Elway, Bleacher Report, and Ronnie Lott
Recently, I read something very interesting. I don't know how many of you are familiar with Bleacher Report, but someone recently wrote a column entitled Ultimate Leaders: The ten greatest QB's in NFL history. Guess where he had Elway rated? 10th. He had the "almighty" Joe Montana 1 and Brady 2. Here is the link:
I argued with the guy, but he still doesn't see Elway as better than 10th. He basically blames him for their SB losses the Broncos had in the 80's.
Also, I was in the SI Vault, and I was looking at the Sept 3, 1984 issue(with Joe Theismann on the cover with a piece of tape on his mouth). I went back to the Extra Points part of the NFL section on Page 46, and it was ripping on Dan Reeves' offense. Eason Ramson, a former 49er TE who was traded to Denver that year, said to his old teammates that Dan's offense was "too confusing. Also, here is the one that really got me. Ronnie Lott said that "if Elway played in our system, he would be one of the leaders in passing". That pretty much verifies what we have been saying about Elway all along, despite the protestations of chuckleheads above.

The guy who
wrote this has no idea what he is talking about. Elway has to be at least top 4 of all time and should be ahead of most of the QB. The only one i would consider better is Montana.

Elway
had to play, for most of his Denver days, behind a pi$$-poor offensive line, with mediocre running backs. The year the Broncos played the Niners in the SB, Elway had 60-some sacks compared to Montana’s 8. And that was when Elway could still run like a deer. How many sacks did Elway escape that year? Montana was SURROUNDED by great teammates, both on offense and defense. It’s scary to imagine what John could have done with those Niner teammates! I’ll take Elway anyday.

Thanks to Mike Shanahan, a great coach who will be dearly missed. But...
Let's all get on the Mac Daddy Express!
Hillis for starter next year. He wears special thigh pads so his solid brass balls don't give him repeated thigh contusions.

medicore is an understatement...
Elway worked miracles with those teams.
I wish Woody Paige was our coach!

+10000000~
Thay guy doesn’t know his arse from a hole in the ground.
I don’t want breakaway speed. I want break-some-poor-fool-as-I-bowl-you-over power getting 6 yards off a play that should have been stopped for 2 at most.

Sorry but I rate Unitis 1, and Elway 2
To me Montana benefited from the players he had around him more than any other QB, if you got Roger Craig, Rice, Clark, Rathman, Taylor, Jones, and the likes it makes you look great. I only put Unitis ahead of Elway because he called his own plays.
