Brett the Jet

Brett Favre has been traded to the New York Jets. What the Packers acquired is currently unknown. It is believed it will be a single draft pick based on NYJ's season. Anyone else thinking Favre will be mentoring Kellen Clemens and Erik Ainge? Maybe Pennington will be released and be looking for a back up job. Pennington in Denver blue and Orange, anyone? He's better than Ramsey, right? PS I got him in the Denver Gentlemen FFL :-p

NOOOOOOOO

I was about to pick him up yesterday:(

by broncofan91 on Aug 6, 2008 10:34 PM MDT   0 recs

I called this one.

Glad to see him go to the Jets, they were one of my Dark Horse picks for the season, along with the Vikings. I like Tarvarus Jackson, and am glad he is gonna get to start this season.

4th conditional could turn as high as a 1st

I still think it would be funny for the Jets to try and flip him to Minn…

Good idea but...

it was reported that there was a condition in the trade that if New York trades Favre this year then they owe Green Bay 3 first round draft picks. They covered themselves well.

Great Move

But i wonder how fast he will pick up the new offense since he said he mentaly couldn’t handle the preparation week after week in his retirement speech.

Sunday, November 30... 11 am Bronco Standard Time

The busiest shopping day of the year…
The third turkey sandwich lunch in a row…
and the Broncs walk onto the frozen tundra (ok, Field Turf…) at the Meadowlands to face Brett Favre and the New York Football Jets.
(stay loose, DrĂ© Bly….)

And the best part is

That NBC can try to choose that game for Sunday night so we can all hear Madden gush over Favre for three hours.

by MattR on Aug 7, 2008 1:21 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Thanks

now I am gonna be sick with the though of Madden all over Favre, again.

by broncfanstuckinsd on Aug 7, 2008 2:23 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

It seems like all the teams he was

in the running for are playing Denver this year… It must be destiny.

And I would take pennington over Ramsey right now. Easy.

Mountains, forest, sea: these render man fierce, but yet do not destroy the man.

by styg50 on Aug 7, 2008 1:31 AM MDT   0 recs

He only lost his job...

because pressure was on to put Clemens in.

by JR_G on Aug 7, 2008 1:34 AM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Uggh no

I really like the guy and have rooted for him to succeed, but Pennington has no arm left. He just cannot make the throws needed to fully run an NFL offense.

This is going to make finding tickets for the Jets-Broncos game a bigger pain.

by MattR on Aug 7, 2008 5:02 AM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Is it just me or is it crazy

to bump the Jets up to the #4 favorite for the AFC championship (behind NE, SD and Indy)? Their odds to win the conference jumped from 18-1 to 6-1 overnight.

by MattR on Aug 7, 2008 5:10 AM MDT   0 recs

I am sold

I think Favre is a good QB, but to make the Jets #4 in the AFC is a stretch. Do they even run the West coast offense. Their only WR is Coles. I am willling we see the 2006 or 2007 Favre. Ya know the 48 pick guy over 2 years

by broncfanstuckinsd on Aug 7, 2008 11:40 AM MDT to parent up   0 recs

just rechecked

someone must’ve been antsy this morning. The line is back up to 15-1. That seems much more reasonable

by MattR on Aug 7, 2008 12:40 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

The AFC East

Favre will have to share the division with the Patriots. I don’t think the Jets get anywhere.

Jets

Now that they have Favre, I am liking their chances for an upset season. But three things have to happen:

1. Favre has to play well like last year, not have some 35 INT season.
2. The O-Line has to gel with two new starters, Faneca and Woody. And some people think that Alan is washed up.
3. Gholston and Pace need to bring consistent heat on the QB.

If those 3 things happen, look out!!!

by PABroncofan on Aug 7, 2008 9:06 AM MDT   0 recs

And the Patriots have to trip badly.

I see the Patsies D as swiss cheese this year.

Not alot to speak of there secondary, or there aging linebacking core. with exception of the Mayo kid.

Mayo

is gonna be a stud though. That will help their LB’s. But I do agree with your assesment on their corners

by broncfanstuckinsd on Aug 8, 2008 12:21 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

At least this thing is over now.

He will surly make them better, however I don’t see them a lot better. I don’t see them as a big favorite for anything right now because he as a whole new system to learn. Their week 2 home opener against the Pats should be interesting.

NY media can be cruel so we’ll see what happens should Favre struggle.

by weazel on Aug 7, 2008 10:26 AM MDT   0 recs

Denver's own Adam Schefter...

...says the the KC Queefs are a very likely landing spot for Pennington due to his history with Sperm Edwards.

by UnarmingMermaid on Aug 7, 2008 10:45 AM MDT   0 recs

Well

We see Shefter is 1/2 lately on his predictions so we will see

Packers Win!

Even though there were no heroes and only villains in this soap opera, I have to say that I’m glad the Packers “won”. I’m tired of diva players demanding things they should have no right to ask for. They sign the contracts that they demand to be renegotiated; could you imagine what would happen if teams could freeze out well-paid vets that struggle in order to force them to renegotiate their contracts?! Farve wanted to be hailed as a conquering hero in Green Bay and, when he wasn’t, wanted to go to a Super Bowl contender that played them twice this regular season (Minny) like some sort of spoiled brat that takes his ball home, ruining the game, because the “good” kids didn’t want him on their team.

As for the Jets, I still think they’re on the outside looking in. A lot of the hot picks this season (Jets, Vikes, Saints, Jags, etc.) have a lot of new pieces that might take some time to gel. The AFC is stacked and I don’t think N.Y. is better than NE, Indy, SD, Pitt or JAX, so this just bumps them up into the gaggle (where I believe we are) battling for the final Wild Card spot.

Much ado about nothing

Remember, Brett had two bad seasons prior to last year. IMHO, he played better this past season because of better talent around him, and generally more favorable game circumstances. I think the Jets are undertalented, and not particularly well-coached on offense. I’m going to watch them play the Browns later (sans Favre, obviously) so maybe I’ll post something about how they look. I’m not that impressed in theory, though. He’s better than Pennington (who is not better than Ramsey IMO, though he once beat him out head-to-head.) Being better than Pennington is not the same thing as being the missing link for a Super Bowl championship though.

Green Bay got the better deal.

The Packers will receive a fourth-round draft pick in 2009 in return for Favre. The selection would turn into a third-rounder if Favre plays in 50 percent of the plays this season, a second-rounder if he plays in 70 percent and the Jets make the playoffs, or a first-round pick if he plays in 80 percent and the Jets make it to the Super Bowl.

The Packers scored on this deal because they may get a better pick and you figure Favre won’t be in the league much longer anyways.

by weazel on Aug 7, 2008 4:23 PM MDT   0 recs

Favre also has an adjustment period.

The NYJs don’t play the pass game like the Pack. He might have a rough start this year.
