Chargers Taking Practice VERY seriously...
http://www.chargers.com/news/headlines/turner-moves-practice.htm
Ah to be in the NFL. Multi-million dollar contracts, endorsements and, of course, getting practice off so you can go to the WATER PARK! Woohoo!
Every day when the Chargers start their team meeting, at least one voice from the offensive line suggests that Head Coach Norv Turner take the team to a water park. It became a running joke … until today. Thursday morning when the team gathered for their 8 a.m. meeting, rather than watching film and speaking X’s and O’s, Turner canceled the meeting as well as the team’s 9 a.m. practice and told them to get on the bus.
As soon as Turner made the announcement, his players erupted in cheers and ran out of the meeting room. They spent roughly an hour and a half riding water slides and tube rides and enjoyed the wave pool at Knott’s Soak City in Chula Vista.
Maybe Merriman tore those knee ligaments from running from the wave pool to the lazy river...

Well, in a way this shows the team is loose and tight knit.
Then again, why do these guys not take their job more seriously? Oh yea, Norv Turner is their coach and he is a players coach…which is why the Chargers will not be championship contenders…

Wade and Norv
How thankful we should be for them—the future is bright.

I was just saying
Its cool. I liked it too. But doesnt other teams do this kind of thing also? Not even trying to back up the Chargers. But when I was growing up in denver the Broncos would go to water world every year also. (Thats where I met Stee Watson)

I was just messing around
No when I was in High School the Broncos woudl rent our Elitch Gardens/ Elitches (after the six flags buyout) and invite all high school football programs to come out. usually you would get to chat with guys on the second and third team, but it was justa day to relax and have fun for them and be involved in the community of Denver!

the old Elitchs
Is the new one better? I went to it the last time in 1987. Me and 3 girls. Man those days rocked.

The new one was alright until six flags bought it and turned it into a marketing frenzy!

i dunno about that
I am a nuggie fan, and the worse the other teams are in the conf the better chance denver has to make it as a 7th or 8th seed and lose in the first round

cedar point >>> six flags any day
Not sure if you guys have heard of this place being out west and all, but it’s the best amusement park ever. In fact, I just got back from it this weekend!

Good call!
Cedar Point has about half of the roller coasters holding records at a given time, and few people seem to know about the place.

I live an hour east of there,
in the Cleveland area, and have been once. I’ve also only been to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and Pro Football Hall of Fame once each. It’s funny how tourist spots seem less interesting when they’re close by, I guess.

ha... true... like what Navy Pier is for me here in Chicago
But I used to live in Columbus (about 2 hrs from Sandusky) and oh man, did I always look forward to our yearly summer trips to Cedar Point. Granted, I was 16-18 years old back then, but still… ;)

Navy Pier is a great spot too!
Spent my honeymoon in Chicago, and most of our time in and around the pier. (Shedd Aquarium, shopping the Miracle Mile, and eating at many of the fine resteraunts in town). It was a great time (and bitterly cold)!

Okay...
I hate the Chargers, but the image of a bunch of grown men cheering and running off to the water park is really kind of cute.
Almost to the point of not giving a flying fart....

Hey, I'm a girl
I see things differently. :-P Although I feel pretty bad for the poor kids who got scared by the Chargers galumphing around the joint.

Not to mention the childish nature of the team...I am sure they made fun of and bullied
all the 3-9 year olds in the place. They didn’t mess with the 10 and up kids because the Charger players would have been out smarted and made to look foolish…

They probably had the defensive and offensive tackles chase everyone out.
Just so they would be the smartest people at the water park. :-P

That's a very funny story!
Still, I don’t begrudge a team for loosening it up a little. It can be great for morale.

Going to an amusement park would be a good idea for the Broncos
at least that would minimize the chance of getting more injuries.
by Arctic Bronco on Aug 25, 2008 11:40 PM MDT reply actions 0 recs
I would of hated to be a the park that day
Nothing against the idea, but the thought of having to deal with 325 lb body surfers in the wave pool would not of been much fun for the rest of the people there.
