Week 1 of the 2008 NFL Season has officially begun with a yawer last night between the Giants and Redskins. Is the Giants defense that good or the Redskins offense that bad??
As for the Broncos, they are still preparing for the Raiders Monday Night. Can it get here any faster???
Here are some nuggets to chew on with your Orange and Blue Coffee --
Javon Walker's status for Monday Night is still in question, as is his career.
Boss Bailey has pronounced himself healthy and ready to go for Monday Night
Broncos' opponents are going to be looking for a weak link along a young O-Line.
There will be alot of youth on display in 2008 for the Broncos.

Question for East Coasters...
Who else plans on taking a late afternoon nap AND plans to take off Tuesday from work for the Broncos game? I loved the 7PM (EDT) start time last night for the Skins/Giants game. If only all night games started then or 8 at the latest.
man im getting old…

Both of you have committed blasphemy...
You will need to say a Hail Mary for every point scored this Monday by the Broncos and acost yourself for every point scored by the faders. :P

I work third shift
so I’m taking off Monday night in order to watch the game. I’ll do the same when we play New England.

Well being in the PST is nice
I am just glad they didn’t have the early game, but if I was on the EST I would make it through.

Hmmmm...
Being in Alaska I may need to get up early to watch this one…
In all seriousness, I may have to leave late saturday night or early saturday morning, and won’t be back until wednesday! :( I am holding onto the weekend like a bulldog right now, but I’m afraid I’m just making it worse…

You kidding me?
The start time is great for us West Coasters! I actually get to watch the whole game. I’ve long maintained that people on the East Coast can always stay up later on select Mondays of their choosing but people on the West Coast can’t get off of work early for MNF. I’m tired of missing the first half. Lord knows I’ve risked my life enough time speeding through gridlocked LA traffic to make it to a sportsbar to make it before the start of the second half….
Yesterday’s game started at 4! Rediculous!

I have Tuesday off!
The Broncos game kicks off at 3.15 Tuesday morning over here and I can’t wait! I’m gonna power nap after getting in from work on Monday, have a little Green Bay appetiser and a Bronco main course!
I’ll be hitting the sack for real about the same time the rest of the house and the cats are waking up!
and the sing along songs will be our scriptures - we gotta stay positive!

This is why I am glad I live on the west coast.
I am fortunate I don’t have to really worry about when primetime games start. The only thing I am worried about since the game is on ESPN is that I hope they don’t bring some person in the booth to chat with while the game is going on.

Agreement
No I agree wholeheartedly. On top of listening to crappy commentary from ESPN, it will be pushing when the game ends. I’m moving back to California in a year and cannot wait until the time comes when I get home from work and football is on.

I hate it when...
the Broncos play at night, period, and this late start makes it even worse.
I want the Broncos to play on Sunday afternoon, Mountain Time, like God intended.

The 4-letter network
coverage is going to make me sick the entire night. Is it Mike3 again this year? At least we can look forward to Dikta scratching himself on tv!

it already is
On the radio Ryen Riscillo already picked the faders, as has Eric Allen (who was Elways b*tch), Mort (who has never gotten story correct), and that buffon Hoge. (the concussions are still affecting him). I refuse to listen to the pre-game on ESPN. But I will be at a bar watching the best team in the AFC West. LOUD AND PROUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL!
I remember seeing Ditka do that last year and my life had a good laugh as he grabbed a full handful and moved it around on TV.
It won’t be Tony on this game fortunately…he’s like nails on a chalk board to me. I have to mute it a lot rather than hear about a QB’s girl friend, pithy jokes, or other stupid comments.

Think he'll be active this week?
I’ve just been wondering who’s going to be on the inactive list for this week.

Polumbus to LT
Just noticed an interesting move — Polumbus is now listed at LT rather than RT, which is where they listed him yesterday. Whether this means he’ll be on the active list for the Raiders’ game or not is still an open question (I would think only Pears will be), but I think it obviously points towards where they’ll be using him in the future, as well as where Pears will be used — at RT.
Although it may seem like a trivial fact, it says that the Broncos see Polumbus as the superior pass blocker, and this could also mean that his position is somewhat more secure with the team, especially since Pears is in the last year of his contract. In previous threads, I’ve speculated on what it would mean if the Broncos kept 2 reserve OTs — which they did. Using an untested rookie to backup a rookie is unwise, which could be why Pears is still on the roster. However, Polumbus’ presence on the roster may indicate that the coaching staff believe he’s the better OT, if not now then in the future, and Pears’ future with the team after this year may be uncertain because of contractual considerations and the need to upgrade.
I think it will be significant if Polumbus is not put on the inactive list this week and in future games since it shows that the Broncos want to give him experience. To my knowledge, there isn’t a great need for OLs on STs and other positions contribute much more there, so I consider the active list for OLs to be particularly significant regarding the Broncos’ plans for the OT position.

I may be wrong
but I think Polumbus, Kuper and Pears can all play Guard or Tackle. It gives Dennison a lot more flexability.

Not sure about Polumbus & Pears playing OG
Kuper is certainly able to fill in at RT, but I’m not sure about the other two. Ideally speaking, reserves on the OL for games need to fill in for more than one position, and play some STs (of course).
I can’t claim much knowledge here, as I’ve said before, I know almost nothing about STs. Someone does need to block for punts & FGs but there are a number of players who can do that adequately and do punt coverage, too. OLs on the active list are emergency depth mostly, thus the need to keep their numbers down and keep more useful STs participants on the active list.
You may be right about Pears and Polumbus playing guard, and versatility is a must on the OL, but I can’t remember seeing anything on it (although I may have).

I liked Steiger at both guards this year
He may end up being our future at Center, but a lot of teams wanted to pencil him in as their next guard – powerful, short arms and all, and a wonderfully nasty streak. I loved the tape I got to see on him – perfect attitude for a guard ;D
