Mustard AND Pierce?

very interesting.

I’m going to take it less multiple TE sets and more true fullback with Hillis/Pitman? Or is Leach going to play some TE? :)

by poorboywilly on Aug 30, 2008 2:14 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Styg50 was right about Nate Jackson.

Shanny must be satisfied enough with his blocking ability to cut Mustard and Pierce.

Although, I think this is more indication of the depth they want to keep at other positions,
and more indication of the fact their offense is so geared toward the pass game now.

And they know Mustard will always be there on the street if they need him, and Pierce will go to the PS.

Will Barrett be

passing waivers and joining the PS?

What I think so far

Good:
Cutting Sapp- I’ve liked what I’ve seen from Hillis and this means that A.A. will most likely make the team.

Bad
Cutting D-Hack only scares me. We need another qb bad now. Let’s steal one from the bucs.

I'm sure

Hack is for the practice squad unless he happens to get picked up…then we should grab that Ariz. guy :)

by poorboywilly on Aug 30, 2008 2:17 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Which Arizona guy? Leinart or Morelli?

Leinart would be good for Broncos commercials, he is very photogenic. Morelli gives the pass defense opportunities to practice returning interceptions. Both QBs are very good options.

No surprises so far

I’m not surprised by any of the cuts so far – Sapp was my pick for surprise cut.

Of all the people cut/waived so far the only one i think should have made the 53 is Hackney (over Ramsey).

I like the idea of what Barret can become but the PS is the right place for him this year.

Hillis is the real test though

since he is a thoroughbred at the position with a pedigree in pass catching. If he can’t last I think Shanny gives up on the FB and goes straight to 3TE! :)

What options do you have in the UK for watching the NFL?

A few of the MHR faithful have found links for streaming, in case you don’t have good options for watching Denver games live.

and check out NFL.com

under “NFL Shop” they have a thing called gamepass, which gives you options for following either the NFL, a single team, or a single weekends worth of games. I don’t know if it is active yet, but it looks cool.

I have no idea what it costs, since they don’t list that, and it is only available to fans outside of the US.

With 8 annouced so far...

There should be 12 more cuts coming…

The Broncos were at 74 after the Holland trade, and Brandon Marshall will no count against the 53 man roster week 1, so that leaves 20 players that need to be moved.

Sirius, yesterday, announced possible trade of Gandy back to IND.

Apparently they’ve lost OGs and Gandy was a perfect fit because of his knowledge of their system.

Doesn’t explain why they wouldn’t just wait for him to be cut, though.

we can take a hard stance if we wanted

and trading Holland seems to back us up. It would be a bluff, but I think Indy might have to honor it.

Of course, this is Bill Polian we are talking about here. I f Shanny bluffs him, “Mastermind” may be too magnanimous of a title for Shanny.

no one else should ever wear that number for Denver.

"I could never quite get the hang of Thursdays..."

by FlaBroncoFan on Aug 30, 2008 2:39 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Denver has three retired numbers

18 Frank Tripucka
44 Floyd Little
7 John Elway.

This team can’t keep retiring numbers or else they will have none left. I was thinking about that last night while watching #77 make a great tackle. Alzado and Meck came to mind immediately, but no, it was worn by Larry Birdine.
Not that he deserved that number, who else in the future could equal Alzado? Who could match Rod Smith’s numbers wearing #80? In the end, I just want to see a player honor and try to live up to a former great players number. No more retired numbers unless we develop a football legend like Elway again.

Im still bitter over Alzado

I think he was being an ass in 1979, Couldnt make up his mind if he wanted to box or play football. Then he got pissed when Gehrke traded him to Cleveland. I could have forgiven him, but he became a fader. So #77 for me Meck

by broncfanstuckinsd on Aug 30, 2008 3:04 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think Alzado got into deep $ trouble...

…after that fight with Muhammed Ali. If I remember right he wanted the Broncos to bail him out by redoing his contract but they either wouldn’t or couldn’t so they traded him.

JOSH BARRETT

I CAN NOT BELIEVE THEY CUT THIS KID. IT IS A HUGE MISTAKE. HOW DO THEY CUT HIM AND KEEP RODERICK RODGERS. BARRETT IS 10 TIMES BETTER THEN RODGERS WILL EVER BE. I WAS REALLY IMPRESSED WITH THIS KID WHEN HE GOT IN AND PLAYED. HE ALMOST TIPPED A PASS TO HIMSELF LAST NIGHT AGAINST THE CARDINALS. HE IS ALL OVER THE FIELD WHEN HE IS IN. THEY SHOULD HAVE WENT WITH MANUEL, MCREE, ABDULLAH AND BARRETT AT THE SAFETY. WITH ABDULLAH AND BARRETT BEING THE FUTURE. THEY WERE COMPARING THIS BARRETT KID TO THE LATE GREAT SEAN TAYLOR, THEY SAID HE WAS JUST AS PHYSICALLY GIFTED BUT NEEDED SOMEONE TO PUSH HIM TO FULL POTENTIAL. HOPEFULLY HE CLEARS WAIVERS AND IS ON THE PRACTICE SQUAD.

they must "waive"

a player or put him on waivers. Any other team can pick him up, but they must have an open 53-man-roster spot. If no team “claims” him off waivers, he may be placed on your practice squad.

by poorboywilly on Aug 30, 2008 3:18 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

"I could never quite get the hang of Thursdays..."

by FlaBroncoFan on Aug 30, 2008 3:19 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

It is a 24 hour period where any team can claim a player

If multiple teams claim the player, he goes to the worst team of the bunch. The team that claims a player off of waivers assumes the current contract of that player.

Also, any player with more than 3 years (maybe 4) of NFL experience who is cut today does not have to go on waivers. He becomes a free agent immediately and can choose to sign with any team (there may be a restriction about resigning with the same team in less than 24 hours)

by MattR on Aug 30, 2008 3:23 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

and "worst team"

is based on their record from last year.

"Either way, I don’t see Sapp or Pittman making this team. It’s a numbers game from what I can tell. You figure with Young, Hall, Aldridge, and Torain there isn’t enough room for 7 HB/FBs. The only way I see both those guys on the team is if Denver cuts Aldridge and puts Torain on the PUP.

I think EE is going to get a pink slip too.

not for much longer

the talent level in Houston is getting better by the week so they wont be intested in all our castoffs for too much longer. We may be looking at theirs :)

I would accept their castoffs as long as it's

Andre Reed or Mario Williams…

Man, I really dislike Ramsey right now....

he gets the benefit of the doubt because he is a former first round draft pick. lousy.

Give the guy a break...

He is what he is – not his fault the ’Skins reached…

Besides, keeping Hackney based on one game might be rushing things…

And none of this matters we’d loose any game without Cutler…

Ha actually had a passerrating of 72 last year...

I think we’re blaming him for the motor-city-misery – that wasn’t (entirely) his fault…

I agree to a point.

I even stuck up for him at the time. Still, over the course of time (including the preseason), Ramsey has just looked awful, while Hackney has seemed decent.

I agree,

I would’ve kept Hackney too. I’m just saying; that makes for no reason to hate a guy for still wearing blue and orange, thats all…
