THE MISSING RINGS (NFL Net)
Last night sitting at home watching the NFL Network, I saw a commercial for new episodes in the "AMERICAS GAME" series titled "The Missing Rings". WOW! How awesome is that? Finally a little recognigtion for those AFC Championships the Broncos held before being bruttaly smacked down in the Superbowl. Of course there was the conflict I had inside about bringing up those horrible losses we endured. But, those were great seasons! We had good teams (not great - getting gutted on national TV downgrades us from great), heck we had the fumble, the drive.... Even the 1977 season had a little magic! (so I'm told... I was -2 years old when it happened, but am making up for it by reading Terry Frei's book " '77" - a good read but I digress). Man, we have four missing rings! This series is tailor made for us right? Right?
So today at work, instead of working, I did a little surfing to find out more about it. There are only five episodes that they've commissioned for the missing rings series. 5! Okay, well let me see which ones they are....
Emmy Award-winning 'America's Game' returns to NFL Network
» 1969 Minnesota Vikings
» 1981 San Diego Chargers
» 1988 Cincinnati Bengals
» 1990 Buffalo Bills
» 1998 Minnesota Vikings
Are you kidding me? Yet another swift kick to the pills for us Broncos Fans! Sure, we've been in 1 of every 7 superbowls (mathamatically speaking). Sure, we had some great seasons... But not as great as the Vikings... The Chargers? Dan Freaking Fouts? You are kidding me, right? The Bills? Give me a break here guys... Not to sound like an Al Davis conspiracy theorist, but damn it at least give us Bronco fans something for enduring those awful scarring losses. The five teams above? Their seasons meant something even though they didin't win it... Just check out the HOFers they've generated! Our losses? Well.... A loss is a loss is a loss... Now and for the forseeable future.

The 1998 Vikings disgusts me...
so these idiots think that team would have beaten the Denver Broncos of 1998? Arguably one of the greatest teams every to take the field of play???? Puhlease…they couldn’t even handle the Atlanta “freakin” Falcons….we destroyed them

who else
would be able to spark my memories on so many great things that have happened. I mean just with the opener on MNF reminds me of the 1986 opener in Denver against these same faders. I was lucky to actually be in attendance in of Mr. Elways comeback wins. Let me tell you the electricty in the crowd when he would trot onto the field was indescribable.

i can only imagine it was 100 times more intense than the
tingly sensation of near blacking out feeling I got just watching the game on TV. lol
For that reason I hope Cutler has to have some late game heroics….of course, the stadium will be so quiet our guys will be able to hear me cheering for them. lol

Bengals and Bills I am Ok with but..
You should at least make it to the Super Bowl to call it missing rings, by that logic we might as well throw in the 1995 Broncos who lost to J-Ville in the playoffs, that team was better than the others they have mentioned. I for one have been a champion of the NFL network, I remember having the idea for an all football network after seeing the Food Network, my wife and friends called me crazy, yet here we are, but I think the NFL network needs to start looking at some history a little closer.
I want to see an hour long documentary on the worst teams of all time, first episode: 2006 Oakland Raiders.

No no no...they can't do 1995 since that would be a slap in the face to their demi-god Brett Favre.
The 1996 Packers were the best team ever to play a game in all of history…didn’t you know that?!?!?
As for worst teams of all-time…1978 Tampa Bay Bucs, then the 1998 Chargers. :)

dont forget
the 2000 1-15 chargers, or the 2001 Panthers started out 1-0 and then lost their next 15. Or the 1972-73 Houston Oilers who was 1-13 in EACH of those seasons. or the 1962 1-13 faders

We haven't had anything less than a 5 win season since 1971
not counting the strike shortened bullcrap in 1982. And if we counted that 82 crap, we’ve only had 6 losing seasons since 1972.
The faders have had 12 losing seasons since 1972.
The Cowboys have had 10 losing seasons since 1972.
The 49ers have had 15 losing seasons since 1972.
The Patriots have had 13 losing seasons since 1972.
The Colts have had 18 losing seasons since 1972.
The Chargers have had 17 losing seasons since 1972.
The Chiefs have had 16 losing seasons since 1972.
The Bills have had 17 losing seasons since 1972.
The Bengals have had 18 losing seasons since 1972.
The Giants have had 18 losing seasons since 1972.
So tell me, who is elite here? I’ve included teams I think get more respect by the east coast bias than the Broncos.
*Note: Vikings not included becuse they are elite with only 8 losing seasons since 1972. ;)

That's insane.
I mean look at the 49ers and Cowboys who were both very successfull in that time period and they have more losing seasons then we’ve had. Dude, the 49ers had more than double the amount of losing season than we did.
Very intersting Zappa, I totally had no idea that some of those numbers were that high.

It’s from when we lost to Detroit last year…. Some site had a bunch of dispondent Bronco fans pics… I believe my avatar is weeping… Not for the loss to Detroit… But for um… Floyd Little, Karl Mecklenberg, Randy Gradishar and every bronco who’s been hosed by the HOF.

79 Rams, 79 Oilers, and 93 Oilers
Three other teams that they should do an episode of that show on are the 79 Rams, 79 Oilers, and 93 Oilers. The 79 Rams were 9-7 that year, but they finally got to the SB after 6 years of having great teams and coming up short. They almost beat the Steelers that year in the SB. The 79 Oilers were pretty good, but they had to get by Pittsburgh, no easy task. That was the year when Renfro was jobbed in the back of the end zone near the end of the 3rd quarter. If he gets that TD and they tie the game at 17, who knows what would have happened. Finally, I think that the 93 Oilers should be discussed as well. I don’t care about what anyone says about the overrated Cowboys, but from 91-93 Houston, in my opinion, was the most talented team in the league. They had a long winning streak going into the 93 playoffs, but they lost to Montana and KC. I still remember the 91 game against Denver in the playoffs when they went up 21-6. I was thinking that we were going to get run out of the stadium and that it would get real ugly real fast. But, Houston’s lack of character and killer instinct always seemed to surface. I am glad Denver came back and won, but it is ashame to see a team like that with all that talent not reach their potential, especially because we had to see Dallas and the stupid Bills go to the SB those years instead. I would have loved to see an Oiler SB in those days.

Isnt this show obvious?
“The Missing Rings” and the teams that are featured are all teams that have been to the Super Bowl more than once and never won with the exception of San Diego. I don’t know why SD is included, because the only team missing from the more than once loser list is the Eagles.
Cmon guys, this isnt a shaft against Denver, I mean get a life. Why not all the other teams that are missing rings, NE lost 3, Dallas 3, Miami 3 and so on. Just because Denver lost 4 like Buffalo and Minnesota, Im sure those teams would be glad to trade places with Denver. Dont sweat it.

The Chargers have never won a Super Bowl....they lost the only one they went too.
Perhaps I am misunderstanding there.

They have only been to one.
All the other teams have been to multiple Super Bowls and never won. I think that was the point of the show, but I have never watched it so I can’t be sure.
I think some of us tend to overreact at anything the mass media produces, and I definately have a tendency to do this, but I don’t think this is anti-Bronco. Remember, there are teams and fans that have suffered much, much more than we have.
I could be wrong, but I believe a Raider is an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era.

Well
the 81 chargers and 98 vikings never even went to the superbowl. I think its about great teams that never made it to the superbowl, or the teams were upset in the superbowl. the 69 Vikings like the 68 colts were the class of the NFL and were upset. The 90 Bills were a better team until their defense could not stop the run in #25 and the 88 Bengals should have smacked SF, but when Stanley Wilson was found in a crack house before the game and was suspended that changed everything. ahhh the good ol days when Cincy was decent

i think
there have been some great NFL teams that have come up short, I didnt think of it as a slight that Denver wasnt included here. Heck how about the 1967 Colts. They were 11-1-2 and missed the playoffs, the list the tie breaker to the Rams. Then the rams went to GB and lost 27-7. GB eventually killed the faders in SB 2. I also would include the 1980 Browns, known as the cardiac kids with Brian Sipe. There are a ton of great teams in the NFL hsitory that never made the playoffs.
