A Little Help: Fantasy Football Question.
Well guys, I hope you don't mind my posting an off-topic question in a Fan Post. It's not entirely of topic because it does involve a Bronco. Basically, I was unable to access a fantasy draft on Yahoo (the league's a yearly one with some friends from Princeton) and I ended up with the following roster:
- QB - Carson Palmer
- RB - Brandon Jacobs
- WR - Randy Moss
- WR - Reggie Wayne
- TE - Tony Gonzalez
- RB/WR - Tory Holt
- RB/WR - Anquan Boldin
- K - Shane Graham
- DEF - Jacksonville
- Bench - QB Eli Manning, RB Deuce McAllister, WR Kevin Curtis, WR Joey Galloway, TE Donald Lee, DEF New England
Not a lost cause, but certainly not what I would have wanted. There are several players on my bench that I'm likely to cut (Curtis, McAllister, New England and maybe Lee) but that's not my main concern. My worry is my complete lack of depth at RB and my general dislike for Jacobs/Giants. There is nothing of worth on the waiver wire and only one team that was interested in swaping RBs for my position of strength (WR). The offer on the table is the following:
- I give WR Tory Holt
- I get RB Selvin Young and RB Chris Perry
This was pretty much what I was looking for, but now I'm not so sure. I'm concerned about Shanny's track record with RBs and I'd like to see Perry play a regular season game before investing so heavily in them. The problem is that solid performances from them combined with either injury or ineffectiveness from this guy's other RB might void the deal if I wait. My question is as follows: should I pull the trigger now, wait and see for a week or stand pat and cross my fingers for the year? Oh, the league scoring is about the same as regular Yahoo scoring, for those concerned about that. Again, I apologize for the off-topic post, but I trust the judgement of those on the board and it's not entirely out of left field. Thanks in advance to those who offer their advice in the comments. Cheers and go Broncos!

gotta take it
I don’t think you’ve much of a choice but to take the deal, just one rb won’t really keep you going. You’ve got depth at WR so you won’t miss Holt, Perry and Young will definitely both feature in week 1 so go for it I reckon.

And if Andre Hall is on the waivers
don’t be afraid to pick him up, especially if you pick up Selvin. A couple of other RBs with potential that might still be on waivers:
Steve Slaton
Maurice Morris
And I would personally consider putting boldin and wayne on the block and leave them there. Week two and you might have people banging down your door for a shot at them…
Good luck, you’ve got a tough row ahead of you.

You have to get talent and depth at RB, so go for it
It is kind of a lopsided trade, but you have to get RBs.

Why?
Why is everyone so enamored with RBs??? :)

Pull the trigger.
You have to make that trade. You would be getting 2 RBs for an older WR on a terrible team.

Don't make the trade
until you check if Pierre Thomas (Saints) and Slaton (Texans) is available. You’re loaded at WR, which is a good thing IMO. I’ve won league soley on WR play. Unless you have LT or LT or LT, NO RB is worth it. If you must trade for RBs, just wait till after weeks 1-4. Remember, to win a championship you have to set your team up for the playoff run. There’s just no way of knowing which RBs will be the main scoring dude (ie., which back will be “bettis” like and get all the goal line runs (e.g., could be Hall in Denver). Can you win enough early season games to wait for RBs to go down to injury (e.g., Thomas Jones breaks down, you pick up Leon Wash)? I won it all the year Priest Holmes went down and I scooped up Larry Johnson. I rode him all the way to a championship…. NO ONE had him on their radar that year. I was just fortuante to hit gold at the end of the year.
All that to say…wait to make this trade. Selvin could be good move, but he may not yeild better pts than Holt. Perry…don’t know…perhaps….bungels don’t excite me.

gotta do it
You gotta do this trade. I mean, you have the roster spots once you drop all those scrubs. I like holt this year, but two starting RBs seems to fill your needs better. And, as people mentioned, you can always pick up Hall, Ahmad Bradshaw, Kenny Watson, etc. to shore up the RB depth.

I say no
This is a bad trade, you would be giving away a top 15 WR for 2 below 30 RBs. Young is a good back but will have to share touches too much. Perry is an unproven commodity. Holt has proven to be a strong WR and should get 1000 yards this season. The biggest problem I have with this trade is that Young and Perry should almost never start over Boldin/Holt/Jacobs/Duce. Dont give up a proven scorer in Holt just because your light at RB. There is more depth this year at RB than WR, you would be better to scour the waivers for Mendenhall, Andre Hall, Ricky Williams, or even Thorain after week 8 or so.

Thanks Everyone!
I really appreciate everyone chiming in, even though this was slightly off-topic. I believe I’ll hold off for a week or two before making any trades, just to see what the timeshares are in several teams. Thanks again and go Broncos!
