Denver Broncos Name Captains For 2008
The Denver Broncos on Friday selected their captains for the 2008 season, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced.
Broncos players voted quarterback Jay Cutler and tight end Daniel Graham as offensive captains along with cornerback Champ Bailey and linebacker D.J. Williams as defensive captains.
The club also voted tight end/long snapper Mike Leach as its special teams captain for Monday night's season opener against the Oakland Raiders. The Broncos' special teams captain for each game will change on a weekly basis.

Wow...isn't there usually an O-line representative?

Well...
…Graham is about two-thirds lineman anyway…

If it helps the officials recognize them, as in when a timeout needs to be called, it's good

I agree that it's better to have the patches.
But they look really dumb. I would be happy with a nice white Broncos font C, not a standard giant thing in a box with some stars on the bottom.
I could be wrong, but I believe a Raider is an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era.

Not trying to say anything bad about the guy at all but...
I am a little surprised by Daniel Graham…but then again it is a pretty young offensive group in terms of both league and Bronco tenure.

As was I
I’m marking this one up to “we just don’t know everything that goes on behind closed doors.” Graham has Super Bowl experience, and from the sounds of his sideline interview during the Arizona game he is deeply committed to the team. Kudos to him!

Does that speak to the fact Nalen won't be back
As long as I can remember Nalen has been a Captain. I am fine with Graham, he is a 2nd generation Bronco, his blood lines run deep and he is experienced.

why baggin on Graham?
Just because he hasnt been here more than 3 years? Does anyone here know anyhting about him? FYI he was a Capt at CU. That tells me something about his leadership

I'm with Graham.
Too many folks love receiving TEs so much that they don’t get the value of a masterful blocking TE (though I think Graham will get a few catches this year). Graham is (in my opinion) one of the top TEs in the League (the top blocking TE for sure), is a presence and leader in the locker room, and devoted to the team.
I endorse his captainship for this game.

Says good about Graham
The players pick the captains, so that’s that. Says Graham has been accepted as a leader after one year with the team. Hey, the Jets named Favre and Faneca as O captains, even though neither was with the team last year.
while yet unspoken, you are master of the word. After it is spoken, the word is master of you.

That does bode well for Graham.
I am sure that everybody on the team is a leader in some aspect, however it is always nice to know that the whole team thinks so.
I guess Cutler and Champ will have two of their stars colored since this is their second year as captain.

Leach??
Is no one going to recognize the significance of naming Leach for this game? The guy is nothing short of phenominal. He snaps for punts, field goals and extra points. He is the emergency back-up punter, the emergency fourth-string quarterback and still plays his position of Tight End both blocking and receiving.

Congrats to DJ for being the other defensive Captain.

Good for Leach
With all the problems we’ve had the last couple years—think about it—long snapper is the only area of our entire game where we had no problems.
