The Guru and Friends Predict Week 3

Each year, I have given my thoughts and expertise a run for their money by publicly making my picks for each game every week. To add a twist, the fine contributors of MileHighReport have agreed to do the same, along with my lovely wife, with the winner laying claim to the Title of "Best Game Picker On MHR Until Next Year..." or something like that.

My thanks to Styg50, HoosierTeacher, Zappa, MDierk and Melissa for agreeing to partake in a little bit of fun.  Without further ado, the picks --

Arizona over Washington

Arizona has a better offense then New Orleans( without Colston) and is better defensively than New Orleans. The Saints had a skeleton secondary last week, missing Mike Mckenzie, Randall Gay and Roman Harper. I need more proof that Jason Campbell is the guy he showed us in week 2, than the guy that was last year, and week 1.

To Clarify...

Washington played the Saints last week.

I am not sold on Arizona yet....

I consider them and Washington to be equals. I choose the home team. :)

I’ve reported him to the proper authorities…

Upset of the week

Detroit over SF, sorry but Detroit has to win at least two games this year and SF is awful, I really don’t think anyone should be allowed to go to the playoffs from the NFC West

I even thought the Raiders might take us in Week 1….ha! (I live in Sacramento, so the Raiders are local and the local koolaid fooled me too)

When you're 17-14...

…you have start taking calculated risks to give yourself a chance to get back in it.

Clevelands a good risk. ;-)

by UnarmingMermaid on Sep 18, 2008 1:43 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

yea, I may have taken too many calculated risks.

Being along with the TB and JAX picks is scary. Almost alone with the PIT pick also, but I think people are underestimating them as much as they underestimate the Broncos.

I’ll be happy as a clam if MIN, TB, JAX, and DEN all win this week.

Also hope Chargers lose again

is

“Don’t be surprised by your own picks.”

I really wish we were picking against the spread. I’m better at figuring out how teams will play eachother, not who will win…

I'm best when picking with confidence points...

…where one rates how sure he/she is of the pick. Close games or upsets may get a point or two, whle the sure things get more like 15 or 16 points.

I used to tear up the faculty pick ’em pool at my school.

I prefer the close games...

I win or lose the season based on close games. Week 1, I nailed it…Week 2, I bombed it.

I will not pick against the Broncos until we play the Jets.

I will pick the Jets only to stir up all the Brett Favre crap again. lol

In fact, I already have all three loses mapped out. We get Favre’d then lose to the Bills(revenge on us) and the stinkin’ Chargers. But we only lose to the Chargers because we already have the division and first round bye locked up. :P

The reason I picked the Jets this week is.....

Favre will find a way to get to the Chargers. San Diego is still grousing about the game in Denver so they are ripe for getting Favred Monday night.

I don't blame you

I mean with the way Cutler performed against their secondary Sunday, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Favre do the same. Besides he is 5-0 vs SD. On the other hand it is at home and the Chargers are going to come out pissed. Should be interesting and I will be a Favre fan for one night.

I don’t think the Vikes will be the Panthers despite having a new QB on Sunday. The Panthers are looking good and they get Steve Smith back.

I think

Denver has better WR/TE’s that were a better match against the Chargers. Favre maybe a gunslinger (hate him I really do) but he doesnt have the weapons Jay does. So while it wouldnt surprise me I expect Sd to kick the crap out of them. Basically because they cant afford to start out 0-3 and fall 3 games back of Denver this early

however I won’t be surprised if he has a good day. He seems to do well on primetime.

I think you over-estimate the power of Favre

The fact is he barely beat one of the worst teams in the NFL in the Dolphines (watch what the Cardinals did to them last week) and then can’t beat a New England team minus Tom Brady with a very old and pedestrian defense, the Jets don’t have any recievers and I really doubt their defense will be able to stop the Chargers. Just an opinion though, that’s why they play the game.
