Jason Elam

He was a great kicker for us but i think we might have made the right decision in letting him go. I am watching the Titans/Falcons game on NFL Network and he missed a 33 yard FG. I dont think he has the ability anymore. His stats arent that impressive from the preseason. Also i was reading the game review from NFL.com and i noticed this fact.

Smith didn't send kicker Jason Elam on the field for a potential tying 39-yard field goal attempt.

Maybe it is nothing and im sure coaches down want OT in a preseason game but it seems suspicous to me. Please feel free to blast me but i just wanted to mention it. And dont get me wrong, Jason was a great kicker, but no one lasts forever.

I agree

Prater may end up the season with a lower FG per centage than Elam, but I bet it won’t be by much. and maybe more important, we no longer have to carry two kickers because Elam can’t kick off

I couldn't agree more...

I love the guy, and he’ll look great in orange in the HOF, but I was nervous last year on anything longer than 42, and wouldn’t be surprised to see him taper badly and lose his job before the season’s out.

Elam for HOF

He has many accomplishments that make him worthy of consideration.

Obviously, the 63 yard FG.
Sixth all-time in points scored (behind M. Andersen, G.Anderson, G.Blanda, M.Stover, J.Carney) which isnt a bad list.
Fifth in FG made
Seventh in FG Att
Twenty-second in All-Time Accuracy, however, most guys above him have played much less time.
*Kaeding is #1, only been playing since 2004.

More of his accomplishments are listed here.

I just don't think kickers are worthy of HOF. There is only like 1 in the hall right?

Elam is certainly deserving of the Ring of Fame though.

I AGREE

kickers and punters should get into the HOF just like you and me, by going thru the fron door. I like ELam, but he is only a KICKER

kickers should be allowed to go into the

soccer hall of fame only… :)

seriously?

I completely disagree. Kicking is a part of the game, end of story. People like to make fun of kickers, but they are a part of the game, they’ll always be a part of the game. If you’re one of the best of all time at your position, whatever that position is, I say you get in.

i'm not saying i don't disagree with you, but the simple fact is....only one kicker has ever made it into the hof.

Except

Kickers dont belong in the Hall. Thats is why there are zero punter and on Jan Stenerud of the Chefs. When Stenerud retired he was #2 scoring kicker in the history of the game.
Ask any pro football player and they all think and will say kickers are a necessary evil

I loved Elam

And if you think about it, we’d have like only 3 or 4 wins without him last year. I don’t think he’s lost it but I do think he’s being waaaay overpaid.

Jules: Tell 'em, Vincent.
Vincent: A (Eddie) Royal with cheese.
Jules: A (Eddie) Royale with cheese! You know why they call it that?
Brett: Because of the metric system?
Jules: Check out the big brain on Brett! You're a smart mother******. That's right. The metric system.

you know

That is such a tired and inaccurate arguement. If Elam did not miss TWO Fg’sat Buff he would not have had to run out on the field to win the game, OT comes down to the eniter team getting in position to winn with a FG.

Love Elam but the time was right to let him go

Elam is the greatest kicker Denver has ever had, but his leg strength is 60% of what it used to be. He is still very good inside 45 yds, but you really need someone who can kickoff and get touchbacks and make the 50 yd + licks, I think Prater gives us that. Which saves a roster spot for someone else, I hated seeing a kick off specialist.

Mixed Feelings

Elam was so darn consistent. How many game winners did he hit for us last year?

On the other side, he was a liability on kickoffs. And that is a big part of the game.

And I think that Exceptional Kickers should be allowed in the HOF. How do you define Exceptional? I don’t know. But I don’t think that they should be disallowed based on position. They should at least have the opportunity.

kickers

i also am feeling a little better regarding this move now, and that has to do with the potential of prater. i like what i see, we’ll better know after his first season. regarding the hof, i thinks elam deserves to be in, and so does (i hate to mention it), ray guy. they were both integral in the success of their teams for a long period of time, and among the best ever at their position. that to me is deserving

Question about Jason not kicking

Hello dbroncos78087:

You posted:

What time in the game did this happen? Coaches do not want to risk overtime in the pre-season.

Victor Frankl:

What man actually needs is not a tensionless state but rather the striving and struggling for some goal worthy of him. What he needs is not the discharge of tension at any cost, but the call of a potential meaning waiting to be fulfilled by him.

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.
