ESPN's All-Time Franchise rankings
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=nflrankings/1-10/080917
Interesting read here, that I'm not sure I saw elsewhere here. I'm surprised that the MSM (if you can call ESPN that anymore), had us ranked where we were. What is really ironic is who is directly behind us. With the way things are going right now, if ESPN did this same rankings in the next 5-10 seasons, we could potentially be higher.

Strange, because I consider the 49ers to be one of the worst run franchises in th league today....

and the raiders for that matter too

But the rankings are an overview going back to the merger.
The Niners were the Patriots of the 1990’s, and the raiders were the Patriots of the paleozoic era.

Still...I'll take 30 years of consistent greatness over 10-15 years of dominance and 10-15 years of blowhardness

That's what the ESPN formula does.
It factors in wins over a period of time, not just a run on SBs. I think it’s a really good metric.

I don't think so. 49ers rank third
Yet they were a laughingstock from 70-79, were incredibley good from 80-99, and have been a laughingstock from 00-08. Thats’ 19 good years and 19 laughable years. The Broncos have had just 6 seasons under .500 since 1970. Which would you, as a fan, prefer?
That was my point.

SF went
from 1983-1998 with a streak of at least 10 wins. In 1970-71-72 they had won the BFC West and went to 2 NFC title games. They were awful from 1974-1980. They have 5 rings which goes a long way. Not trying to defend them. But their crappiness now is a direct correlation to the Yorks owning and running them and not DeBartolo

Over the space of all those years,
they have done very well.

The Niners were run terrifically
under Eddie DeBartolo, Jr. His sister Denise and her husband (Dr.) John York, are abysmal. The top 5 are the same as the “Top 5 Since 1978” that I reference all the time, which makes sense. The Broncos have both the most average wins, and the highest degree of consistency since the advent of the 16 game schedule.

I think the Broncos have moved into 3rd...considering how awful the 49ers and Dolphins have been this decade.

It was posted as a Fanshot...
No harm to post here, though…

fanshots really need a little more exposure somehow
I have to have my fanposts expanded to the maximum to keep up with them, and that just buries the fanshots.
I like the idea of a place for small posts and links, but maybe the place should more accurately reflect the content, i.e. maybe the placement should be small and convenient, like a scrolling widget, or a quick list or something…
Something for the SBNation boys to think about.

I agree....my fanpost list is maxed too.
I only keep up with fanshots because I post there rather frequently.

ooh, what about a fanshot ticker?
too much bandwidth? it could be pretty simple….

Or an option in your settings to list both fanshots and fan posts in on string ordered by date.

they would scroll off the page too fast
that would be jsut like not having fanshots and just having more fanposts.
Too much!! Too fast!!

The ticker idea could be good...but the site loads slowly already with all the stuff up there...
I just need to start using the fanpost tab, and fanshot tab. Easier than scrolling down forever to find the fanshots. lol

I recently had to max out the posts too.
I rarely catch the fanshots anymore because I’m so busy trying to scan every comment in the stories and posts!

I can see Dallas and most hated Pitburg rated higher than us...
but I have a problem with fins and 9’ers—we should be 3rd.

I am ok with it
Maybe I would possible switch Denver and Miami, but Pitt, Dallas, and SF all have more SB wins and have a history of being just as consistent as Denver. Really the success of the Broncos can date to 1973, Pitt has been a model of conisitency 3 HC’s since 1969.

It's fine
When they update it in 3 years we will have 2 more SB wins, 3 more years of playoff appearances, 3 more 10+ win seasons, and we’ll move up as Miami and the niners keep sucking.
