as I want to beat the raiders and the Chargers. Not because I have anything against the team, players, or city, but because they are the gold standard, they are the team to beat, and the team we havn’t been able to beat when we had to. On the same note the Patriots are the other team to beat, but they have been tainted by spygate, and we already have a strong record against the Patriots. Maybe its the part of me that usually roots for underdogs, but I am looking for the Broncos to beat the QB who can’t lose to them, the same way the Browns couldn’t beat John during the 80’s.

all things considered
i would love for the Broncos to beat Peyton and the Colts because that would show our team has progressed to the next level and if we can beat the Colts we are ready to whip some hiney in the Super Bowl, that being said I want our team to be as classy about winning as Peyton is , to become an example for other teams to look at and try to duplicate .

you are talking about the Manning
who thru is OL under the bus after the Steeler playoff game? That dude is a ME-ME-ME player as any of them. Its never his fault., If its a pick the WR ran the wrong route. Manning is a douche and I dont think he is classy at all. Maybe you should say Brady. Brady is way more classy than Manning
by broncfanstuckinsd on Jul 9, 2008 11:41 AM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
would you consider cutler wrong and not classy
for calling out marshall ( is that considered throwing him under the bus ? ) sometimes the team leader needs to call out someone and other times shut up. we all make mistakes and i am sure Peyton would change a few things if he could BUT please Brady- I think I am going to be sick
by okiebroncosfan on Jul 9, 2008 11:50 AM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
Ya but
What JC did was not after a play in a playoff game. Calling a teammate out for off the field behavior is one thing calling out players for on the field is worse. Fine I dont care if you dont like Brody but I have never seen or heard him call out any teammate. I stand by what I said until you or anyone can prove me wrong!!

after al disapointing loss
they shove a mike in Peyton’s face and he said something he would probably take back – i am sure his emotions were out of control at that point ( who’s wouldn’t be ) i guess only henry gets in trouble or called out for having illegitmate children ? not brady

well one vs nine
Plus Manning was in a presser after the game. He had time to shower and change clothes. So I am still correct. Hate brady honestly I dont care it doesnt change the fact what he said. After the Charger game last season when he thru 6 picks he blamed his WR’s for running wrong routes. Oh, I bet that was the reports fault for shoving a microphone in his face also, right. The Good Marshall
I may not be much company but I also like Brandon. I hope when he gets suspendid for 4 games this year that he stays close to Dove Valley. If he stays out of trouble-he will mature.
I would hate to see him play for anyone other than us-what a nightmare. He is special! He is a bigger faster stronger, and just as fun and mouthy, Shannon Sharpe in the making.
I’ll believe in the Good Marshall until the Bad Brandon brings the Marshall down.

His other incidents are more serious and will be handled by Shanny or Goodell if needed.

Hold it right there!
Remember the 2007 divisional playoff game against the Chargers? Rookie Tony Ugoh got beat badly by Marry-man for a crucial 4th down sack, that essentialy put an en to the Colts campaign. His words on the bench 30 seconds later to Ugoh was (if my memory surf me well): “Shake that off all right… Don’t think about it – just shake it off. We’ll need you out there.” Now thats classy.
Brady, i think, is pretty classy – but then again – it’s easy being classy when you are winning! Although i can’t stand the fact that he, because of losing SB, stays away from the pro bowl. I don’t know how common that is among suoer bowl losers – but it sure doesn’t signal that HumblePie they like so much up there i Boston.

Non Divisional Rivals are always temporary.
In the 70’s we were rivals to the vaunted Steelers. In the 80’s it was the Browns. In the 90’s it Buffalo early on and then the Jaguars. In the early 2000’s we were rivals with the Ravens. Nowadays it seems our main non divisional rivals are the Patriots and Colts, although the Jaguars should rank highly on that list as well.

It is to them
Maybe not so much from our side, but trust me, Browns fans who remember pretty much hate us.
It’s funny you mention this today. At Subway yesterday, the guy at the register (who looked a bit older, like the owner/manager), gave me some mild crap about my Broncos hat. Said “What, the Broncos are still playing?”. Then he said he had the right to give me crap because he’s a Browns fan.
We talked for 5 minutes or so on Jake Plummer, Jay Cutler, Derek Anderson, and Brady Quinn while people checked out.
Nice guy, just giving me grief, but it actually reminded me that those Browns fans have to still be living in agony whenever they see us. I know I would.

I was on a ship
and worked with a Browns fan in 1988-89. We were good friends but he HATED the Broncos and especially Elway. He also cheered at the end of 88 season when Marty was fired. He blamed him for the 2 AFC title game losses. He left before Denver beat Cleveland in the 89 AFC title game. Awww Browns fans they are so cute by trying to bag on Broncos

Personally
I kind of relish the fact they hate the Broncos so much. If you ever listen to Fox sports radio this dude Andrew Sicilliano (sp) (also sometimes a fill in for Rome) he thoroughly hates the Broncos. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. My favorite 2 statements are: the drive and the fumble.

I agree with Jibbons
It’s like pulling teeth trying to beat the Colts. And, it’s kind of strange, they’re an easy team to like. But, please…...let’s beat them at some point. I would say they’re the biggest rival, but we have to win at least a game, before they are considered a ‘rival’. Unfortunately, that seems to be a very tall order.

Thanks
I don’t think we need to win a big game against them first, in fact it is because we haven’t won a big game against them that I feel they are such big rivals. How many years were the Broncos fodder for the Raiders before the tide turned? For me one of the biggest parts of the Raiders rivalry has been Shanahan’s efforts to correct the W/L ratio with them. I like the idea of pinning a great team as THE team you want to beat. I want to see the Broncos beat the Colts in the playoffs nearly as much as I want to see them win the Super Bowl. They are the one team that has truly had our number consistently over the past decade (maybe the ravens as well), to be a great team, the Broncos will have to beat the great teams. NE’s off our list, so naturally Indy should be next in line.
