Rivalries, Fans and Smack Talk - A Guide To Getting Along On MHR
First, a welcome to all Broncos fans and fans of other teams who will be visiting this site over the next few months as we head into the 2008 season. This site, after all, is a Denver Broncos fan site, but that doesn't mean we don't welcome and encourage input from fans of other teams, even those who root of the Raiders, Chagers and Chiefs. That said, I want to lay down some ground rules for both sides. Think of this as a guide as to what will keep opposing fans out of trouble and what Broncos fans on this site should expect.
1. Keep It Business, Never Personal - This is the most important rule. So important, in fact, I am going to post it twice. I am all for good natured smack talk about each others team's, players, logos, colors, cheerleaders, cities, etc. What I do not want to see are personal attacks at specific people on this site, either "friend or foe". This site was founded on the premise that it would be a safe haven for positive talk and comment about the Broncos and NFL in general. I want to keep it that way. Have an opinion, debate, disagree and move on. DO NOT ATTACK ANYONE ON THIS SITE or you will get banned. If you want to have flaming wars with other fans there are plenty of message boards that can help you with that.

2. Keep The Smack Talk In Fan-Posts - The Fan-Post section is for you, the fans. If you want to come over and talk some trash during the season that's fine, just keep it over here. Some visitors to the site simply want to talk about the broncos and not get involved with fans from other teams. They need to be able to have a choice in the matter. Comments within posts on the Front Page are to remain on-topic. Use the Fan-Posts to create Smack-Talk posts and comments. This goes for fans of both sides. Again, refer to Rule #1. Personal Attacks in either location will not be tolerated.
Now, that doesn't mean a rival fan cannot comment in a Front Page post. Feel free. Just keep it on topic with the post and above the belt.
See, that wasn't so bad!! I want this site to have fun this season, and I think the interaction between fans provides an excellent opportunity for conversation and debate. Just try and keep it clean and never, ever, ever let it get personal! If anyone has any questions or comments about this policy, please email me -- milehighreport@gmail.com

I will be asking my readers to show the same respect that MHR have shown AP readers.

AP is a good site with good fans.
Keep up the good work! I enjoy reviewing other teams’ long term strategies and trends.

Well Said!
Just because you can’t physically see the people you are talking too, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t show a little respect!!!

If anyone wants to see how it should be done, check out my recent post on Silver and Black Pride.
I talked smack, but I also tried to remain objective and respectful. Yes I hate the faders, but that doesn’t give me the right to attack them on a personal level. Besides, I like Saint on a personal level…I won’t go poop on his website ever…not matter how much his readers irk me.

I wrote this in about 15 minutes, so don’t get the idea that I spent all this time on them. I gave them props for beginning to pull themselves out of the gutter, but I also talked a little smack. To me, that’s how it should be done.
In any case, I’m more concerned with tonight. I LOVE THAT FOOTBALL IS BACK!!!!!!! I hate the offseason….I need, want, and crave football….yes!

Smack on other sites is lame.
I will have no trouble following the rules here at MHR. As TSG is right , there are other sites where you can get personal.
But personally, I think talking smack on other team’s fan sites is lame. Why can’t people just enjoy their own team’s journey, instead of trying to rub-in or one-up other fans from other teams?
Of course, people who do talk smack at other sites, are usually just trying to get a reaction. So if we can’t flame then, then lets all just totally ignore them.

I can't say I disagree....
But I have found the most fans of other teams are respectful and just want to talk football with other fans. It is one or two idiots that spoil the bunch. I just want everyone to know the groundrules, and provide a platform is people do want to talk a little trash. For those that don’t, there is a place for them too…

Call me lame then.
I try to expand my horizons. I’ve found when one looks inward at all times becomes quite delusional about their own team.

Talking football versus smack.
I don’t know if I was calling Zappa lame. I did not visit your link, but my guess is you like to talk football on other sites, which is different than talking smack.
To me talking smack is disrespect to begin with, and is not based on specific dialogue and analysis. Smack is simply to humiliate or upset others. That is what I think is lame.

I was just messing with you. ;)
Lame or not, I’m gonna do my thing. I’ve only taken smack talk personally twice…once with a Raider fan and once with a Chiefs fan… I’m much more even tempered now I think..

The Jets guy was inactive for a long long time.
Not sure if SB Nation finally got rid of it.

Not at all.
You and Raiderpete may have just reminded Guru about something he wanted to rehash when the season got closer. I know for a fact this was discussed months ago and the plan was to set some “guidelines” about how we as Bronco fans should treat other SB Nation members. If anything, you helped us remember to do that. ;)
In any case, the point is that we have our Bronco haven here…but we are all encouraged to visit and interact with other sites(if thats your thing as is the case with me). Talk smack, but also try to remember you’re talking to real people. I enjoy talking smack…just not all the time. lol I’m going to keep it cool until the week before the game. Win or Lose I won’t go over to Silver & Black Pride and talk smack and rub anything in their faces…but before hand its all in good fun. :)
I’m babbling…good at it too, but I must move on. lol

guidelines is a bad word...more like suggestions.
Our hope is that Bronco fans show class wherever they go…from experience I’ve noticed we do. I toe the line more than most. ;)

I've had to learn to separate the fader fans in real life from those on SB Nation...
I had one a-hole nearly hit me with his car because I was wearing an Elway jersey…I think I dented his trunk though when I slammed my fist on his car. I probably lucked out twice that day since there were two guys in the car and just me and a cop turning into the parking lot. lol
Either way, a-holes come in all shapes and forms and fandoms.

I wish TSG
would have out with this after that KC troll came over and tried to start a flame war. I have generally enjoy fans from other sites, they seem mostly good and repsectfull. If they all could be like Dabolt there would never been a need for a post like this

I just felt like
When someone breaks into your home and wants to hurt your family…you have to stand up and protect them.
Thats what i feel like when people from other teams talk smack on this site.
So i have to get back at them to protect my Mile High Family.

I think they know when they come over here they are entering the wolves den.
Most of the time its all in good fun. Other times it can be a huge hassle. And the line is very easy to cross. lol I wouldn’t take any of it personal and just talk it up right back…but don’t let it degenerate into something where it gets to a personal level.
Of course, I will probably eat my own words here sometime during the season….Guru’s had to slap me down a few times. Sort of like a rabbid dog on a short leash.

It saves a lot of hassle in the end.

Tommy
This IS your home, and we ARE your family. Try not to take anything from trolls personaly, but heck, when the bad guys come over and make it personal it’s understandable to be a little defensive.
That’s why this law abiding home (MHR) carries a handgun. It’s called “the editors”. If you need us, flag an offending comment and e-mail us. There’s almost always a warning; but if Guru decides that a home invasion is in progress, then he can bring it to a definitive end.

One thing I like about this site
is the intelligent, mature way people discuss issues. I get onto those football message boards, and it seems some punk kid who still lives with his mother and has entered all of 20 posts has to try to get you into a pissing contest when all you have done is offered an opinion.
I just have the highest compliments for the posters here. Kudos to you!!
