New Blog: The Boxing Bulletin for Boxing Fans!

MHR rules.

This is my first post, but i've followed this blog for about 10 months now. I'm excited over this season with the promise our new players have shown so far. I think that the 06 class with cutler, scheff, marsh, and doom will eventually be our veteran leaders in the seasons to come and our rookies now will eventually be the core of our team, we'll have a great season for sure, but even better ones in the future!

About me... I'm a high school senior living in pittsburgh, so i need to ask you guys a queason...

Star-divide

Like i said, i live in pittsburgh (actually a small town near pittsburgh) and i can't see any broncos games unless they are monday night or against pitt / dallas / green bay. it really sucks not being able to see my favorite team except for 2-3 times a year. NFL network isn't much help.

I recently got a 1500 SAT, so my parents say they will pay for a station on dish network if it gets broncos games!

Anyone able to help me out? any way to get denver local sports here? NFL sunday ticket is a bit unreasonable.

also, i have dial-up, so i can't stream anything unless i'm at work.

First off, welcome!

I’m kind of a noob too, but if you need any help with anything, you can email me, or better yet, Zappa, Hoosierteacher, Guru, or mdierk. They’ll help you with anything you need.

I’m kind of in the same boat you are with watching Broncos games. I’m in Kansas City and the only way I could get to watch games are with the NFL Sunday Ticket, which I can’t get because I have Comcast, which absolutely blows. But from what I’ve heard, ST comes highly recommended and is worth the high price. I have no experience with it, that’s just what I’ve heard.

Also, congrats on the high SAT score. I’m in high school too; I’ll be a junior this year, and I’m scheduled to take the ACT in September.

Why do I live in Kansas City?

welcome!

As a California based Broncos fan I face the same challenge (as many of this site’s members do) in seeing the team on TV.

Sunday Ticket is definitely the way to go – but is only available to DirecTV subscribers. Even though I am “grown up” and master of my own television, DirecTV + Sunday Ticket is not so easy to fit in a budget. Sell the folks on DirecTV for them – and then get them to buy you the ST part! FWIW - I have been trying this with my fiancee for years, and despite my good work evaluations, etc. she won’t go for it. ;)

My solution has been to go to sports bars that have Sunday Ticket. I get to meet other Broncos fans and avoid the cable charges. In general this option isn’t so good for teenagers (duh) but you may want to see if any local venues have a place for the underaged. Look for a sports bar in a bowling alley or something.

Mostly – good luck, congrats on the SAT success, and welcome!

I'm another California-based Bronco fan...

with no TV access at home. If there are any site regulars in the San Jose/Santa Cruz area who frequent a local Sunday Ticket watering hole for games, let me know. My usual haunt is Double D’s in Los Gatos….

p.s.

Has anyone closer to home heard anything about Torain’s surgery. It’s happened already, right? Any surprises in there? I’m still holding out hope we might see him between the lines this year…

Yes...

I happened and he’s on the road to recovery. The ligament damage was more severe than originally thought and the they’re expecting 3 months (6-8 weeks was original estimate) before he can take the field.

Congrats on the SAT score!!!

I think Sunday Ticket is your only real option to see all of the games other than NFL network replays.

You could take advantage of that test score and go to a real school, namely Colorado University ;-), and then you could see all of the Broncs games.

U of Denver was on my list..

but my mom wants me to stay close. might go to pitt, cmu, penn state. being offered a place in johns hopkins, but its early to make any decisions. Thanks all for your answers, this is a great community! (i’ve been around sb nation, every one here is a steeler fan, and so far none of the other sites have such a good community. we post articles at 3 times the rate of steel curtain or silver black pride!)

Joohns Hopkins

is a fantastic school. I wouldn’t turn that one down lightly. Congrats on what sounds like some great (and well deserved) opportunities.

I know this is a Broncos site...

but I’m scheduled to take the SAT in October, and I was wondering if you had any advice of any kind? I’ve noticed a lot of Broncos fans are smart people, I’m not one to brag, but I did pretty well on my IQ test way back in Elementary School.

Anyway, even if you can’t help at all, it’s cool. Congratulations on your score, and I wish you the best of luck in picking a college. I myself hope to go to the University of South Florida (Go Bulls!) after this, my senior year.

just take it easy..

tests usually come easy to me (but i’m lazy as heck.) SAT was probably the only test i ever studied for the the past couple years. if you’re good at math, study reading. and vice versa. i got a 780 math score, a 720 reading (HUGE accomplishment for me, first time i took the test reading was 560, i’m a math guy) and a 670 in writing. just go in confident. i took a pillow to the test. i cracked jokes at the proctor. just don’t be nervous and you’ll do fine.

hope it goes well!

and...

form study groups with your friends. it’s actually a lot more fun. my english teacher prepped us well with vocab by giving us 15-20 words a week, and i only missed one vocab question. one thing i did for critical reading is read the most advanced and boring essays about irrevelant subjects ( i read and took notes of english history, king john, the anglecan empire, and the use of magnesium indicators in diagnosing kidney disease.) these are harder than on the test, and if you get used to them, the SAT articles will be a piece of cake by comparison. as for math, most questions have a subtle shortcut to them, you can do them mentally.

GO BRONCOS!!!

FLA -

despite the fact that it’s been 13 years or so since I took the SAT, I’ve taken three bar exams in the past two years and there is one piece of advice that I can give you which you may find helpful: practice, practice, practice. Whether or not you are comfortable in the subjects being tested, it’s a much different feeling when you are actually in there, against the clock, and having your scores count (not unlike football!). Get used to the format, and more importantly, get used to doing questions on the clock. That way, with practice, you can get yourself to the point at which you can answer the ones you know off the bat very quickly and then leave plenty of time left over for the ones that require more thought or attention. It’s not fun, and it’s a miserable way to spend your free time. But, it can pay off handsomely.

ABF – congrats on your success and welcome to what is really a great community of individuals who also happen to bleed blue and orange.

while back HT said he might be able to help us out with this issue!

I’m hoping that there is a web based solution rather than Direct Tv, I don’t like DTVs policies or thier broadcast quality so I keep looking! Thanks in advance for any help in this matter everyone!!!
Go BRONCOS!!!!!

Here it is...

The answer is sopcast.org

It’s also free. Several of the guys use it. This will be my first year (assuming I can afford to upgrade my pc and get high speed).

woa!

SOPCast still works? I was using it to start the year last year (got to watch the Toro play on my crappy laptop screen, but it was worth it!), but I thought the NFL shut all the streams down? I will definitely try it out tonight again…

Welcome, Arabian. Awesome score on the SAT!!

by tunga77 on Aug 9, 2008 2:28 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I just downloaded sopcast

What do I do now?

Under the “Live Channels” tab I see a “Sports test channel group” that has sports from Shanghai and what looks to be a game between Manchester United and FC Barcelona.

Is this where I would find tonight’s game?

so anyone know a fast blog?

i used masons morsels last year, and yahoo sports play by play, but is there any dial up friendly blog that’ll keep live play by plays? MHR is great but slooow on my connection (main reason i waited so long). i’ll try to get ST, but just in case..

by ArabianBroncoFan on Aug 9, 2008 1:14 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Yea, I got broadband and MHR does tend to load slowly. I think it might have to do with the number of stories on the front page,

but it’s still the best fan blog around. ;)

I am not sure if there is a way to make MHR load fast, perhaps Guru might know of a way. As for watching live games, let me know. I have dish network too and I am trying to think of a way of scamming them into giving me local Denver stations. ;) After all, I gave of NFL Sunday Ticket on DirecTV and came to them…its the least they could do right? :)

I've always assumed

It was the flash content, and the large number of images. When I get back from my vacay, I will do some analysis and can maybe help sbnation speed stuff up.

my parents get some arabian channels pumped in via sattelite

any way to get cbs4 denver local pumped here? i’ll be able to use sopcast only away from home.
p.s. ht, what type of system is a blitz happy scheme that isn’t show or zone blitz. like the eagles jim johnson scheme? any chance we use that aggressive style w /out the big play dangers of the show blitz?

Or

a SOPCAST-How-To fanpost? I would love to see that – so I can try to hack Linux into using it… Man am I a geek. ;-)

I wish I could use Linux

but I’m stuck with Windoze.

Also would appreciate any information on sopcast. I’ve got Sunday Ticket for the regular season, but I’d like to see what’s happening during the pre-season.
