Great guy, terrible DB
FINALLY! I respectfully breathe a sign of relief at the overdue trade of #22.. Has everyone forgotten the AFC Championship game of 2005? I've since seen a re-air on nfl network where they mix in audio from the sideline conversations and there was big Ben talking with his recievers coach - pointing out that wherever #22 was it was wide open! They were both laughing! Fast forward to the pre-season this year where Foxworth couldn't seem to come within five yards of making a play on the ball on team's 4th, 5th or 6th reciever.. you watch down in Atlanta.. opposing offences will continue to scorch him for countless uncontested yardage! Bly is next to go..

I also saw Dre' Bly holding onto recievers like a mosiquito trying to tackle a Buffalo
I really think we will be regretting this trade in three years when Bly is gone, Paymah is a bust, and Williams is exposed as undersized.

Jack Williams is a ball hawk though...and is unafraid of being physical...
something a certain starter lacks.

I am sooooo confused now
I have been reading where this is actually a good thing, but Bly is still here. I liked Foxworth a lot more than Bly. But I guess thats why I am a fan, and not a coach

A lot of opinions (even coachs' opinions) are opinions.
Very few CBs have it all. Tackling, intercepting, speed, smarts, etc. Champ is a very, very rare specimen.
So what you have to look at is combinations of those things (and other variables), and see what kind of mix you like. Opinions will vary greatly, and even coaches will disagree.
For example, I love Bly. While I personaly don’t value hands (INTs) so much, he and Bailey each led the NFL for several years (#2 and #1) in INTs. So while hands aren’t my biggest issue, the guy is amazing at INTs (when he has someone covering OVER the WR, which we in Denver haven’t been giving him in terms of deep SAFs). What he has in hands and speed, he lacks in tackles. But that isn’t the kind of CB he is. He gives a team an excellent chance at batted balls and INTs, but this is a high risk approach. He is better at it than most any CB, but the way to use him is to have that deep SAF on his side of the field.

CB's
Louis Wright was a top notch corner for the Broncos in the 70’s – 80’s (and IMO, the best corner we’ve ever had) but he couldn’t catch a ball for love or money. But he didn’t let the oppo catch the ball either.

Some things I also think may have led to him being traded
This is a contract year for both Foxworth and Paymah, I seriously doubt Bly will be back next year, a lot of people figured we would not be able to resign both Paymah and Foxworth next year as both would want starting CB money (assuming Bly is let go), that being the case, the Broncos may have figured Paymah could be signed for less than foxworth and if they were going to lose Foxworth then try to get something for him.
Jack Williams may be a ballhawk, but he has been going against 3rd and 4th stringers, I am curious if he would have that much success against Indy or New England in a 4 WR set? I hope he does, but I think we have to be somehwta guarded and realize running back a pick for a TD in preseason against a bunch of guys who will be looking for jobs in two weeks a tad diffrenet then playing in the regular season against the best of the best.

Bly is better than he gets credit for
He would start for all but about 5 teams in the NFL right now. We all remember him getting beat by Greg Jennings in overtime, and I’m sure that’s the reason for the generally harsh sentiment toward him, but he was clearly expecting safety help over the top that didn’t get there. He’s good in man-to-man coverage, far above average in the NFL.
He’s a below-average tackler, definitely, but very few CBs have the whole package like Champ Bailey and Nnamdi Asomugha have. Take a look at DeAngelo Hall in Oakland this year; he’s a young Dre Bly in all facets of the game.
I think HT and I may be the only people who like Bly (if he still likes Bly,) but I am sticking to my guns. He’s much more asset than liability, and I like the stated plan to move him inside on the slot this year, with Paymah replacing him outside in Nickel situations. It’s a good use of Paymah’s size outside.
As an aside, I love Jack Williams, and I think he was a steal in the 4th round. I would really like to see him match up against Wes Welker, and I think he’d do just fine.

Champ got beat in that game as well
because he was having to look into the offensive backfield to see if they were going to run because our D line and LBs couldn’t stop it, so I wouldn’t say that is the reason that I don’t like Bly.
I’ve been neutral on Bly until the pre-season game against Green Bay this year when there were two opportunities for us to get off the field on a 3rd down and both times, he missed tackles that led to a first down.
Though I’m upset that we traded Foxy, now that I see the numbers, I can see that it makes sense to get something for him now versus waiting until next year and (if we weren’t able to re-sign him) lose him and get nothing in return. I still wished that he could have had the opportunity to teach Bly how to tackle before he left, though.

My sentiments exactly!
Foxy is a great guy. He just gets abused a lot. I wish him the best.
