Slick balls
I'm not sure if this was already brought up in a comment thread, but does anyone think that the balls the NFL uses has anything to do with Cutler's fumble? It crossed my mind when Tony Romo essentially did the same thing in the end zone tonight resulting in an Eagles TD. I know the NFL has the special kicker balls, but I wonder if a similar problem of slick balls exists with the regular QB throwing balls. If so, this seems something the NFL should address. Seriously, unless your QB has small hands, it seems that a ball slipping out shouldn't happen on the NFL level.

A worthwhile article related to this
link (NY Times from Nov 2006)
Manning and his New England counterpart, Tom Brady, were the driving forces behind a rule change this season that allows visiting quarterbacks to break in a dozen balls for use during every game. The visiting team’s offense previously had to play with balls that were broken in by the home quarterback — a little-known aspect of the home-field advantage.
So there is no reason the balls should be too slick for the QB’s.

Cutlers got to break his balls in a little harder
or break enough to last past the second quarter. lol

It shouldn't be a problem anymore.
I think it was before last year that the league started allowing teams to bring their own balls to the games, thus allowing them to wear them out all they wanted. Back when I was a scout team QB, I loved throwing the old balls because they were so much easier to grip. Maybe the fumble problem has nothing to do with the league or the QB’s, but the ball-wearer-downers of the Broncos and Cowboys.
2-0.

Cutler did mention that the ball was a slick one
after the game. He needs to take better care of his balls… break those bad boys in!!

There is nothing funny about slick balls
as you saw, they are dangerous, when handled improperly.

Let's just be glad Jay
Doesn’t have a quick release… otherwise slick balls would be even more problematic.

You guys are the best...
though my question was sincere (I really did wonder about how slick the balls were), I did enjoy putting extra balls in the post. Glad to see that though we’ve grown older, we remain teenagers at heart. MHR rocks!
