Denver Broncos Release Dylan Gandy
Denver Broncos on Tuesday waived guard Dylan Gandy, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced.
Gandy, a fourth-year player, originally joined the Broncos as a free agent on May 16 after spending his first three seasons with Indianapolis.
He was inactive for the Broncos' season opener at Oakland on Monday.

Well there goes the theory of releasing that DT Shaw

My theory, too
I thought it was a nicer way of softening the blow when Marshall returned; instead of saying McKinley cut to make room for Marshall you can say Shaw, who nobody knows, was cut. I’m adopting a new theory — they’ll cut anyone at the bottom of the roster and acquire players as they see fit. The untouchable players are safe but the bottom of the roster has to produce or else they’re out. There are a few other players that I can think of that may be shown the door before the end of the season.

more moves
Ten OLs seemed a bit much, but I think Lichtensteiger — who saw time last night as a FB in an unusual red zone package — has alleviated concerns over the lack of depth in the interior OL.
BTW — I think it’s very interesting that Polumbus was active but Pears wasn’t last night.
Also, Moss’ inactive status doesn’t bode well for him, although it does make sense given we have 5 DEs.

Good Point
Aside from a fun VFB, he mus make people more comdfortable with the guard position
Interesting thing on Pears, though. They draft Clady for LT, revive Harris for RT. Next, Polumbus is active and Pears isn’t – I suspect that he’s on the way out and they like the young guys on the O line. Just my suspicious nature, though.

Hasn't Pears been suffering from back trouble or something?
Maybe that has something to do with his inactive status for the game.

He was, but they took him off the injury list
Maybe it’s the inactivity that has left him behind.
Also, players are often injured even though we’re not told so I take injury lists with a grain of salt and have suspected that he’s still struggling with his injury.

OL
RE: Pears. I’m really not sure what’s going on with Pears, although his lack of playing time is significant, whether it’s the result of nagging health problems (back) or being outplayed but Polumbus. I actually posted on this subject beforehand so it’s a situation that I’ve been paying close attention to.
Just noticed an interesting move — Polumbus is now listed at LT rather than RT, which is where they listed him yesterday. Whether this means he’ll be on the active list for the Raiders’ game or not is still an open question (I would think only Pears will be), but I think it obviously points towards where they’ll be using him in the future, as well as where Pears will be used — at RT.
…Pears’ future with the team after this year may be uncertain..
I think it will be significant if Polumbus is not put on the inactive list this week and in future games since it shows that the Broncos want to give him experience. .. ..I consider the active list for OLs to be particularly significant regarding the Broncos’ plans for the OT position.
It’s possible to put too much meaning on these events, but it certainly looks like Pears’ stock is falling while Polumbus’ is rising. And I speculated on this general subject in my posts on who would make the final roster.

I'm not so sure Pears has regressed
but he might have lost ground relatively speaking amongst an o-line group that has gotten dramatically better really fast. When I read an article the other day that called the Broncos’ o-line a disaster area I knew immediately that they hadn’t been keeping up but were just going by last year. And maybe they knew Nalen was out but didn’t realize it’s not as diastrous for us this year as it was last year. It’s amazing how rapidly the o-line has gone from a (temporarily) suspect unit to one that is both strong and deep, and that is going to get even better.

Brandon Marshall
Didn’t Marshall already count against the 53? Are we releasing Gandy to make room for Marshall? Marshall was not on the inactive list. Could we be looking to add someone from another team’s practice squad? Will someone who knows this stuff explain please?

I don't believe Marshall counted on the 53 man roster this week

Marshall was on a suspended list
meaning he did not count against our roster number.

Marshall
Marshall did not count against the 53 man roster. Broncos had to decide: Gandy or Marshall???
