Shanahan declares: "We Will Not Miss the Playoffs"
http://broncotalk.net/2008/08/shanahan-we-will-not-miss-the-playoffs/
Denver Broncos Head Coach Mike Shanahan appeared on FM 104.3 The Fan in Denver Friday morning and said, emphatically, "We will not miss the playoffs." Not only did he assure fans that the Broncos were playoff-bound, but he went on to say (paraphrasing), "We will do something special once we’re there."
That sounds like a guarantee to me fellas. I do look at the schedule and I can see as many as 13 wins and as few as 9 so it could happen.
Thoughts?

I will form my opinion after the Dallas pre-season game!
I want to see the O-line and D-Line in game situations before I declare 13-3 or even 10-6. What I will swear to is that the year will be interesting. Good on Coach Shanahan.

This is so out of character for Shanahan...
I have to wonder in the Denver heat streak has finally fried his brain.
Not that I think they won’t/can’t make the playoffs…but I don’t ever recall hearing something even half that audacious come out of Shanny’s mouth.
Of course, as a Broncos fan, I like the confidence…and hope that he is right (from both a mental and accuracy perspective).

Totally Out of Character
And…I don’t think that it’s warranted. I hate to say it…but I like the Patriot’s humble approach. I want to take this season one game at a time and that’s it. Playoffs and other things will take care of themselves once we start focusing and winning games.
We got smoked last year. A LOT. So let’s turn it around one game at a time. And then I’ll talk playoffs.

If you think NE is humble. . .
asked the question and it was answered. Believe it or not NE has not been the straw that stirs the drink all that long. But if you think emmulating a team that gets by on cheating more power to ya. I like how Shanny runs this team and the confidence he has in it. I can remember it was either 2003 or 2004 and Denver 3-0, and in the presser he was asked how good the Broncos were, and he said not as good as our record (i am paraphrasing).

He felt this way in 1996 and 2005
When he really feels good about his team he will say something. Plus when he comes out and says that I believe that he has assembled a good to great team. Watchout out AFC

The thing was
I felt it back then too, but what I’m feeling now is different…
It is still the really good feeling, but it doesn’t seem like it did then. Then it really felt like “Championship or bust.” Now it feels like we are on the verge of a dynasty or something, more of the early rumblings of something with some long term greatness to it.
Logically I have to say wildcard contender with a chance to make some noise, and one heck of a future if we stay healthy. The difference between ‘96 and now is that, emotionally, I would say the same thing I am saying logically.

Styg dropped the D-word! Better kick it off with a great ‘08 season!

Styg, for some reason I have the same feeling...
None of our young players seem to be anything other than special. If our offensive line melds, we have one of, if not the best, offense we’ve ever had….and they are young. I think Shanny sees something that he hasn’t seen for a while-a lot of tallent that gets along. Our defense still has some questions as to who will start-and where—but if they meld early we go from a very good team to a great team.

I think a lot of us feel that this team has something special.
Most of our worries are on defense, specifically DT and LB. If we are owning the TOP and consistently ahead in points it sure makes the job of the defense easier. Sometimes I am ready to join Mike Clark and Zappa in la-la land. Speaking of Zappa, where has he been?

IMO
This could be a second great run in Denver history. The first was 83-98, and this one could be 06-??. It could all be related by the fact there is a good/great person behind center

That clip makes me laugh
I am glad that Shanahan feels confident in the team so far however I’ll at least wait to see what we do in the preseason. I mean I want to see a solid improvement on defense…...especially run-defense.
