The Guru and Friends Predict Week 4
Each year, I have given my thoughts and expertise a run for their money by publicly making my picks for each game every week. To add a twist, the fine contributors of MileHighReport have agreed to do the same, along with my lovely wife, with the winner laying claim to the Title of "Best Game Picker On MHR Until Next Year..." or something like that.
My thanks to Styg50, HoosierTeacher, Zappa, MDierk and Melissa for agreeing to partake in a little bit of fun. Without further ado, the picks --

I should have taken San Francisco....oh well.
I’m always paranoid I am on the same juice the locals around here are on, so I avoid taking Oakland or SF as much as possible. ;-)

Shocker of the week or wishful thinking?

I will go with
Melissa, she is doing the best outside of Zappa. (HT also)
Do you (zappa and styg) really think Gus Iamf*ckingrotten is good enuff to beat Tenn? I was unsure about that game. But I took the home team. I think SF may upset NO.

I got be momentum a lot of the times.
Minnesota is a talented football team. More so than I think the Titans. The win last week against an undefeated Carolina team may just give the Vikings the boost they need to say, “Hey, let’s go out and take down another undefeated team!”. I may be wrong, but it’s a chance I was willing to take this week. Can’t always go for the favorite if you want to win it all. ;-)
As for San Francisco…I am already second guessing my pick there, but everyone else took N.O. so I won’t lose any sleep over it. :)

I would not change
your pick on SF, Its just feeling. I hade 9 of those season and those 9 feeling out favorite team lost.
Honestly, do you think the faders have a chance against SD? I feel if they can run the rock they could help the Broncos out

I said I will root for the Raiders against the Chargers, but I am in this pick'em thing to win so I picked the Chargers.

I might be going down hard this week
I’m taking a lot of chances this week on teams that I think are better than they have played so far. The status quo will have to change if I’m going to have a good week.
For fun I put some additional formulas onto the end of my power ranking spreadsheet, and let the computer pick the games (not the picks above, a separate list I emailed to Zappa). The computer had the TB/GB game as a push (amazing when you figure that it calculates out to three decial places), and the NO/SF game had the niners favored by one point. I particularly liked the score for the Denver game: 93-7. It also had TEN, CIN, JAX winning by 2 or more scores. The computer is smarter than I am, methinks…
And once again I have selected Baltimore. Has no one watched Baltimore play or what? Why are mdierk and I the only ones who ever select them?

I have not seen them play and if they win this week I will become a believer.

True,
however if some of your teams win then will definatly make up ground. I don’t really see HOU, CLE, and BAL winning this week.
It is a fairly tight race so far with Guru trailing by three..

I hope I can catch up this week....my week 3 was disaster!
If it wasn’t for Guru, I would have resigned by now.

Hey, my Week 2 was a disaster too. This early in the season it hurts, but as long as you maintain consistency you'll be hanging around towards the end. ;-)
Guru needs to stay the course and be patient. If he panics too early, he’ll find himself too far behind to hope to make up the difference. Judging by his picks, he is being patient and staying the course.
Besides, I think you played Week 3 the right way. When you are leading, you can take the additional risks by picking more than the normal upset picks. It’s a high risk, high reward type of situation. Unfortunately, you lost on almost all of them…but you also had a two game lead so now you are only a few games out of first. Sometimes a risky play doesn’t work out.
My problem is, I tend to panic too soon or if I jump out to a lead I tend to become too bold. I’m am making a concerted effort to be consistent…you all are just too good at this for me to be careless. :)

Perhaps that's why their called risks?

yea, I was just trying to give mdierk a pep talk and I feel a little
bad for talking so much crap last week. If’ i had known he was going to get screwed on every risky pick he made I wouldn’t have talked so much and hexing him like that. Plus I am trying to build up positive feelings around me so I do well this week. ;)

styg as the lone pick of baltimore...
My choice too. I just see their D as being too much for a slapped around steelers team.

I'm guessing
more of a beat-down than the Eagles gave them…

I would have picked the ravens, but they don't have an offense like Philly.

I saw Baltimore play
I also saw Pitt give up 9 sacks, and I’m picking Bal. Flacco is a rookie, but the Ravens had to be licking their chops.

Guru?
You better step it up or you’ll have to change your name to ‘Somewhat Knowledgable Sports Guy’!!! SKSG just doesn’t have the same ring to it. C’mon dude!!! ;-)

Ohhhh, the gauntlet has been thrown at the feet of TSG!
It’s not his fault really, if he hadn’t picked Cleveland all those times he’d be right in the thick of things. Naughty naughty.
lol, I really should switch to the Browns cause now that Guru has picked against them they’re gonna win. heheheh
Guru will come in second place this week because of his Arizona pick. I, of course, finish first again. ;-)

ONly picked the Browns twice...
And they should have won both times, if they had a head coach that knew a football from a Cinnabon….
Anyway, now that the Browns are in full-blown QB controversy mode, they are in deep, deep trouble….

If you had picked them this week, Iwould have started to call you Brownie. :P
The Browns will be better of long term if they give the reigns to Brady Quinn now and forever. Just do it already….that’s just my opinion. :)

That's how you really move up.
I think the CLE/CIN game can be somewhat of a coin flip, however the Bengals are the better of the two bad teams and I think they’ll take this one. Baltimore I am not sold on beating PIT even though Big Ben had some trouble. The one I think he might have a chance to win is the MIN/TEN game. Tennessee is a good team, however the Vikings might have a chance to eek one out here.
