2008 Hall of Fame Game
August 3, 2008
Fawcett Stadium - Canton, OH

Sure, it's not the Broncos, but it is NFL Football and that is good enough for me!  Talk about the game, how glad you are that it is back and break down Jim Sorgi's performance with the Colts' first-teamers.

You can follow along with a couple of SBNation's best bloggers as well.

Is the game on TV?

And if so, where? I was gonna watch Sunday Night Baseball, but if this is on instead…

Randle El

tore up the colts secondary, but now the colts are just slowly bleeding the skins dry

Nice to see Colt Brennan

with an impressive first few plays. And the touchdown pass was good too.

Gary Zimmerman's

being interviewed right now. I’m sure that he’ll always be asked about including the Dalai Lama in his speech.

and now on to Farve!

I am irritated

that they keep cutting to a bunch of Cheeseheads with nothing better to do than wave at Favre’s plane. I think Aaron Rodgers must be in the crowd with a sniper rifle.

I said something similar last night

I was doing the play by play of the plane taxiing and said “BOOM, the plane blows up and Aaron Rodgers is seen slinking off stage right”

With a free safety right up the middle

whose inability to jump high enough saved Colt from an INT. But I’m enjoying this debut—Brennan has a good battlefield voice.

I like our Alanna Rizzo, though. She’s the only one who doesn’t strike me as an intolerable bimbo put there only for occasional eye candy and stupid questions.

Q B

I would doubt if Washington keeps three QB’s. Ramsey sure doesn’t look that good. I wonder…

I have but a handful of weeks before the la-la-land-of-pre-season-feel-goods is no more..

The most scary thing is in a few weeks I have to accept reality…’What is that?’ Most of you have been on this off-season quest…are you ready?

Can Clady start, I think yes. Will he dominate…probably not at first…but in la-la-land he will. Have we made the right moves? I can’t think-even going thirty years back-that I have seen an influx of tallent better than what has just happened.

Can Eddie Royal play? I haven’t been this excited since Upchurch. Most of you guys never saw Upchurch…...He was a Hester, on a so-so-team, and very much special.

Is Brandon special? If you think not can you say dUUUHHH duu duhh ummm doouu.

Football again begins.. I am already feeling the pull of reality trying to bring me back from la-la-land.

Not yet….but I’m getting close.

I left the game for a bit.

It is now finally over. Did you see anybody we could use? There were four back-up QBs that look better than ours. I did not look at the Back up DTs.

Oh man.

why did I just learn there was an open gameday thread AFTER the game?! AHH! This stinks, I’m too lazy to see your thoughts on my boy Brennan… I’m a big fan of the guy… outside of the drunken trespassing and sexual assault, but which of us doesn’t break into a girl’s room and refuse to leave every now and then?

Anyway, on a serious note, Brennan is a boss. I’m not a good analyst of o-linemen, did anyone see how Steve Justice played? I’ve been a fan of his (as some of you may recall) ever since he was dubbed Nalen 2.0.

I did not

One thing I need to learn before the season starts is how to watch the trenches on TV. The camera follows the ball.

try watching

safety play someday too…. sheesh, what a bear.

Last year, the bet broadcasts were done by NBC, followed by NFL network. They started with a widezoom well before the play, allowing you to get your bearings and note the formation, and they didn’t shift back when the QB dropped, which most telecasts do. The result is that you can easily see the mid defensive zones and LB play, and the line play is in the center of the picture. They didn’t waste a 1/4 of the side of the TV with the empty field behind the QB.

Next was CBS and Fox who always have decent telecasts, but they are more prone to jumping in at the last second before the snap, focusing on the QB and missing out completely on the LB play and of course showing us empty field and not taking advantage of the entire width of the view. I would call this the “classic” version.

And of course ESPN comes in last for its MNF broadcasts. Forget the constant distractions in the booth and the awful talking heads. Even when they were showing the on-field action they were screwing it up routinely. They tried a lot of different camera angles, all focusing on “dramatic” shots, and the result was missing out on presnap reads 90% of the time, and almost never seeing any activity away from the ball. Absolutely awful film to breakdown…

In the future, I’m hoping for dual picture-in-picture capability with the standard broadcast, an over the shoulder “madden” view, and a wide angled “standard” view that could see everything except the deepest safety zones. I would even pay extra for the capability. If you watched on your cpu you could run triple monitors and be in small form of heaven….

Mountains, forest, sea: these render man fierce, but yet do not destroy the man.

I can see

that in terms of trying to actually watch the game on a standard TV on a network channel other than NBC I won’t even make the depth chart. I’ll just sit in the back row of MHR University and learn.
