DENVER POST
"Obviously we'll have to adjust the personnel some," said Jim Goodman, who runs the Broncos' player personnel department. "(McDaniels) may want to do a hybrid type thing where he goes to a 4-3 some."
It must be downright discouraging and demoralizing for somebody who has served as a defensive coordinator, then head coach, for 14 1/2 seasons — with five different teams — yet reached the playoffs only TWO of those years, won more than 10 games just once, had a losing record in eight seasons (and only four or five victories four times), was fired several times and, in the biggest game all his teams played, saw the defense reduced to ashes (44 points).
Broncos center Casey Wiegmann will admit that even though he has played in the NFL for 13 seasons, he is not exactly a household name, which might have kept him out of the Pro Bowl in previous years.
Broncos coach Josh McDaniels planned to place a call Tuesday to his new quarterback, Jay Cutler. It's not known whether they spoke, because Cutler has been traveling.
Scott O'Brien, the Broncos' special-teams coach the past two seasons, is leaving for New England, where he will be reunited with head coach Bill Belichick, according to an NFL source.
Scott Pioli, who helped build and lead a dynasty in New England, is now in charge of a Kansas City franchise that hasn't won a playoff game in 14 year
ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS
He spent his youth before that at various pro camps, shagging punts with the players and helping out where he could, while his father, Dick, was coach of the San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints.
Josh McDaniels' first full day as Broncos coach consisted mostly of closed doors and the meetings behind them as he moved toward building a coaching staff and evaluating his team's personnel.
You do not fire Batman to hire Robin. The examples of boy wonders in football coaching are impressive, starting with another John Carroll alum - just as is Josh By Gosh McDaniels - a man who actually played in the NFL, Don Shula.
Broncos quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates has been granted permission by the team to talk with the Oakland Raiders about a job on that team's coaching staff.
OTHER
Josh McDaniels will emulate the hoodie and the habits of his mentor, Bill Belichick. The dour personality of the New England coach? Not so much.
The 49-year-old Nolan served as defensive coordinator with the Ravens, Jets, Redskins and Giants before getting his first head coaching job in San Francisco, where he was fired midway through his fourth season last year.
Through the magic of the Internet, I was able to watch a few minutes of the press conference Monday in Denver in which Josh McDaniels was introduced as the new head coach of the Denver Broncos.

Lincicome = FAIL
This is why I love MHR. If all I had were the MSM for my Broncos news and analysis -I would go crazy!
Welcome Aboard, Josh McDaniels!

Bernie Lincicome is the biggest hack sportswriter that’s ever written for the Denver dailies. His writing and analysis are a disgrace.

This is my GAP, there are many like it but this one is mine. Without my GAP I am useless, without me, they will run through my GAP. I will protect my GAP and have my brothers back on his. I will not be moved from my GAP, I am a crazed dog that patrols this area and will defeat all who entire it. I own this GAP, it is mine. I bought it with blood and sweat. I will not be pushed. I know it is like pulling teeth sometimes to get anything positive from them.
Like you, I am glad I have this place. I know we aren’t a good team and we have a ways to go to get better on defense. However, you think this guy would have something good to say. He is writing like we have absolutly no hope.

Quote from that article
"If this is all or in part just to redraw the Broncos organizational chart, so that the owner owns, the general manager manages and the head coach coaches the coaches, then it is a risky move in the name of tidiness.
And the Broncos’ chances of winning are no better for it. The Broncos have slid backward on the improvement curve, the optimism curve and the logical curve, meaning the way back is harder today than it was yesterday."
While I think he’s being overly negative, I can’t help but agree with part of what he’s saying here. If the Broncos had un-seated Shanny as GM and left him as HC, and then given the boot to most of the defensive staff and brought in a better DC, I think they would be in just as good of shape as they are now. Nolan just doesn’t make sense to me…
Note that I don’t read local Denver news very often, and have no prior experience with Lincicome.

On the second part of that quote I agree.
Short term this hiring does little to improve our change of winning…..IN 2009! Though I do have a feeling it will improve our chances in 2010 and beyond. Remember, Shanny went 8-8 a year after Wade Phillips went 7-9.

RMN has some good writer's I think, Lincicome brings the whole publicationd own though.
The DP drives me crazy…I plan to boycott all of them. They write simply to generate outrage. I have a suspicion that they get their Christmas bonuses at the end of the year based on how many comments they get on their stories. And really, if someone agrees with what your saying then many won’t bother commenting. I know I just shake my head in agreement and move on. They write to enrage so people will express their disgust. Therefore it has to be because there is money involved. Lincicome works for RMN because the RMN feels they have to compete on the same level as the DP. I disagree…but I will continue to read certain writers over at the RMN, but the DP can suck it. Ahhh, I feel better now. I always wondered why Guru put the DP at the top of the list…I always thought to myself that that was lame considering the RMN was a better publication than the DP. Now I understand he lists them from suckiest publication first. :P

McDaniels also is pursuing coaching veteran Dom Capers, who, despite having a year remaining on his contract with New England, was not expected to return to the Patriots for the 2009 season.
Philadelphia Eagles secondary coach Sean McDermott also is being considered for a position on McDaniels’ staff. McDermott, who is believed to have a year remaining on his contract, is off limits for interviews because his team still is in the playoffs.
How cool would this be: Nolan, Capers and McDermott all tackling the Broncos defense?

Woody Can't Be Pleased
That fool was calling for Shanahan’s head all year. He said – I paraphrase but those of you who read the dailies remember – that if Shanahan did not win six games this year OR make the playoffs, he should go.
Well of course, there’s Woody leaving himself some leeway. You could win six games and NOT make the playoffs, still meeting Woody’s criteria and keeping your job. As it turns out, Denver won EIGHT games, and missed the playoffs in embarrassing fashion.
Shanahan was fired. Woody got his wish. So, is he happy? Of course not.
Look, I don’t want to be overly cynical about sportswriters. Many of them are ‘hacks’, and many of them know more than most of us ever will if we live to be a hundred. But I can’t help but think that many of the writers in Denver – particularly the ones who have been calling for Shanahan’s ouster – are just so overwhelmed by the almost unimaginable turn of events in this town lately that they’re just spewing the first thing that comes to mind like a broken garden hose.
It isn’t that Woody doesn’t make a point. Some would argue that Mike Nolan, by all accounts a swell guy and a hard worker – earned his reputation more for that than for his success on the field. But the negative, angry way he vents – that’s what bothers me.
Are there things going on with the Broncos now that should concern the Nation? Hell yes. I’m worried, but I also think that there’s a lot of promise here and either way you look at it, like it or not, change has come.
Accept it.
If you’re a fan of the Broncos – and bear in mind it isn’t a sportswriter’s job to be a fan – you are doing yourself and your team a favor by trying to look at the positive side of this. McDaniels is untested in the hot seat but he does come with credibility. Nolan has a spotty record but with the right staff in place, the chemistry of professionals can fill the gaps and make the whole greater than the sum of the parts.
This is just my opinion, but I too come here for the positive tone. There’s nothing wrong with calling a spade a spade but am I the only one who thinks it is way too early to start drawing conclusions about the Broncos just yet?
I am concerned about some things but remain cautiously optimistic. There are more things about the Broncos that needed to change than needed to stay the same and with change comes uncertainty. It’s a little scary but it is also exciting.
For now, I choose to remain positive and let the new regime take a shot at it. Wins and losses will be the only yardstick that matters.
Everyone’s entitled to their opinion but some of the unbridled negativity in the Denver press seems unwarranted to me at this point. For now, I have some reservations, I have some good vibes, but I also have to let the men do their jobs before I pass judgment.
They’re my Broncos, and I’m gonna give em a chance. No matter what Woody Paige says.
Again, JMHO.
