I like this...3-4 here we come!!!
if we are going to blow up the D lets go the whole hog.
he is an experienced and aggressive DC who will bring in the 3-4 system. That fits our BEST players. We just need a good NT.
Very interesting times!
Those that cant coach, compete!

Why are we so high on Capers?
Wasn’t he the guy in Houston that Kubs replaced as HC?

He also coached Carolina to a 12-4 season in their second year
had ups and downs as a HC but is an excellent DC.

my only concern
is 3rd dc in in as many seasons.
although they werent getting anywhere with the current set. in fact, they were getting worse, by all standards. so maybe this is ok. hey. they cant get much worse, right?

I see what you are saying
and I am with you on that…….3 DCs in 3 seasons isn’t progressing. Hopefully with a new DC in town he, McDaniels and the rest of the staff can get things in order so we can have some consistency on that side of the ball.

Mike Nolan
Adam Schefter is reporting on nfl.com that the new DC is going to be Mike Nolan. Nothing is for sure yet.

That would be AWESOME!!!
Here’s the link in case no one believes him. I would love Nolan’s suits on our team, but I don’t know anything about him other than that he is a very well-dressed man on the sidelines. What does he run? What is his track record? Man this is exciting. I can’t get to sleep. Maybe I shouldn’t have drank those 5 Red Bulls. I’m so excited I could pee!

I can deal with bears....sharks on the other hand.......of course, I am not talking about if I were menstrual(I’m a guy so that isn’t it), but yeah. I can deal with bears if my arm or something was bleedin’, but sharks? I’ll pass on those. The worst feeling in the world is to be out in the surf and feel something very large brush up against your leg as you were alone waiting for your next wave. I don’t think I’ve gone out past waist deep in the ocean since. lol It was probably just a damn dolphin or something, but yeah. Screw sharks and the evolutionary train they rode in on!

I would love this move...
Since Nolan taking over for the sorry 49ers team, he has literally rebuilt that Defense from scratch and made them very competetive… I would love this move very much. Better than Capers…

Btw - 49ers were a 4-3 team during his tenure with them...

He has run both a 4-3 and a 3-4.
So he has adaptability. It will be interesting to see if we give him full control over the defense to rebuild it himself.

Nfl.com article updated with Broncos source confirning Nolan :)
McDaniels is the Broncos’ man
Posted: News | NFL.com Staff | Tags: Adam Schefter, Denver Broncos, Josh McDaniels
The Denver Broncos have hired New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels as their head coach, reports NFL Network’s Adam Schefter.
McDaniels (born April 22, 1976) was 32 years, 8 months and 20 days old on Sunday. That would make him the fifth-youngest head coach in league history, according to a list on the Pro Football Hall of Fame Web site.
On Thursday night, Broncos chief operating officer Joe Ellis spent over four hours in Massachusetts conducting a second interview with McDaniels.
The Broncos interviewed Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier and Buccaneers defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, among others, for the job, which became available Dec. 30 when Mike Shanahan was fired after 14 seasons on the job.
McDaniels started to earn recognition after leading the Patriots’ offense and QB Tom Brady to great success. This season, McDaniels lost Brady in the season opener but still managed to help New England go 11-5 with backup QB Matt Cassel at the controls.
McDaniels’ most significant hire will be his defensive coordinator. And Denver’s new defensive coordinator is expected to be former 49ers head coach Mike Nolan, a Broncos source confirmed Sunday night.

Does he DC from the box or the sidelines?
I like ‘sidelines coaches’ best.

I've heard McDermont from Philly
McDaniels was the best option for this team. You CAN NOT overfocus on the defense and possibley have Jeremy Bates not progress with Cutler. McDaniels will watch over both sides of the ball, especially the O, while letting a defensive guy handle the D along with an intelligent GM.

because there are so many rumors, I wonder
if we are thinking of Nolan or Capers as Asst. HC/Def and McDermott as DC?
by isiddiqi on Jan 11, 2009 11:16 PM MST up reply actions 0 recs
or Nolan Asst. HC and Caper or McDermott as DC...
I hope we do hire Nolan, I have full confidence in his abilities, I saw a bad 49er D evolve before my eyes. He is also very good with finding the right talent on the D side. His doom came due to his bad #1 QB pick of Alex Smith and Offensive coordinators wows

so we're moving to a 3-4?
That’s what Capers and Nolan have in common.
Not a huge fan, but it would fit what we have (speed) and what we can draft (NT). Guess that means we’d take B.J. Rahi or Ndamukong Suh.

3-4?
If we move to a 3-4, we don’t need a huge overhaul. The LB core is pretty good (get rid of Nate, Niko and maybe Boss) Probably need a #1 or #2 pick there. I am guessing that Powell will be looked at for NT and that one may be acquired by FA/trade. Several people will be retained on the DL. We are not that far away with additions of 2 on the DL, 1 LB and 1 safety.
