Let the Good Times Roll!

Pat Bowlen is on fire right now.  He's "ecstatic" with the hiring of Head Coach, Josh McDaniels and Defensive Coordinator, Mike Nolan.  And I for one don't blame him.  He's been on quite the emotional roller coaster having made a difficult decision to fire legendary coach and friend, Mike Shanahan and then turnaround and hire a new HC and DC.  You have to imagine he wants to retreat to the confines of his office and let the kids run the store while he watches from on high.  Well, Mr Bowlen, not so fast!  There's one more piece of buisness you need to attend to, one more thing for the Broncos organization to consider and embrace over the off-season -- new defensive players uniforms!

Our Uniforms are So 90's

As you can see in Exhibit A, the Broncos uniform has evolved considerably from 1960 to the present.  I for one appreciated the bold uniform change in 1997 and firmly believe it allowed us to win back-to-back Super Bowls (dodges rock thrown by TD. Romo spits in my face).

However, the time has come once again to "upgrade" our uniforms to something that captures the essence of this decade (think Apple, economic depression, Call of Duty), the change in leadership (Shanny - tired, McD - wired) and the need to return to our roots (too much blue, need more orange).  To the last point, I'm seriously not kidding.  How am I supposed to teach my children about the Orange Crush with little to no orange?  My kids hate being lied to, Pat.  They think daddy is full of it because of your current uniforms.  It's time for a change, stat!

More Orange & Broncos!

I think returning to an orange uniform is the easy part.  The hard part is getting more Broncos into the uniform.  Yes, the Broncos stencil-like logo is fine, if you're into to decapitated horse heads.  But I for one want to see the bucking bronco in all its glory! Again, remember the kids, Pat.  Most can't do simple addition and subtraction without a calculator and you expect them to know what a bronco is?  I try to tell them it's a horse that acts like Nate Webster when he loses his helmet, but they still don't seem to quite get it. Bottom line, we need more bronco!!!!   Feel free to refer Exhibit B, the "liger", or C, Ride Big Bronco, for inspiration.

via web.njit.edu

Aside from reminding you about the kids, Pat, that's about all I have to say on the matter.  I've included a MHR poll to help you get a feel for how devoted Broncos fans feel about the matter.  I think you'll find that winning another Super Bowl takes more than talented players and coaches, it takes wicked ass cool uniforms.  If you want to get Mile High rocking again, then get our boys some new battle fatigues!

For a serious walk down Broncos uniform memory lane, check out this site.

Who is Todd McFarlane?

Is he a famous football uniform designer or something?

Sort of like Shakespeare… I think they’re cool in theory, but I don’t know much about them.

As an interesting aside

This statute actually killed the sculpter, a part fell on him and killed him, his family had to finish it and ship it to Denver, now there is some interesting mojo.

Am I to understand that this thing actually exists?

I don’t want to rush to judgment here, but it seems somehow….grotesque…

It is almost mocking of the broncos. Am I the only one who thinks that?

Yup

It is right outside of the Denver International Airport.

Interesting story – the artist that sculpted it was crushed by it on accident. His family agreed that it should still be put up as a tribute of the artist’s love for Denver, etc.

I don’t want breakaway speed. I want break-some-poor-fool-as-I-bowl-you-over power getting 6 yards off a play that should have been stopped for 2 at most.

That and he had been paid by Denver for it so his family would to have come up with 250,000 if they hadn't delivered it.

Especially appropriate with Nolan returning to coach the defense.

Bronco on front of jersey

I had a Bronco T shirt a few years ago that I loved – and wore out. It was blue with a white/orange bronco across the front. Maybe something like this would work with the colors reversed using the orange jersey.

I really liked the uniforms we have

when they were introduced before the 1997 season. I also on the other hand loved the orange uniforms with the big D on the helmet because that Denver. When you think of orange you would think of the Broncos and nobody else.

I would like to stay with our current uniforms. I am glad they brought back the alternates this year and hopefully they will use them twice a year from now on. On the other hand if they did have a uniform change I would want to go back to the old school ones we had before our current ones.

Are you out of your mind?

Orange? Whoever won in Orange, The Bucs (Bucaneer red=))had the worst team in football (except Detroit, once agains Lions mess something up) with those ugly orange uniforms. Broncos never won the SB with Orange. The Browns, and Bengals are annually sucky. At least the current blue has some swagger apeal. Look at the Steelers and Ravens; sure their defenses are naturally tough but the uniforms add to the dimension. Outside the realm of Football no one ever won anything with Orange, think Bullets, or the Dutch National Team, University of Virginia, Charlotte Bobcats….

Only very few teams buck the trend and they use a splash of orange…like The U, The Bears, The Suns, and yes the Denver Broncos. Don’t kill the team!

by Reasonable voice on Jan 14, 2009 10:02 AM MST reply actions   0 recs

The Ravens wear purple...

Purple is definitely not a tougher color than orange.

And that defense would do just fine wearing orange, trust me…

Texas Longhorns (4 National titles) and the Syracuse Orangemen (1 National Championship, 4 Final Four appearances)… And that still doesn’t adress the need for more bronco!

by bcfunk on Jan 14, 2009 10:37 AM MST up reply actions   0 recs

More craziness...

First the Ravens prurple is more black then purple, Texas Longhorn orange is like brown or burnt orange…you have me with Syracuse…but that’s one team, of course you do have the Tennessee Volunteers Women Basketball Team you can fall back on…and Princeton Chess….I suppose the Tide Car in Nascar….As far the Bronco…Anything but the ghost horse of old…Big D needs a comeback

by Reasonable voice on Jan 14, 2009 10:49 AM MST up reply actions   0 recs

I would also say...

that this is quite orange…

and this is a bit more than a “splash” of orange…

When the orange appearances for 2008 were announced

a great discussion ensued on how different oranges could be attractive and still meet marketing criteria for the team.

Colinski got the discussion going when he brought in the big guns, starting with this comment:

Here's a thought.

We all know how Mike Shanahan hated the orange alternates, right? Well, maybe Pat Bowlen likes them enough to make them our primary with Mac Daddy at the reins! I’d like that. But we definitely need a new away jersey. Too much blue… Maybe we could go with an orange stripe? Outlined in blue?

To MS Paint!!!!!!

Or, if we want to go a completely different route, I recommend this template I made for a team a long time ago. Just pretend the black is blue.

"WTF" By Zappa. 1/5/09

I can deal with bears....sharks on the other hand.......of course, I am not talking about if I were menstrual(I’m a guy so that isn’t it), but yeah. I can deal with bears if my arm or something was bleedin’, but sharks? I’ll pass on those. The worst feeling in the world is to be out in the surf and feel something very large brush up against your leg as you were alone waiting for your next wave. I don’t think I’ve gone out past waist deep in the ocean since. lol It was probably just a damn dolphin or something, but yeah. Screw sharks and the evolutionary train they rode in on!

because

for one the NFL needs a season notice. That is due to all of the current uni’s in stock that they sell. Plus Bowlen made the change in 1996 for the 1997 season, I dont see him changing things for a long while. Plus the current uni’s are a better seller than the old orange one. Its all about money no matter what.
Now I would not be surprised if they were changed in the next 10 yrs but I dont see it

yeah, like the whole Ocho Cinco fiasco...

he needs for all his old jerseys to sell before he can “rebrand” himself. But to your point, “why worry about it”, the post was for fun. The team has made and will continue to make some big changes this offseason; I just thought it’d be nice to throw one more “while you’re changing everything, change this” out there for MHR fans to play with… The only thing I worry about with this team is our defense. :)

I love the way the Texans

handle their alternates, with the whole “Battle Red” buildup during the week. It never gets old, just like Orange Sunday would never get old in Denver.

But to do that, the orange has to remain an alternate color…
