Arrowhead Stadium; House of Horrors

I am still angry about yesterday, but I also felt I needed to add some historical perspective to this game and therefore downplay the horrible outing for our football team.  The Denver Broncos are now 13-35 when playing away games against the Chiefs franchise.  Arrowhead Stadium only opened in 1972, so it really can't be the reason for away games being a horrific excursion nearly every year.

That said, Arrowhead Stadium has become our House of Horrors each and every season.  Our most successful run was during the Orange Crush days when we won five games in six years and that came after losing the previous fourteen.  John Elway, our greatest of field generals, was a respectable 6-10 in Arrowhead Stadium.  Mike Shanahan is now a less than respectable 3-11.

The Denver Broncos will now be called out as a pretender to the AFC West crown by all the "experts" and our power rankings will plummet.  Look for the 2-2 Chargers to surpass us even though they barely dispatched the Raiders this week and that we are 1-0 against the Chargers.  I doubt our beloved Broncos even remain in the top 10.  In any case, we should not be discouraged.  The only thing that happened, was we lost in Arrowhead for the 35th time in 48 tries.

We lost 37-10 in our Super Bowl run in 1986 and we also lost 24-22 in our Super Bowl run in 1997.  We even lost the two times we advanced to the AFC Championship game without getting to the Super Bowl.  In 1990, we lost 31-20 and in 2005, we lost 31-27.  Arrowhead Stadium IS the House of Horrors for the Denver Broncos.  We are still 3-1, we have a 1.5 game lead on the Chargers and it is now time to completely focus on the 3-1 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

If my tirade above wasn't a big enough dose of perspective for you, here is a visual account of that perspective:
