New Special Teams Coach
With Scott O'Brien leaving for the Patriots, we have apparently snagged Mike Priefer, who was the Chiefs special teams coach last year. I don't know much about this guy and went looking for something and here is what I found on the guy, which wasn't much. Didn't look like they had a very good special teams last year due to an inordinately high number of rookies and injuries. I don't know about this hiring, anyone have any thoughts?

I have no thoughts...hard to have any when I don't know what he is planning to do. lol
I just better see Royal back there returning kicks in 2009. :)
This is my GAP, there are many like it but this one is mine. Without my GAP I am useless, without me, they will run through my GAP. I will protect my GAP and have my brothers back on his. I will not be moved from my GAP, I am a crazed dog that patrols this area and will defeat all who entire it. I own this GAP, it is mine. I bought it with blood and sweat. I will not be pushed. I will not be moved. This Sunday I will make a stand and a statement.
The guy flew helicopters...
what else is there to know? If he was willing to fly that death trap, then perhaps he’s crazy enough to coach up our specials. Seriously, though, I think Chef fans hated him. And what’s with our coaching staff looking like GQ poster boys?

I wish Woody Paige was our coach!
Better tell him Colorado is an Air Force state, go Falcons!
If he graduated from the Naval Academy he is at least smart although flying tin cans may not of been the smartest career move.

Yes, he was a USNA graduate...
They are not that dangerous.. I’ll trust your judgment, but I was a leg in the Army and hard wired for the ground in one of these puppies

I wish Woody Paige was our coach!

Big props!
I was fortunate enough to get a defense contractor job working with the Navy on testing Aegis-class DDGs and CGs after I left the Army. Even though I’ll remain a land-lover, I’ve gained an even greater appreciation for my Navy brethren. Air Force just makes me jealous! :) Marines…glad they’re on our side!
I wish Woody Paige was our coach!
i know
A few times when en route to the far east (Phils, Japan, ect.) I had to have layovers on an AFB. OMG those guys live in the lap of luxury for a military installation. Clark AB was by fat the best, but in the Philippines who wants to stay on base?

Before OIF
I was a in Kuwait (as a contractor). We were in a 40-50 foot long tent probably 15 feet wide that was supposed to hold 25 people barracks style but the previous tenants had divided the tent into 6 rooms and a common room that had a couch, mini-fridge, hand made entertainment center at a 27" color TV. I was with a group of Navy Civilians and some reservists and we definitely got a feel for the way the Air Force does things.

I can deal with bears....sharks on the other hand.......of course, I am not talking about if I were menstrual(I’m a guy so that isn’t it), but yeah. I can deal with bears if my arm or something was bleedin’, but sharks? I’ll pass on those. The worst feeling in the world is to be out in the surf and feel something very large brush up against your leg as you were alone waiting for your next wave. I don’t think I’ve gone out past waist deep in the ocean since. lol It was probably just a damn dolphin or something, but yeah. Screw sharks and the evolutionary train they rode in on!

Maybe we should make an MHR blogger calendar. LOL!

Hopefully they won't be like the
official 2009 Players calendar that included such workhorses of 2008 as Travis Henry (January) and John Lynch (December)!

We made some strides on ST last year
but we still have a looong way to go.
It all starts in the trenches HT 11/11/08
KC's coverage units
were statistically better than the Broncos, mostly gave up fewer big returns. But their return teams actually weren’t as good as ours.
When was the last time you waited for US to return a kick with anticipation that something good was going to happen?
so...
we’re looking at a newly appointed gm, new hc, dc, st, likely oc, and probably more assistants i would imagine. anyone still think we are keeping the offensive system intact, at all? if you saw mac’s press conference, this is going to be his offense, and his team. we’re starting over, again. this is what is called “blowing it up”. the past is gone…
taste my blintzkrieg!
2009-year of the defense.
The interesting thing is....
that we’re not hearing many rumours about potential offensive staff. I’m not so sure he won’t stick with at least Dennison and Turner as long as they decide to stick around.
by SlowWhiteGuy on Jan 14, 2009 6:01 PM MST up reply actions
So far on the offensive side
They have made an offer to Turner and had an interview with Dennison. It looks like they may keep both of them and the WR coach…unless they turn down the offers.
Turner to me is the biggest keeper. Dennison 2nd. I want them both to stick around for sure.
I don’t want breakaway speed. I want break-some-poor-fool-as-I-bowl-you-over power getting 6 yards off a play that should have been stopped for 2 at most.
Dennison & Turner
the keys to Denver’s running game! I hope McHoodie wants to marry our running game with NE’s passing game. Imagine Brady and company with Denver’s running game in 2007. I can see us using the ZB/1-cut running game, Marshall like MOss and Royal like Welker. It’s almost scary to think of. There must be DC’s around the league having nightmares already.

I have a fanshot up over at Arrowhead Pride
asking about this guy… Chris hasn’t weighed in, but primetime07 was there and he didn’t refute anything the rest of the guys were saying, but it sounds like this is a VERY risky move…

At first I thought it was risky too,
but after some reflection I don’t know that it is. I think much of ST play is the tone the HC sets. Does the HC communicate to the team that STs are an integral part of the game, or that they are an after thought?
I think Shanny treated STs (and defense) like they weren’t as important as his precious offense. That attitude carries over to the player’s performance on the field.
If McDaniels wants to set a new tone for the team regarding STs and wants to clearly communicate that to everyone what better way to do it. By letting O’Brien go (to the Pats???) and bringing in his own guy he sends a message that last year’s ST performance won’t do. Let’s hope he continues emphasize ST. I remember whne Chuck Noll’s Seahawks routinely lead the NFL in special teams. Noll said STs were 1/3 of all plays so he devoted 1/3 of every practice to Sts.

I would say
that I hope you were right, but that hope would be a luxury…
You HAVE to be right!!!
