A warning for Merriman

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=hill/080829&sportCat=nfl

This article details the problems that former Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Reggie Williams had from playing on a torn PCL and ACL. While it did not affect him during his playing career it had a terrible toll on his knees after.

A quick picture of his knee now.

Dont look if you're squeamish

Like Williams, Merriman is gambling his future health and security in order to get more of what he wants now. A dangerous attitude that may have terrible ramifications.

Sorry about that Zappa.

It’s in a link now so everyone should be prewarned.

I think I could sit for the rest of my life with a knee like that.

Consider

SD could tell him, “Look, we appreciate this but please have the surgery now and we’ll see youn ext season.” but they don’t. It’s indicative of the pressures that guys like Merriman are reacting to.

That said, I think he’s acting like a moron, too….

Merriman is not unsual in sacrificing his post-football well-being

for present glory. Lots of ex-football players can barely walk. Probably the only thing that would sway him is realizing that playing hurt could aggravate the injury cost him the rest of his football career, and I suspect that argument has already been made and rejected. I bet he’d be willing to sacrifice just about anything to be able to contribute on the field to a super bowl team.
