Simms for back-up QB
Seems everyone wants to ride Patrick Ramsey out on the nearest railroad (myself included), and it looks like Chris Simms will be cut by Tampa Bay by Saturday. Would it be worth Denver signing Simms to back-up, I assume he is somewhat familiar with our system since they run something similar in Tampa Bay, and I know Simms is thought highly of by Shannan since I think Kyle Shannan and Chris Simms were roomates at Texas. I haven't been overly impressed with Chris Simms development, but maybe with some coaching from Shannan he can resurect his career here.

Why not
Couldn’t be worse than Ramsey. But I do think we need a quality backup.

What about....
Daunte Culpepper.
He would be a great back up for us.
Waht do you think?

I have saying that for a long time, but seems like Culpepper has been blackballed

Culpepper wants starter money
he is not willing at this point to take any less , his agent thinks that some team will need his services and be willing to PAY for them soon , I heard it on Sirius radio.

dont forget
He played with Kyle Shanahan at Texas, ans Shanny wanted him out of college. But would he do that? Cut Ramsey and bring in a guy with zero experience in the Denver offense?

knowing the system important
I’d say no at this point in the season. Ramsey knows the system and the team, Simms is not good enough to overcome that. Ramsey sucks, but it’s too late to bring in a new QB this year.

I think the Tampa System is real similar to Denver minus the zone blocking
Gruden runs a west coast offense with more of a strait power running game, but I think Simms could pick it up. I really don’t see the downside, with Ramsey we know we a screwed if Jay goes down, Simms is an unknown at this point, but I am not really worried about the back-up QB playing a lot, I think Jay is durable and the O-line should do a better job protecting him this year.

I don't think TB had a pass tat went for over 10 yards in the air
The 2008 TB-offense was the most boring thing ever! And frankly, i dont think the two systems resembles each other all that much…

How about cut hackney
and bring in Simms?
Cons: lose a roster spot since Hackney is still PS eligible and is only useful as a 3rd stringer, lose a dynamic type of athletic player, with a lot of previous investment, simms isn’t a sure thing
Pros: Would have a truly viable 3rd QB, even if it costs a roster spot, potential for cutting Ramsey at any point in the future, even after only four or five weeks of the regular season, actual pressure on Ramsey for earning and keeping the backup spot
Thoughts?

Me too. Plus, I don't know if Simms has the mobility to play for Denver. If our QBs can't
do rollouts and bootlegs, our offense becomes very limited. Maybe I am wrong and Simms does have mobility, but I would still prefer to develop Hackney. He has a tough, gamer look to the way he played last night, plus I am a purist when it comes to strong armed QBs.

Simms isn't very good
I guess for me, the only reason to dump a crappy backup this close to opening day is if someone pretty decent is available. I don’t see Simms changing the fact that we are seriously screwed if Cutler goes down, so why bother? Adding him as a 3rd QB is the only way to do it I think. He won’t be ready for opening day to be the sole backup.

I'd say no Styg.
Hackney seems viable enough. Ramsey definately has to go. I could even see bringing in Sims, but not at the cost of Hackney. I think Hackney can keep us in games where Cutler left and we had a lead, but can’t keep us afloat for several games. Ramsey has become a total dud. Sims is a question mark, but I think it’s late in the game to bring him in.
If we had to cut someone, I’d be fine with Sims. But Hackney seems to be the wrong guy to take the axe.

Simms was good...
before he got injured. If I remember correctly Simms played really well before his health became a concern. I would for one welcome simms to come in as a backup. Of course he be behind hackney at first till he was able to understand the system and learn the playbook. I think that would be a great idea. Ramseys problem is that he telegraphs all of his passes which could mean hes not going thru his progressions too well…there is nothing worse than a qb staring down a wr and not progressing to his other options.

After last night's game I'm going to say....
Hackney for backup QB!

you've got to be kidding
For starters, Simms never really was that good. Then he got a big contract with Tampa because he was starting. He still wasn’t that good and TB was trying to find a starter while he filled in.
Problem is, that Simms thinks he really is that good. He knows for sure, just ask his Daddy. Papa will definately tell you that junior is a top 5 QB in this league. Simms is the last thing we need.
Dump Ramsey and bring back Hackney.
