It's official...Marshall gets 3 games!!!

The Denver Post has reported that the NFL has officially announced a three game suspension for Brandon Marshall.  As anticipated, the suspension could possibly be reduced to two games, at Goodell's discresion, for complying with certain "conditions of the suspension", including counseling.

Marshall's attorney confirmed that they will appeal the suspension.

As I have already made issue of on another FanPost,  the ruling came 18 days after Marshall met with Goodell.  Also, information on the suspension apparently leaked well before the official announcement.  I believe that both the amount of time and lack of control over "insider information" reflect poorly on the league's handling of this situation.

Appalling!

Marshall suspended? No surprise. Has made some mistakes, he needs to take responsibility for. But the Broncos will step up.

What is totally surprising and appalling about this whole situation is the lack of character and leadership displayed by Roger Almighty and his office (dragging out a decision, and allowing information to leak). Who will call him on the carpet for being hypocrite.

And am I the only one who has lost all respect for every friggin shark in the water, fly on crap, reporter who stirred and speculated this whole pot for months?

Marshall, I forgive you. Roger and the reporters, I hope I get to run into sometime:)

I like the slap on the wrist that MarShawn Lynch got for

driving around town drunk and hitting another vehicle then fleeing. Nice job there. I hate double standards…even more so when my favorite team gets the short end of the suspension stick.

To be honest, I thought BMarsh should have been suspended…at least I did until M. Lynch got off scot free….now there is a double standard out there that really, really pisses me off.

I say drop the appeal

if it can’t be decided by 9/8. Get the counceling and get the suspension reduced to two and get on with the season. No sense putting off the inevitable. Let’s hope he learns. I hope Eddie surprizes the hell out of faders and merry men.

I think BMarsh takes the counseling and all that, but still goes through with an appeal.

That way, regardless of the outcome the suspension will not be longer than 2 games. My hope is that the appeal takes us into a “cake” part of our schedule.. Not to start the season against two divisional rivals!!!

I read somewhere

that Shanny already has him in counseling.

firstfan You may be right and I am also looking to Eddie Royal for comfort....

The problem is the DUI case happening next month. If Brandon is going to miss some games, lets hope Goodell waits until all the issues are settled. Cling to hope. I don’t think someone as smart as Goodell is going make a move until what’s coming up is resolved.

Quote from the DP article:

“Marshall also has a DUI charge pending trial next month, but the collective bargaining agreement states a player cannot be suspended for his first offense.”

So I think we should be okay there.

Well. . . .

If this is gonna be a team that has Super Bowl aspirations they will need players to step up for the first 2 games. As well all know my feelings and I agree with UM on his post, no matter what the Broncos will need to overcome. BTW talk out here is that Gates most likely will miss the Broncos/SD game. It doesnt ease the fact BM is gone, but it wont hurt that Gates is gone. On another topic, the local radio station out here thinks Cromartie is better thanChamp. They said they have the best RB, TE, NT and CB in the NFL. I disagree with the CB asserstion

The leak was unfortunate, as was the timeline.

Never the less, being arrested three times in one year is a clear violation of the player standard, and Marshall is fortunate to get 2 games (only an idiot would pass on the counseling condition). Fighting the suspension doesn’t look like contrition to me, and as Guru has pointed out, may void the conditions to drop the suspension to three games. I hope Marshall takes the slap on the wrist like a man and comes back ready to play.

Marshall has one thing going for him. While many flashy, big names in the NFL would run off at the mouth and blame everyone else, Brandon himself isn’t blaming the press, the police, the NFL, and everyone but himself. With his attitude, he has a fighting chance to rise above his behavior. If he was running his mouth like some major NFL stars he wouldn’t have a prayer. I just his lawyer doesn’t screw the deal over by deciding to fight it.

I agree...

My main beef was with the league’s handling of the situation…not the suspension. Although, I don’t think it’s consistent in terms of severity with other recent decisions made by Goodell.

I also agree that MBarsh has handled himself well and seems to be accepting responsibilty for his situation.

MBarsh?

Did we pick up a new player I wasn’t aware of? ;-)

I saw an article about Marshall’s lawyer being upset with Goodell for not even letting Marshall know personally about the suspension. This whole thing has been a farce and an unnecessary spectacle. The hypocrisy, the way it was drawn out(Goodell is the only person who can figure out what the punishment should be AND how to handle the Favre situation?). I don’t like the suspension but he did violate the conduct policy which he agreed to.

MBarsh must be Brandon's evil twin.

I don’t really like Brandon involving an attorney. It seems to indicate that he isn’t fully embracing responsibility yet. Even the players’ union isn’t siding with Brandon on this one.
