Grading the Rookie Receivers of 2008 - and their fantasy impact

Anyone who has played fantasy football knows that drafting rookies and expecting a fantasy impact in their first year is a hit or miss proposition.  The 2008 season was no different than any other with rookie wide receivers, who are known to have a bigger impact in their second or third year - and that theory held true again in 2008.

The Fantasy Sports Forum grades the top rookie wide receivers from 2008, with the round and overall position on where they were drafted.  Each player received a grade based on their fantasy impact.  The players are listed in the order of where they were picked in the NFL Draft.

Star-divide

Eddie Royal, Broncos: 2/42
An impressive training camp thrust Royal into a starting role from the first week.  He played in 15 games and quickly showed that he is the real deal (how about a Royal Flush?) catching 91 balls for 980 yards and five TDs.  He was a great late round value and/or early season free agent pick-up.
Grade: A

I actually bet my friend who is a diehard Eagles fan that Eddie was going to be better than DeSean this year

He called me the day of the draft and said Denver messed up big time…DeSean was a stud an the Eagles were going to pounce on him. He was right about the Eagles pouncing on him but way off on how good Eddie Royal was going to be. I had a feeling by how strong he was that Shanny was right about his upside…Great find by Goodman and Xander.

My 2008 Championship Fantasy Football team
Cutler – Rogers – QB
Marshall, Royal, White, TO and D. Jackson – WR
Jones-Drew, R. Brown, J. Lewis, McClain – RB
Gates – Scheffler – TE
Eagles – D
Gotkowski or however you spell the NE kicker

The draft day blockbuster trade. I had the fourth overall pick and drafted Stephen Jackson, later in the draft I took Eli Manning after missing out on Cutler… Knowing Cutler would be dynamic, I traded S. Jackson and Eli Manning for Cutler and T. O. – Dominated the league in points and record!! I love FF.

Meh.

Did you know that over 500 people die at the hooves of the Wildebeest each year? Bet you didn’t (not because I just made that up.)

These are the people I gave rings to:
QB- Aaron Rodgers, Tyler Thigpen, Ben Roethlisberger
RB- Michael Turner, Marion Barber, Tashard Choice, Jamal Lewis
WR- Roddy White, Donald Driver, Lance Moore, Derrick Mason
TE- Tony Gonzalez, Zach Miller
D/ST- Vikings, Cardinals
K- Rian Lindell, Garrett Hartley

Others I played: Fred Jackson, Sidney Rice, Cedric Benson, Muhsin Muhammad, Devin Hester

MVP- 1)Michael Turner
          2)Roddy White
          3)Aaron Rodgers

Times beaten Zappa- 3.
Biggest victory over Zappa- 141-91.

I can deal with bears....sharks on the other hand.......of course, I am not talking about if I were menstrual(I’m a guy so that isn’t it), but yeah. I can deal with bears if my arm or something was bleedin’, but sharks? I’ll pass on those. The worst feeling in the world is to be out in the surf and feel something very large brush up against your leg as you were alone waiting for your next wave. I don’t think I’ve gone out past waist deep in the ocean since. lol It was probably just a damn dolphin or something, but yeah. Screw sharks and the evolutionary train they rode in on!

Dude my Squba Squad killed the Wildbeests Rodger was on my bench, you best receiver was my third

you got me at RB and TE, my kicker was better…nice season though Papi!!

Papi, we should think of a way to create a Madden link so that we can all play our Broncos against each other, with all the trades you want, my Broncos are loaded as I am sure yours are….and as Zappa elluded too I wouldn’t mind seeing what his skills are in Madden, I and I mean that as a player because I think he created himself to suit up!!

Lol- I would if I had Madden.

I traded my month-old copy for my friend’s brand-new Fallout 3. Good trade, methinks.

My Broncos kicked ass though. I went 15-1 in 2011 (that was my best year) and won the Super Bowl in 2010 and 2011. I traded my game halfway through 2012; I was 6-0. I traded Champ in 2009 to the Dolphins for 1st and 3rd round picks. With those, I nabbed a DT named Lucas Spears in the first. He went on to have 8.5 sacks in 2011. I got a MLB with my other 1st rounder named Robby Palmer. He was a 99 overall by 2012. I wish I would have played online, though.. I never really did, because I have getting owned by 10-year-olds who obnoxiously yell “Yeh bitch I the fa reels yo holmes. I just pwned ya ass, feel? I’s da best Maden playa in dis hizzle, ya dig?” lol

you lose in Madden?

I have never ever lost a game in Madden and always win the Super Bowl.

Just had my offseason and had 3 draft picks drafted a RT, ROLB, CB. All as rookies are overall 82,80, 83 respectively. (had 2 #1’s and a 3rd) And my team kicks booty

Who was Shanny Being Shanny in the MHR keeper league on Fleaflicker

I lost to him in the championship…. His team was legit….He’s either a genius drafter or the luckiest man alive…

Yes, I'm a Diamondback and Suns fan. So you may be wondering, "Why does this fool like the Broncos so much?"

A: The Cardinals are too hard of a pill to swallow. Oh yeah and that Elway dude....
