Royal With Cheese (And the Case for D-Jack's Roster Spot)
I don't know if this nickname has been used yet but I'm going to beat it to death like a pinata shaped like a Raider. But I'm not here to come up with catchy monikers. I'm here to be the first one to officially announce that Mr. With Cheese has passed D-Jack on the depth chart. This drops D-Jack all the way down to the four spot do to Stokley's stranglehold on the slot position. And according to rotoworld.com, my go to fantasy website, this puts D-Jacks roster position in serious danger. (Yes I'm an advertising whore)

"After being supplanted by Eddie Royal, Darrell Jackson has fallen to a fourth receiver in Denver.
He drops two rungs on the depth chart because Brandon Stokley is the slot receiver. Jackson may now be in danger of not making the team. Denver has more invested in Keary Colbert and Jackson would be easier to cut."
-rotoworld.com
Now this is where this post does an 180 and questions this exact quote. I just don't get why D-Jack's roster position would be in any danger. In my mind he's still more talented than Colbert. And I do see their point about us having more money invested in Colbert but don't we still have S. Parker and G. Martinez to dump off?
I just think that we can't dumping our few veterans if we're ever going to have a chance at making the playoffs let alone winning the division. I mean this guy has three, almost four, 1000 yard receiving seasons and he's still under thirty. I might be wrong, but I think that's more than our whole roster has combined. I just think we should scratch anybody other wideout under him. But then again I may be preaching for his roster spot because he already has a roster spot on another team, Mr. Henry's Doobies. (A.K.A. My fantasy team.)

I think we'll see that depth chart juggle up until the last preseason game...
Unless D-Jack stinks it up during games, he should make this roster, especially considering Bmarsh’s suspension. I wouldn’t let rotorooterworld distress you. :)

Love the Nickname!
I’ve been calling him that for years. I’m a Va. Tech fan so I’ve followed him since his freshman year. That HAS to be his nickname. I’ve been waiting for someone to mention that. It’s one of the best lines from that movie! I mean we can’t call him Le Big Mac can we?

Royal....with Cheese.
Is 100% the nickname that needs to be given to Mr. Royal. Great movie, great line, and hopefully a soon to be great football player.

Someone
Someone left that nickname as a comment on BroncoTalk a little while back. It wasn’t for Royal alone though. It was for the two-headed monster that is Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal.
Royal… and the Big Mac Attack victim. Royal with Cheese. Fits on so many levels!

Heh.
Royal with cheese (link to video). That’s a good one.
Anyway, we still have time to see if Jackson doesn’t have a spot on this team. As you mention, there are others who could be let go before him, but the two you mention aren’t gunning for the same amount of playing time Jackson likely desires.

I've been trying to tell you guys
DJack was the product of a system, a great o-line and amazing chemistry with Hasselbeck. He’s not actually that good. The reason why his roster spot is in jeopardy is because he doesn’t do anything else. He’s not exactly a hard worker or a team player. I’m not incredibly familiar with Colbert and Parker but if either one of them plays a lick of ST they’re far more valuable at that 4th reciever spot.
Not that I’m a fan of Royal, but this is the right move for the Broncos.

D-Jack went to San Francisco....I doubt you can say he is a failure and a product of the system
because he floundered on such a woeful football team with such a flop of a quarterback in Alex Smith

I can say it because I watched him during his entire Hawk career,
because even though his team was bad he wasn’t helping (check out his catch% and DPAR) in San Fran, and because he’s plummeted to the bottom of the Denver depth chart. The Bronco’s are much better off finding a younger guy that can develop and play some special teams than keeping DJack around to limp through practices and disappear on game day, only to complain about his catches in the post game press conference.

good fit for Broncos
DJack failed in San Fran, the system them didn’t really suit him, but he ought to be a good fit with how Cutler and the Broncos play. I’m not giving up on him yet, lets see what he can do in orange&blue before making our minds up
and the sing along songs will be our scriptures - we gotta stay positive!

There is no way D-Jack doesn't make the team....
BMarsh is suspended and D-Jack is a proven veteran. S. Parker is in danger, not D-Jack

Agreed. Jackson is on the team come opening day. Given the depth I wouldn’t be shocked if Denver decides to keep six to start the season, especially with Brandon’s suspension.

and G Martinez
His TD return was a result of excellent blocking, not his moves. He is fast though. He reminds me of Darius Watts. He will not make the team.

It pains me to do this
Agree with a fader fan, but he does have a very legit point on DJax. He does have problems holding on to the ball. Always has. But usually SD has worse receivers and Seattle doesnt get too much love or attn in the MSM so he was overlooked. I think he can be valuable. But I would not lose any sleep if he does get cut. Plus when was rotoworld knew wtf they were talking about regarding depth charts. I take whatever these rotissere geeks say with a grain of salt

easy,
i wouldn’t put too much into the first preseason game depth chart. give it time, jackson will be the #2 or #3 receiver(i’m not counting the slot, it is a different position). either way, after the first 3 games, marshall, stokely, and scheff are going to get most of the balls, anyway. if he is unwilling to block, then he might have a problem sticking. other than that, he is in.

D-Jack stats too good.
D-Jack has too good of career stats to say he was simply a “product of the system.” His stats say he has ability and he can catch the ball. No doubt he is not a speed guy, and he will have trouble getting great separation, especially in man coverage. But with Cutler’s rocket a WR does not need a lot of separation. They just need to be able to make tough catches (like Marshall does). He will be able to make the team and help the team.
But I do think it is better to play Royal ahead of him. Royal’s speed will force teams like the Raiders out of man coverage. Thats why Shanny promoted Royal so quickly. He is getting ready for the Raiders, who like to play man coverage (and they do it pretty good too). But you can beat good man coverage with speed and size. Royal brings the speed, and Marshall the size. In Marshall’s absence (due to Roger Almighty’s God complex) I think we will see a lot of double and triple TE (with Scheffler and Nate Jackson spread out).

I believe
he was the best WR Seattle had for many years. But he drops the ball a lot. That concerns me more than anything. Heck TO catches a lot of balls, but he drops a ton also. Not comparing the two guys overall making a point. Where TO will make a big play after a few drops, with Jackson he might not be heard of again. But I hope I am wrong

Everyone needs to understand something about the Seahawk offense
It is very wide receiver friendly. Outside of two years with Sterling Sharpe, Mike Holmgren has been making mediocre WR’s that have a certain skill set into 1,000 yard receivers for years. DJack was especially an example of this because he also fed off Seattle’s ability to run the ball with Alexander and that o-line in their prime, and great chemistry with Hasselbeck.
Clearly the Seahawks weren’t afraid of what he could do outside of Seattle when they traded him inside the division to San Fran. A lot of fans, and the front office as well, felt that DJack was far more valuable on the Hawks than he would be to any other team because of the reason’s I’ve outline above.
by RaiderPete on Aug 10, 2008 10:23 AM MDT 0 recs
Looks like D Jack will be out
I agree with most of the posts here, he does drop way too many balls and he seemed to think he is better than his talent, I wouldn’t be surprised if they drop him and Colbert, although I am guessing it won’t be until after Marshall returns from the suspension. Does anyone know if a suspended player counts on the 53 man roster? Or can they carry 53 until he comes back and then cut him?
