Why did we let Hixon go?
Don't know if anyone is watching the Giants v Browns game, but Dominik Hixon is signal handley destroying the Browns, three TD (two catches and a run back on a KO), I really don't know how we could of let him go, maybe it is what he needed mentally, but would be nice to have as a 4th WR with B. Marshall, Royal, Stokely. Of course it is preseason, but if I am the Browns, I would be worried, granted the Giants are the world champs, but Cleveland is getting hammered by a signal player, Hixon.

It's best not to think about it...
Hixon was mentally fried with us and really didn’t hit his stride with the Giants until late last season/playoff run. Hindsight’s 20/20. It’s best to think happy thoughts about Royal. :^)

His fumble/TD in the first SD game, which put them up 14-0 like 5:00 into the game..and was essentially the catalyst to them getting their season going.. and us getting smoked in the process.. If memory serves he was out the door pretty quick after that.
Hindsight indeed. Just goes to show that we ought to hang on to the guys who shine in camp/ps -Alridge & Woodyard come to mind -cuz if we let em go they’ll be shining somewhere else.
Peace!

im not even defending him
But if you think for one second what happend in Buffalo didnt affect him then I really dont know what to say to you. Its is not a coincidence he played better for NYG AFTER Everett started to walk again

I agree . . .
A change of scenery did Hixon well to get over the Everett thing. Staying in Denver might have stagnated his closure emotionally. After all, we know how the Denver local media can pick at something until it bleeds. If Hixon stayed in Denver, chances are reporters would bring it up every time they talked to him. Going to NY allowed him to just forget about it. So we did him a favor letting him go. Plus we might not have drafted Royal if Hixon was still with us.

Best to wish him the best of luck, and just cut your losses
If nothing else, the drafting of Hixon shows that the Broncos were starting to properly identify the right WRs. Come to think of it, Marshall in the 4th and Royal in the 2nd is starting to make up for the previous 8 or 9 dysfunctional WRs the Broncos drafted.

I just got the count
it was 11.
Unless you are saying that it ONLY makes up for 8 or 9 and the other 2 are unforgivable. :)

My angst comes from trying to decide which 2 are unforgiveable.
This type of a question might deserve a poll, but it is probably better to let bad drafts blow away like dust in the wind.

I am requesting an exception to only drafted WRs.
Eddie “Quitter” Kennison was not a Denver draftee, but his lack of team integrity was astonishing. If he can’t get back into the NFL he should audition for a spot on Bobby Petrino’s staff. Birds of a feather should stick together.

I was more disappointed in how we treated Brian Clark...

I agree to a point
I’ll preface this by saying that Brian Clark went to my college, and I have actually met him in person several times, so I may be a bit biased in saying that I wish we’d given him more of a chance.
We really didn’t give him much of a chance to succeed, as almost all of the times i recall him being thrown to (even in the preseason), they were balls that even B-Marsh would have had trouble catching (I specifically recall one instance where ramsey almost one-hopped a ball to him and subsequently started yelling at him for not making a spectacular diving catch). Also, our kick/punt blocking was down-right atrocious last season, which certainly didn’t help him on the returns.
With that said, however, I can’t hold his cut against Shanahan. When you fumble the football, you don’t last long in the NFL, regardless of who you are, and that is something that Clark did a few too many times. Sure, he got lit up, but for a player that has such a borderline status you have to find a way to hold onto the football… Also, we don’t know what was happening in practice, etc, and those sort of factors can contribute quite a bit (though i doubt his work ethic was a problem, as he was always one of the hardest workers on the team in college).

When he was here
Im not expert but i watched him when he was here some, a guy i know from another forum was a huge fan, and he told us to watch him. But when he was here he seemed to not return punts well. He would go side to side way too much. I dont think he would have done what he has done in NY here.

i hate when people say o why did we let hixon go because first of all if you watched any broncos games last year you know and i know hixon was doing bad. why did he decide to get good after he went to the giants? we all dont know.Plus, if hixon was a good returner when we had him, we would had never got royal

Hixon...
…got a little gun shy after the first game in Buffalo, altho he shouldn’t have – the injury to Everett was totally not Hixon’s fault. But he needed a time out, and Shanahan figured he’d get trhough waivers, and then we’d put him on the PS for awhile. But the Giants snapped him up.

If I remember correctly
Cleveland’s defense isn’t much to write home about.
Didn’t they give up 5 or 6 TDs in game 2 last year to Cincy? Yes, that was last year, but have they done anything to improve on that?
Finally, didn’t they lose their #1 CB during OTAs?
I agree that Hixon needed the change of teams to shake the Everett thing (even though it was not his fault, it still has to wear on you) and given that our blocking on returns was atrocious, I’m not surprised he did better as a returner in New Jersey.

Cleveland....
…traded with Green Bay for the Packers DT Corey Williams, who the packers had franchised. Then they picked up DT Shaun Rogers from Detroit (Broncos made a play for him). Rogers is very good when he wants to be, but can be a slacker. Browns so far are supposed to be pleased with him. They drafted an ILB in the 4th and a Dt in the 6th.

Somewhat agree
They were supposed to have upgraded on D-fense this year and Hixon was basically the No: 1 WR in the game, Plaxico sat out. My comment was more geared about the seemingly lack of player development lately, Rod Smith is a great example of someone that they groomed for two to three years and then allowed him to develop, seems like we have this idea that if they fail in two years, then cut him.

Hixon
I wish we had the time and patience to let him develop. The guy has some mad skills. But on the other hand his game was lost after Buffalo. No ever knows with a situation like that if they will get back mentally. But he has and I wish him the best. Just had hoped he could have done it here in Blue and Orange..
