Eddie Royal Wins Rookie of the Week Award
DENVER BRONCOS WR EDDIE ROYAL VOTED WEEK 1 DIET PEPSI NFL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Winner Selected By Fan Vote on NFL.com and Via Sprint Wireless Service
Voters on NFL.com and via Sprint wireless service have made their choice. Wide receiver EDDIE ROYAL of the Denver Broncos is the DIET PEPSI NFL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK for games played on September 4-8, the NFL announced today.
Royal had nine catches for 146 yards and one touchdown in the Broncos' 41-14 win over the Oakland Raiders on Monday Night Football. He also rushed for nine yards and returned three kicks for 30 yards to help secure the Broncos' win.
Royal's 146 receiving yards marked the sixth-highest total by a player making his NFL debut since 1960 and led the NFL for Kickoff Weekend. His receiving yardage was the third-highest single-game total by a rookie in Broncos history.
Royal's 185 combined yards and 155 yards from scrimmage were the most in the AFC for Week 1. With nine receptions, the Virginia Tech University product set Broncos franchise single-game rookie records for most catches in a game as well as most catches in an NFL debut.
Royal was selected from among five finalists through fan votes on NFL.com/rookies and via Sprint wireless service. The other finalists were quarterback JOE FLACCO of the Baltimore Ravens, running back MATT FORTÉ of the Chicago Bears, running back CHRIS JOHNSON of the Tennessee Titans and quarterback MATT RYAN of the Atlanta Falcons.
After the regular season, five players will be nominated for Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year honors. Fans can vote for the winner on NFL.com/rookies and via Sprint wireless service throughout the month of January. The winner will be announced at a press conference at Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa Bay.
This is Pepsi's seventh year as the official soft drink sponsor of the NFL and the fourth year that Diet Pepsi will present the NFL Rookie of the Week and NFL Rookie of the Year awards.

This is a well deserved accolade. Imagine that, a Denver Bronco recognized for performance! Way to go Eddie!

Matt--I think you're right on--I'll take it one step beyond.....
His introduction will be by eight-time Super Bowl winners—and recent ‘Hall of Famers’—doing a ‘straight man / funny man comedy act’—Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall.
Bronco Coach Kyle Shannahan rounds out the speakers—with his dad Mike smiling in the background.

I love it.
Of course don’t forget that the Al Davis should get to say a few words as it was Davis that gave Royal his big break in the NFL. :-P

I'm a homer, sure,
but this was clearly well deserved. Any time a rookie (in his first game) runs circles around a two time probowler, yeah, it’s deserved.

I wouldn't call it being a homer I would call it having common sense
Eddie Royal deserved it hands down…plus he’s on my fantasy team, so I’d vote for him

Another no brainer
Did you guys check out NFL.com wher the votes are made? They had an extended video of ER that could be seen before you voted. It should still be up under the featured videos.
I wasn’t around on Wednesday to hear SG on MHR radio, but I listened to the podcast yesterday. Let me get my vote in on a nickname. For my money, I’m gonna call him…
EDDIE MONEY !!!
Yes, I know he was a singer, but thats the point: : “he was”. and Eddie Royal is NOW. As Bob Dylan said “Times are a changin”

After thinking about this a great deal...
…and by a great deal, I mean for the past couple of minutes…I don’t care what the nickname is. My reason: whenever he does something great, I’m just going to yell “EDDIE!!!” anyway. I’ll probably throw in the occasional “ED-DIE! ED-DIE!”, but I’ll be too caught in any moment to yell anything else. Eddie is just too easy and too fun to yell. Maybe I’m pre-conditioned by Eddie Mac.

My MAN!!!
Last Monday, prior to the game, I set my status on my Facebook page as “Ted is preparing to witness an emergence that will surprise some, but not smart people.” I meant the whole team, but as a subset of that, I was convinced that guys like Ryan Clady (who was also brilliant,) and Mr. Royal with Cheese were going to burst upon the scene. It’s nice to be right :)

It shouldn’t take to long in game 2, 2 see everyone voting, for Eddie again. Opposit B Marsh, the tandem will toast The SD “Dead Batteries” (where is that Bunnie when u need him). The “Chargers” will come out FLAT! I really don’t see this as much of a contest as everyone seems to predict. D38- SD21. (I had it at 31- 21, but after all of the posts, I changed my mind.)

And I expect this won't be the last time he wins this.
I totally enjoyed watching him play. I mean he has got some good quick moves that certainly help him create some space and having BMarsh on the other side will help him even more.
They can’t cover all the WRs and TEs, so somebody will be open.

I didn't expect this
Oh, I thought he should get it, no question. I didn’t expect it becuase the game is so East Coast centric – It’s good to see that a good guy can win it on merit sometimes.

I just remembered a poll I did awhile back.
The answers ranged from “I expect a major injury to happen”, to “a major player gets cut” to “a new star is born” or something like that.
We got our answer.
