Casey Wiegmann Named To Pro Bowl

I know this was posted in the FanPosts(thank you) but I always like to provide the official announcement as well --

Denver Broncos center Casey Wiegmann has been named to the American Football Conference roster for the annual AFC-NFC Pro Bowl, the National Football League announced Tuesday. The game will be played on Sunday, Feb. 8, at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu at 2:30 p.m. MST and will be televised by NBC.

Wiegmann, who initially was selected as a first alternate to the AFC Pro Bowl squad, centered a line that established a team record by allowing only 12 sacks that tied for the fewest in the league in 2008. The Broncos posted the best sack percentage per pass play in the league in 2008, allowing 1.9 sacks per pass play (12:632).

The 13-year veteran, who started all 16 games for the Broncos after joining the team as a free agent during the offseason, extended his streak of games started (127) and consecutive offensive snaps (8,046), through the conclusion of the 2008 season. His 127 consecutive games started are the most among league centers.

Wiegmann, 35, anchored an offense that ranked second in the league averaging 395.8 yards per game while totaling the second-most yards (6,333) in team history. He helped the Broncos rank third in the league averaging 4.8 yards per carry in 2008. He also blocked for quarterback Jay Cutler who registered a franchise-record 4,526 passing yards in 2008.

Wiegmann, who will be making his first trip to the Pro Bowl, joins Cutler and wide receiver Brandon Marshall as the team's Pro Bowl selections. Their selections were based on an equally weighted vote of NFL coaches, players and fans. Their selections mark the 28th consecutive season that the Broncos will have at least one representative in the contest and increase Denver's all-time Pro Bowl totals to 57 players who have received 143 individual nominations.

Congrat to Casey.

I am glad someone from our offensive line made it there. He totally deserves it.

You said he was initially selected as a first alternate. Does that mean someone isn’t going for him to be there? Either way I am glad he will be representing the Broncos. I would love to see him give some shoutouts to the other guys on the line. Let everybody know about the rest.

For all the abortive FA moves

This one really worked out. Casey was probably more important to our young O-line than we may ever know.

Is that 1.9 sacks per 100 pass plays?

I think it's the second or third time I've seen that figure

If Cutler had really been sacked almost twice per play he’d be on life support.

Congrats Casey!

And please come back next year. I think he actually almost made me forget about Nails for part of the year..

"WTF" By Zappa. 1/5/09

I can deal with bears....sharks on the other hand.......of course, I am not talking about if I were menstrual(I’m a guy so that isn’t it), but yeah. I can deal with bears if my arm or something was bleedin’, but sharks? I’ll pass on those. The worst feeling in the world is to be out in the surf and feel something very large brush up against your leg as you were alone waiting for your next wave. I don’t think I’ve gone out past waist deep in the ocean since. lol It was probably just a damn dolphin or something, but yeah. Screw sharks and the evolutionary train they rode in on!

I Knew It!

For some reason I just Knew Casey Wiegmann was going to make it! Everybody’s been so enamoured with Ryan Clady (and why would’nt you be) that some how He was forgotten. I know the whole O Line knew he deserved it above the rest, and as an old O Lineman myself I watch these guy’s closely He truely is a stand out at the center position. Obviously He could never replace what Nails brought to this TEAM but He is All Pro in my book! Congratulations Sr. and please please please come back, you got a few more All Pro years left in ya. Thank You Casey Wiegmann.
