New Blog: Five For Howling - for Coyotes fans Bar-right-arrows

Nice W

There was some great play on both sides, I'm looking forward to the game at the Murph.  Can't say we're happy with Hochuli, but we had our chances at stops and came up short.  A good old fashioned shootout, I was yelling so much I scared my dog.  I'm still trying to figure out what happened to the secondary on both sides.

How 'bout those QBs, they can play a little, eh?

indeed!

The Broncos got so lucky, but both teams had a solid chance. Way to show some class DaBolts.

No kidding

I have alot of respect for DaBolts. He wont lower himself to complain even when he has a perfectly legitimate reason to. Hats Off

And I go and make an idiot of myself by bashing Chargers fans in another thread.

DaBolts, you are a good dude. If I were a Chargers fan, I’d still be throwing things. Here’s to a first class rematch by two first class teams (except Phyllis— I won’t go that far :P) and two first class SBNation sites.

Chargers fans, please accept my apology.

2-0.

Hochuli

I just posted this elsewhere, but he had not reffed a Denver game since the 2000 season. The last game Denver game he was a part of was a 21-7 Denver victory where his crew called 9 penalties for 113 yards (which I assume led to complaints from the Broncos). It was the longest streak of a ref not being involved with a team.

Thanks Bolts for keeping it high class

Chargers fans are blowing up blogs all over the place pissing and moaning. Look, a non-call is a non-call.

It’s like holding not getting called.

If we want to complain, can I say that Royal was getting held all day and the worst offense that was not called on SD was the non-call when Stokely was at the goal line and was absolutely interfered with (happened right in front of me).

Oh well, can’t look a gift-horse in the mouth (whatever that means), but as I was walking out of the game yesterday, Broncos fans and Chargers fans were totally civil talking about what a classic game it was.

Bolts is right and Norv Turner’s wrong. Norv said (I’m paraphrasing) that it stinks that they lose a game decided on a bad call. The game was “decided” on every down, and maybe most importantly, the 2 point conversion. If the game was “decided” on any play, that was the one.

Cutler slowed as the ball fluttered out of his hand when he heard the whistle. If there’s no whistle, who knows, maybe he gets to the ball in time to pick it up or knock it to the sideline. Either way, we can’t woula-coulda-shoulda this game. Please don’t let this game get lost on a penalty, it was a classic game and easily the most exciting game since Seattle ’06.

Finally, what are your thoughts on this:

I think that San Diego got back into the game BECAUSE LT was hurt. Sproles was unreal and RIvers looked like a new QB. I was very impressed by the passing game. Denver sold out to stop the run, something we all said that they’d need to do to win, but I don’t think Denver counted on the passing game to be so dominant.

In the end, Cutler can’t throw that pick late in the 4th quarter, he was trying to make someting happen, but it was a huge mistake. If Denver kicks a FG, it’s 34-37 and Denver can kick to tie instead of go for the TD.

You have to say this morning, that Shanny’s got his groove back, and the only reason Denver goes for two…is because they CAN.

Gift Horses

You’re not meant to look a gift horse in the mouth to check its age (you can roughly tell a horse’s age by its teeth) as it implies that you’re being ungrateful by immediately assessing its value.

Anyways, back to football talk. Thanks for the classy post, Bolts, we all know that SD will likely recover from this anyway. It’s a blow, but it’s the sort of thing which can fire up a team for the rest of the season.

Given the referee’s position on the field when he blew the play dead – he was behind Cutler and to the left. The game moves so quickly and it’s not exactly usual for a ball to slip out backwards when being thrown forwards. He had to make a decision in a split second and, unfortunately for him, he chose wrong. Given his position, parallax error and the fact that Jay’s head probably obscured his vision of the throwing motion, I’d say that a lot of referees would make the same call. It really was a freak play in every way.

It looks like it is gone now. Haha. Love DaBolts, Thanks for your excellent insight.

I went over to his blog to try and talk some friendly smack and

a couple of the Padre fans(wish I wasn’t one now) were total a-holes. I ended up leaving and not going back. I got treated with far more respect by the Raider(caps because the guys there are classy) fans over on SABP. Since I think baseball is a pansies game anyway, I might switch to root for the Rockies from now on.

Wait, I just said that in a thread yesterday and everyone called me an a-hole.

Oh, nevermind. You shouldn’t beat a dead horse! If you can’t beat ‘em, join ’em! It ain’t over ‘til it’s over and such! Other random cliches! Broncos win! Kornheiser is the absolute worst piece of trash announcer that has ever “graced” the both! Go Marion Barber! He’s on my fantasy team!

And most of all: How bout them Padres?!

2-0.

Tip of the Hat for DaBolts

No whining, no smack, just “good win, we’ll get you next time.”

There are idiots in all fan bases, Broncos included. On the way out of the stadium, there were a couple class-less Bronco fans going at a few Chargers fans (verbally at least, with no provocation). Worst was one of the SD fans had a wife (girlfriend/etc)…wearing a CHAMP jersey. There wasn’t any need for that.

But this is the minority, as most were great. The best moment had to be my dad. The obvious fumble had just happened, and a few SD fans in front of us were fuming (I would be in that situation as well). Everyone is on edge…and my dad just starts laughing. I guess it’s the experience from watching strange things happen in sports over many decades, but it calmed everyone down. He started joking with the SD fans, explaining to them how potent the Jedi Mind Trick can be…which had them laughing as well. I’m sure they’re still pissed, but it definitely put the situation into perspective for everyone.

As much as it pains me to say this...

but you guys have a solid solid QB in Philip Rivers, DaBolts; I was impressed by many of his throws and his ability to move around in the pocket to buy more time.

Looking forward to many many more exciting games like yesterday’s against you guys … and yes, I do feel just a bit dirty for that win. =/

Rivers

Rivers played a great game. Now if he’d just learn to act like a decent human being on the sideline. I mean, it’s one thing to be jawing on the field, but leave it there.

The good news, if you’re a Broncos fan, is that after all the questionable calls and all the last second drama the Broncos proved that the Chargers are not going to be able to run away with the AFC West as they and the MSM had predicted. As we’ve all been saying at MHR, this Broncos team is a good team and is competitive with the presumed best in the division. There is still a lot of football to be played; however, I think the Broncos have already turned some heads and are back on the radar. And I don’t think they’ve played up to their full potential yet!

by UnarmingMermaid on Sep 15, 2008 2:56 PM MDT   0 recs

Oh...

and thanks for the classy congrats DaBolts!!! I can’t wait until the second SD game.

Both teams have a lot to feel good about.

Denver goes to 2-0. SD proves they still have a dynamic offense and STs.

Bottom line is that this ain't over

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we see them two more times this seasons. And that last game of the season, in SD?

Wow. Its gonna be intense. Chargers started this season a little sluggish in some areas. We just woke them back up.

Mountains, forest, sea: these render man fierce, but yet do not destroy the man.

by styg50 on Sep 15, 2008 4:33 PM MDT   0 recs

Agree, Styg, that's the big picture

I thought that too last night.

In the end, if someone told me 6 weeks ago that Denver wouldn’t just close the gap with the Bolts, but that they would be considered to be relatively equal opponents, I would have been thrilled. I would have been truly ecstatic to know that there is a reasonable shot at a potential division title. Not to say that Denver will get the West this year, but anyone who saw the game this week would agree that Denver’s chances to win an AFC title are reasonable, not probable, just reasonable.

The goal 3 weeks ago for 2008 was to close that gap with San Diego and to get to the playoffs.

By week 2, Denver has obvioulsy closed the gap. It remains to be seen if Denver can improve throughout the season and continue to score like they are while cutting down on giving up too many plays on defense and end up in the postseason. BUT, Denver has accomplished one of the goals for the season, and its only week two.

In my opinion, the Broncos are exceeding all expectations and have the look of a team not only on the rise, but of a very dangerous team for MANY years to come.

I think fans of other teams must look at Denver’s offensive lineup with envy. There’s a very real possibility that, although its a very limited sample, Denver should be considered the best offense in the NFL at this point.

by super7 on Sep 15, 2008 5:21 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

I'll use a quote from Bernie Lincicome here:

After week 4 last year, after we’d lost to the Colts and Jags big and beat the Bills and raiders on last second field goals, Bernie said something like this: “So far the Broncos have proven themselves to be on the same level as the Bills and raiders, somewhere below the Jaguars, and not even in the same league as the Colts.”

Well, this year so far we’ve proven that we are miles ahead of the conquered (by us) faders and at least on the same level as the Chargers. And I’ll take that.

2-0.

We should all try to show as much class as him when posting on other teams’ sites.

That game was insane. I was telling my Charger friend as the game was going on that I fully expect to see several big games from these two QBs.
